SCOTTSDALE, AZ - The JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa unveiled its long anticipated Ambiente golf course at Camelback Golf Club. Spanish for the word “environment,” Ambiente, which is designed with a detailed eco-friendly focus, is the first new golf course development project in the Phoenix-Scottsdale and Paradise Valley areas in over five years, and one of a select group of new courses to be built nationwide.

The completion of the $10 million Ambiente golf course culminates a seven-year, $70 million Marriott renewal project at Camelback Inn, designed to blend reverence for the past with relevance for the future. From preserving the resort’s 1930s adobe brick to the stylish renovation of the

Inn’s 453 casita-style guestrooms, and from a new 20,000 square-foot, hi-tech grand ballroom to the debut of BLT Steak, Laurent Tourondel’s modern American steakhouse, the renewal project involved virtually every aspect of the historic resort. Today the new-look 125-acre Camelback Inn, set on its Sonoran Desert surroundings in Paradise Valley, strikes the perfect balance between showcasing the best of the resort’s storied past, while setting a visionary course for the future.

“We are very proud to unveil Ambiente and add it to the vast array of recreation amenities available to our guests at Camelback Inn, while providing an amazing new course for both local golfers and

golfing travelers visiting the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley region,” said Jim Rose, General Manager, JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. “For Camelback Inn, this is more than just a new golf course, as it represents the final phase in Marriott’s unmatched commitment to reinvigorate this acclaimed resort for the future, while preserving its history and the unique Southwestern style that has made it a favorite for generations of travelers.”

Adding to the lore of Camelback, Ambiente is already gaining golf industry-wide acclaim for its distinct design, the challenging, yet enjoyable, experience it presents to golfers of all levels and the overall aesthetic and environmental

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • CHIPSHOTSqualities it brings to the Phoenix-Scottsdale area. In fact, Ambiente, which was designed by notable golf architect Jason Straka on behalf of Hurdzan/Fry Environmental Golf Design, has already been recognized by the American Society of Golf Course Architects in its 2013 Design Excellence Recognition Program. Ambiente is one of 12 courses to be honored for addressing unique design challenges that lead to improved social, economic and environmental benefits.

The launch of Ambiente, in concert with the popular Padre golf course, now establishes a one-of-a-kind 36-hole Southwest golf destination, for both leisure and group golfers, within the enchanting resort atmosphere of the Camelback Inn. The new course, which replaces the Indian Bend golf course at Camelback Golf Club, creates a uniquely different golf experience than the Padre course, which is regarded as a great parkland style golf course that, while scenic, boasts numerous water hazards, towering Pine and Eucalyptus trees and 18 golf holes that will test every golfer’s ability. In contrast, Ambiente presents a distinct challenge where accuracy and a good strategy command the day, as every hole will force even the best players to focus on each and every shot.

Ambiente, a course where golfers will find the eye-catching elevation changes, as well as rolling fairways with significant drops throughout the course, among its most striking features, offers a par-72 layout that measures 7,225 yards from the back tees and 5,538 yards from the forward tees. Additionally, the course features five sets of tee boxes, designed to positively impact the golf industry’s “grow the game” effort, by providing varying distances for golfers of all handicap levels. In fact, the forward tees have no forced carries and offer easier approach angles, which create opportunities for aspiring golfers to enjoy regardless of their playing ability.

One of the most golfer-friendly features of Ambiente is the creatively shaped greens. The overall green acreage, which stands at about 122,000 square feet, offers great movement, character and feel. Visually intimidating, the putting surfaces are very fair, but will challenge golfers to bring their best putting stroke every time out.

Adds Rose, “While Ambiente is sure to distract golfers with its natural beauty and breathtaking views of Mummy Mountain, Camelback, the McDowells and the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, our golfing guests will find a friendly test of skill and shotmaking that will redefine the golf experience at a resort long known for its exceptional service, palette pleasing food, luxurious

accommodations and spirit of adventure.”Environment is a significant part of

the Ambiente golf course story, which centers on water conservation, wildlife habitat creation and an overall 50 percent decrease in pesticide/fertilizer and fossil fuel use, as compared to the former Indian Bend golf course. The layout of the course is highlighted by 100 acres of new native desert and grass areas that features a mix of acacias, jojobas and sagebrush among many other desert shrubs and grasses, as well as an eye-catching collection of both summer and winter desert wildflower mixes.

