These pieces were written to aquaint the beginner- student of the gui-tar with the flrgt position only, and deal with 3 major keys and theirrelative minor modes. The ditficulties they present form the basis ofall-round guitar technique, namely accurate placement of left-hand fin-gers, independence of left-hand fingers, ability to play in time and tem-po, and co-ordination between both hands. The author hopes that theymay be more than just various combinations to be memorised. Theyshould become pieces of music, which, though simple, provide stimula-tion and satisfaction lor the young player.