These native areas, which will require one-third less water than Indian Bend, are complemented by 85 acres of hybrid turf grass that also requires significantly less water, while reducing the daily labor and machinery intensive maintenance of traditional Bermuda grass. Overall, the combined native areas give the course a more Northern desert look compared to the area’s traditional Sonoran Desert layouts, making it a must-play Southwestern layout in Paradise Valley.

From an Audubon standpoint, Ambiente is designed to cater to wildlife, which is part of Marriott’s overall role as a steward of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary program. By removing over 100 acres of turf grass and replacing it with native desert and grass areas, bird inventory, as well as the local mammal population, will increase substantially.

Adds Rose, “Environmental consciousness has long been a hallmark at Marriott, and we believe that Ambiente is a perfect example of the company’s commitment to protecting wildlife and natural resources, while continually serving as a leader in eco-friendly business practices. Upon completion, we expect golfers in the community will find that Ambiente stands alongside the premier golf landscapes in the Phoenix-Scottsdale market, while we expect the course to redefine the destination golf experience for group and leisure customers visiting the Camelback Inn.”

About Camelback Inn Set on 125 acres of Sonoran Desert

landscape in affluent Paradise Valley, Camelback Inn embodies the spirit of the Southwest with its peaceful desert setting, private grounds for hiking and meditation and indigenous plant life.

The resort features 453 oversized guest rooms and suites, each with a private entrance and garden patio or balcony. The resort also offers 36 holes of championship golf, six tennis courts, the 32,000-square-foot Spa at Camelback Inn, two swimming pools, and seven restaurants and lounges. www.camelbackinn.com

PLANNING UNDERWAY FOR OCEANFRONT GOLF PROJECT ALONG SPECTACULAR STRETCH OF SOUTHERN OREGON COAST

Port Orford, Oregon — The modern legend of golf on the Southern Oregon coast adds an exciting chapter with the announcement of a new project, Pacific Gales — 18 holes set to emerge from some of the world’s greatest seaside landscape, with one of the game’s most accomplished development teams behind it. Course construction is expected to begin in summer 2014.

Located on a portion of privately owned Knapp Ranch in Curry County, between iconic Cape Blanco and the town of Port Orford, Pacific Gales will add a spectacular new dimension to this remote but world renowned stretch of North American golfing coastline. Several holes will sit directly on the ocean, including both the 9th and 18th, which will share a common cliffside green — unique among American seaside courses.

“I’ve been in the business for 30 years, and you know a great site when you’re on it,” says Jim Haley, managing partner of Elk River Property Development, LLC, who first ventured to the Oregon Coast as a member of the construction team for the original Bandon Dunes course. “This is a great site. You don’t get them very often.”

With a huge natural sand dune running the length of the property, rocky cliffs that recall Pebble Beach or Cypress Point, corridors through twisted, wind-whipped pines and gorse-filled ravines that resemble those at Pine Valley, Pacific Gales promises to bring every element of classic seaside golf into play, augmented by views unmatched anywhere else on the West Coast, including the famed Cape Blanco lighthouse on the westernmost point in Oregon.

Haley began the long journey to making Pacific Gales a reality in the late 1990s, while working as Bandon Dunes architect David McLay Kidd’s lead shaper — a relationship

that continued through some of Kidd’s most well-regarded projects around the globe via Haley’s construction company, Highland Golf Services. In fact, Haley’s career has included work on everything from Rees Jones’ renovations at Atlanta Athletic Club and Duke University Golf Club to more recent McLay Kidd efforts at Tournament Players Club Stonebrae in the San Francisco Bay Area, Huntsman Springs in Idaho, Nanea on the Big Island of Hawaii and Queenwood Golf Club in Surrey, England, home to more than a few European Tour stars.

“One of the owners of Knapp Ranch, Jeff Knapp, had worked with me,” he says. “He invited me down for a crab feed when Mike Keiser was building Bandon Dunes.” That’s when Haley first caught site of the family’s incredible 1,100-acre stretch of oceanfront property.

In 2010 Haley and his business partner, Jay Kenyon, completed a lease agreement with the Knapp family to develop 330 acres along the ocean. They brought on Troy Russell, a native to the area who played pivotal roles in the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort’s early success during his 10 years there, to be project manager. Russell saw the land’s potential as a golf site right away. “It’s more than just the oceanfront property — you’ve got these other unique attributes, the lighthouse, Cape Blanco, the Port Orford reef just offshore and a view of the Coast Range,” he says. “Plus, you’re looking down onto the Elk River, one of the most beautiful on the Wild Rivers Coast. It’s a cut above, a remarkable piece of property.”

The next step was finding the right designer for the new project, which led to Dave Esler, who had built his reputation bringing restoration work to life with a light touch and classic flair in the Chicago area. Esler also created the layout at highly acclaimed Black Sheep Golf Club — ranked by Golfweek as one of America’s Best 100 Courses.

“He called me to look at a remodel project,

a Donald Ross course on the South Side of Chicago that he was shaping,” Haley recalls. “He did a masterful restoration; he didn’t impose his will on the site. And that’s exactly what we needed for a piece of land like Pacific Gales.”

Esler also had a Bandon Dunes connection — he was one of many finalists for the job that eventually went to Kidd — so he jumped at the chance to create what will undoubtedly be his finest design achievement to date.

“It’s a great opportunity, and frankly one that most architects would only dream of coming across once in a lifetime,” Esler says. “We feel obligated to do something extraordinary because the site deserves it. That’s our goal — to put the best possible golf course we can on that site. It may even become the best one in the neighborhood — it’s clearly something special.”

That “something special” is a journey rife with drama and a sense of hole-to-hole anticipation that has the potential to rival anything in American golf.

“We want the routing to be a spectacular walk, with or without clubs,” Esler says. “On the first green at Pacific Gales, you’ll be staring at the edge of two worlds, looking into infinity. It’s drop-dead spectacular. The routing is intentionally choreographed, constructed as theater really. We set the hook early, move away from the edge, build the drama again with long views, intimate peeks and anticipation of what’s ahead — the spectacular finish. We’d be pretty fortunate to be able to do that with one of the nines, but after a good bit of work, we’ve found a routing that provides that drama on each of the nines.”

Fundraising for the project is well under way although investment opportunities remain available. For additional news, photos and a video preview of Pacific Gales and to register for e-mail and social media construction updates and special offers, please visit www.pacificgales.com.

The golf travel business, like any other tourism-driven industry, has its peak and off-peak times. Nestled in between the two, however, is a sweet spot known as the “shoulder season” that

can yield big-time value and even better playing conditions. From the southeast to the southwest, the options are surprisingly robust.

“Highs in Dallas in November and early December can reach into the 70s,” says Mike McCabe, General Manager at Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas. “Temperatures can also be in the 50s, so golfers can have an enjoyable round but need to plan accordingly.”

DallasWith easy access through two airports – Love Field and DFW In-

ternational – the “Metroplex” is easy to get in and out of. Big “D” is all about business, so golfers in search of a traditional golf resort experi-ence have limited options. Those who appreciate high quality daily fee and semi-private courses, however, will find an embarrassment of riches spread throughout the region.

Old American opened in 2010 to acclaim from Golfweek, Golf Di-gest and LINKS, and is located about 40 minutes north of DFW on sce-nic Lake Lewisville. The muscular layout was designed by Oklahoma-based Tripp Davis and PGA TOUR / Ryder Cup star Justin Leonard. Its architectural elements were inspired by the “Golden Age” of golf course architecture, from 1910 to 1937.

“This is a purists’ golf course, and appeals to players who appreciate

thinking their way around a layout,” adds McCabe. “That stated if you play it from the tips you are going to need to bring some power as well.”

So “pure” is Old American that homes only brush up against one hole, as the balance of the layout bobs and weaves along a stunning pen-insula jutting into the lake. Owner Jack Matthews is driving home the “Classic American” theme with unique additions like a turn of the cen-tury Red River railroad bridge connecting the second and third holes, and a restored Midwestern farm barn serving as the cart storage area.

For traveling golfers, Old American teams with the NYLO family of boutique hotels, the closest of which is the Plano location near vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment at the Shops at Legacy. Packages start at just $213 per player, per night. Those looking to double down for two rounds in two days can tee it up across from Old American at The Tribute Golf Links, another Davis design ranked among the top courses in the area.

Hilton Head IslandWith its golden beachfronts, lush fairways and good old fashioned

Southern hospitality, Hilton Head Island is the ideal destination for golf enthusiasts seeking to play year-round. Hilton Head winter days can often feel like spring with average temperatures of 60 degrees and highs in the 70s. Crowds are also fewer with plenty of tee-time availability, and with the not-too-hot, not-too-cold temperatures, vacationers can still spend plenty of time outdoors.

an array of activities for all generations in the family to enjoy including golf, dining, shopping, fishing, sailing, wildlife refuges, hiking and parasailing.

The destination offers shoulder season guests an inviting, warm, and laid-back atmosphere. Gulf Shores has nine signature golf courses, all within a 45 minute drive from each other and is home to one of the world’s largest charter fishing boat fleets and with a dozen marinas and hundreds of vessels.

Golfers can pick-up a two-bedroom Golf Villa for $66.74 per per-son, per night based on quad occupancy (includes taxes and fees, three rounds of golf) with one king bed, two twin beds and a sleeper sofa. An Unlimited Golf option is available at a nominal fee with any package. For a customized quote for groups of all sizes call 888.815.1902.

Northwest FloridaAs south Florida moves into its peak tourism season, the state’s

“Emerald Coast” shifts into its quiet time. Highs along the Northwest coast still reach into the 60s and 70s, and dry, sunny days are the norm. At the heart of it all is Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, featuring four courses and numerous accommodation options.

Trophy hunters are attracted to the resort’s two marquee tracks, The Raven and Burnt Pines, while the Baytowne and Links courses offer playability, forgiveness and tremendous value. Golfers looking for the biggest shoulder season bang for the buck can book the “Classic Golf Package,” starting at $110 per golfer, per night including two rounds on Links and Baytowne.

Couples or guests who crave a bit more luxury than a villa or condo offers can bed down at the completely remodeled and refreshed LeCiel boutique hotel or the Grand Sandestin. Getting to Sandestin has nev-er been easier, with Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) and Northwest Florida Regional Airport (VPS) offering direct flights from a dozen cities.

WAILEA, Maui, Hawaii – Rusty Hathaway, head profes-sional at Wailea Gold Golf Club, will never forget the day he had to ask Arnold Palmer to change from Bermuda

shorts to dress slacks.

Needless to say the average day on the beautiful Hawaiian golf island of Maui, is not that stressful.

“A representative of the PGA Tour approached me and asked me to talk to Mr. Palmer,” Hathaway remembered. “Man, why me immediately came into my mind, but Mr. Palmer couldn’t have been nicer when I asked him to change.”

Palmer was in Maui for the Wendy’s Champions Skins Game, which was hosted by Wailea Gold from 2001-2007.

Today’s travel golfers are encouraged to wear their shorts while playing at Wailea’s three courses, Ka’anapali’s two, Kapalua’s two and even the private King Kamahameha Golf Club that has a mem-ber for a day deal.

If your bucket list includes golf in Hawaii make it Maui. The

people can’t be more friendly, the weather is perfect, the beaches warm and inviting, the food choices are excellent and the golf cours-es are the best in the state.

Wailea Golf Club (http://www.waileagolf.com)The Pacific panorama from Wailea Gold’s clubhouse, host for

many weddings, is fixating. The partially submerged Molokini Cra-ter is visable amongst a sea of blue. Lush gardens cozy up to the putting green and 18th green of the Gold Course, coconut palms wave in the breezes, and Lana’i can be seen in the distance to the right. Look the opposite direction and gaze upon Mount Haleakala, the 10,023-foot dormant volcano.

This ritzy Wailea area is three times larger than Oahu’s Waikiki, and the Gold, Emerald and Old Blue courses are superb.

Wailea Gold (7,078, par 72), designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is the most challenging of Wailea’s trio, and has been honored by all major golf publications. It has also been recognized by the Maui Historical Society for its preservation of prehistoric lava rock walls during construction.

The Emerald (6,825, par 72) is a strategic beauty, and Old Blue (6,765, par 72), a local favorite, was the first Wailea course. Some-time in the near future Old Blue will be changing clubhouses and the routing will be new.

But Wailea is much more than golf – this 1,500-acre resort com-

munity hosts luxury hotels, five crescent-shaped beaches, restau-rants, tennis, and condominium complexes. The Sheraton Wailea Beach Resort is handy to all of Wailea’s golf courses.

Ka’anapali Golf Resort (http://www.kaanapali-golf.com)For the past 47 years the Royal Ka’anapali Course, situated with

views of the Pacific, Lana’i, Moloka’i and the West Maui Mountains, has tested the games best in the Wendy’s Champions Skins Game (2008-2010), hosted Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf, the Canada Cup, LPGA Kemper Open and the Ka’anapali Classic, Senior PGA Tour event. Big Break Ka’anapali (Golf Channel 2008) was also played here.

Ka’anapali Golf Resort earned Golf Digest’s 4 and 1/2 stars, “Best Places to Play” and recently underwent a $13 million renova-tion by Robin Nelson, who designed all new bunkering and resur-faced the greens with Tif Eagle, a Bermuda hybrid.

Sutee Nitakorn, head golf pro, thinks the excellence of the Royal Course comes in its subtleties. “From the tee on the fifth hole, a 474-yard par 4, your first look is kind of benign except for the length. It is a huge, wide fairway, but then you see this fairway bunker out there just in the right spot to catch someone who has pulled it or hit a draw.”

The Ka‘anapali Kai Course, 6,388, par 70, was designed by Ar-thur Jack Snyder and is beginner’s heaven. But the resort has much more – like 30 professional tennis courts and a tennis stadium. And just within site is Ka‘anapali Beach Resort – home to kayaking, snor-

keling, surfing, body boarding, parasailing, diving, beach volleyball and hiking.

Stay at the spectacular Ka’anapali Alii, a private condo com-pound, where my two-bedroom corner condo with full kitchen and washer and dryer had a panorama view of the ocean and the moun-tains in the opposite direction. The Alii has clay courts for the tennis purist, lots of grills to enjoy an evening cook out, enormous pool and spa areas and private beach access. This is the finest place I’ve stayed in Maui.

Kapalua Resort (http://www.kapalua.com)The PGA Tour big boys play here, a serene spot on Maui’s north-

west shore, where towering Cook Island pines line the narrow roads through 23,000 acres where pineapples once grew. Kapalua is the best of ritzy and down-to-earth Maui. An organic pineapple farm is next door, the Ritz-Carlton and Kapalua Villas dazzle you, and the old plantation roadside stop – Honolua Store – dates back to 1929 and reminds you of another era.

The Kapalua Plantation Course (Ben Crenshaw, Bill Coore, 1991), ranked 19th on Golf Magazine’s Top 100 You Can Play list, hosts the first PGA Tour stop of 2014. It is a 7,411-yard, par 73 -- a wild ride off stiff 30 miles per hour trade winds, plummeting gullies, and extremely wide fairways. Fortunately, this trip I got to play the course on an almost windless day. Talk about a fun round of golf.

The Kapalua Bay Course, a 6,600-yard, par 72, designed by the Arnold Palmer team. If you can hold on to your hat, the views at the

fifth, a 205-yard par 3, of Oneloa Bay is stunning. The fourth hole, a 357-yard, par 4, is a fun, ocean-view hole – a challenge just to keep the ball in play from the cross wind. Ask the folks at the Kapalua Golf Academy how to do that. Ben Hongo just won an award as the best teacher in Hawaii.

Make the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua your home while playing golf.

It has 54 acres maintaining the Honokahua Preservation Site that is adjacent to the resort’s beach. There are 463 guest rooms, suites and Club Level accommodations featuring dark wood floors, marble bathrooms, vibrant island-inspired décor and designs. Also check out the six dining experiences, the spa, fitness center, tennis courts, basketball court, swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, sailing, kayak-ing, sport fishing, and whale watching via Ambassadors of the Envi-ronment program.

King Kamehameha Golf Club(http://www.kamehamehagolf.com) You will be blown away by the massive, rose-colored,

74,000-square foot Frank Lloyd Wright clubhouse at King Kame-hameha Golf Club and the golf course (par 72, 7,060 yards), de-signed by Ted Robinson Sr. (updated by Ted Robinson Jr.). It’s the only private 18-hole golf course in Maui, but you can play thanks to its Guest for a Day program.

“The golfer attacks; the designer defends. Such is the adversar-ial relationship that defines the creation of a golf course,” Robinson Sr. once said.

King Kamehameha is a solid challenge with panoramic views, superb conditioning, and zero homes. “Golfers love the views of the south and north shores of Maui,” said Frank Luchowski, head pro-fessional. “We are not oceanside, but we are elevated at 750 feet.”

“No. 18 is my favorite hole,” said Rick Castillo. “It’s a 570-yard

par 5. You are shooting downhill, down wind and can be in position to go for the green in two.” That second shot, however, kicks left quickly where a lake guards the final 160 yards of the hole. The views from behind the lake looking to the clubhouse are camera ready.

The clubhouse design was commissioned by Marilyn Monroe

and husband Arthur Miller. It was never built for the couple, but taking time to explore this architectural treasure is a must. Members here have locker rooms that are pure luxury.

Why come to Maui?

“Although I have enjoyed playing golf on all of Hawaii’s islands, I have always loved my experiences on Maui above all others,” said Allan Long, a former University of Arizona golfer and Director of Event Services-Ice Hall at World Arena in Colorado Springs.

“If I was going to go back to just one island, I would choose Maui hands down because I think it has the total experience. The pace on the island is not as fast as Oahu, and not as slow as some of the other islands, and for me, just completes the ideal golf getaway.”

2014 Ka’anapali Golf Courses Current Programs/PromotionsSEASONAL MULTI-ROUND PACKAGES• Mixed Plate Package – one round on both courses for $289 for Ka’anapali Beach Resort guests • Whale of a Deal Package – 5 rounds on either course for $599 for Ka’anapali Beach Resort guests

All of these packages come with ‘coupons’ for their 2nd, 3rd, etc rounds and those are per person but good for up to one year from date of purchase. Great for guests who visit a few times a year!

FIT CLUBLast spring, we began a FIT CLUB: walking holes #1-6 on the Royal or Kai Course anytime after 4pm. There is a monthly fee of $99 and players check in daily in the golf shop and then walk the course (playing) from 4pm to close. Program has quickly grown to 75 players a month, with an average of 24 players a day out walking.

GOLF MY WAY We are finding different ways for guests to consume golf. Time is the biggest factor in deciding to play or not to play golf while on vacation and therefore we have created a program allowing guests to play 18 holes of golf over 7 days. Trying to change the paradigm of ‘having’ to play 18 or even 9 holes at a time.

KEIKI/KIDS STUFF We added a KEIKI (kids) tee to the Ka’anapali Kai Course that is offered all year round. This program allows for juniors (age 7-17) to play their own par and yardage with their own set of tees especially. Our juniors play free program (June – August 31) is always a bit hit with families. One free junior plays free with each paying adult after 1:30pm on either course. Promotes fun, healthy activities for families at a great rate!

TEACHING PROGRAMS:David Havens, PGA Director of Instruction & Sutee Nitakorn, PGA Head Golf ProfessionalPrivate Lessons: $109 for 50 minutes, $225 Short Game School$400 for playing 18-hole lesson

Now it’s your turn.

Ka’anapali Kai Course: With some of the best greens on Maui, this layout will test your course management skills. Newly renovated, the Kai Course places a premium on accuracy off the tee and a deft touch around the greens. The Ka’anapali Kai Course has beautiful views of the Pacific and neighboring islands and is home of the Golf Channel’s #1 series, Big Break Ka’anapali.

The gift of health is always nice for the holiday season and the folks at RumbleRoller have some new physical fitness tools that can sooth those aches and pains that all golfers get.

The new Beastie line of products from RumbleRoller offer some very unique and useful self-massage tools that are great for getting to those hard-to-heal spots on the body with their version of a spiked ball called the Beastie, which is one of the best ways to treat strains, tired and sore muscles.

Beastie series products expand the RumbleRoller ex-perience to provide more intense, ver-satile, portable, and affordable massage options. The Beastie is an aggressive mas-

sage ball that is the heart of this series. These products don’t replace the RumbleRoller, but they are more specific in purpose because you can use them to dig deeper into a troublesome area, or to work with greater detail on smaller muscles – e.g. those of the forearms and calves.

The Beastie was created to overcome many of the limitations of con-ventional massage balls that were too big, too small, too hard, too soft, too shallow and too sparse with the spiked nodules that dig into the muscle tissue and provide relief.

The Beastie is available in two versions – Original (clear), which has firm but flexible bumps, and X-Firm (green), which is extremely firm. The best one for an individual depends on both your sensitivity to pain and your method of use. For example, if you’re using the Beastie on the floor and putting your full weight on it, the original version might be best. If you’re using the Beastie against a wall, you’ll be applying much lower forces to it, and will probably respond best to the X-Firm. These are a great addition to the original RumbleRoller for use on different muscle groups as needed.

The company has also developed some nice accessories for the Beastie to enable you to use these massage balls up against the wall, on the floor or a stand or over the back with a hook.

Stick-type massagers have always been popular because they’re easy to use and don’t take up much space in a travel bag. Unfortunately, though, they aren’t practical to use on hard-to-reach areas like your back, shoulders, and arms. And sometimes you have to put a lot of pressure on the massager to get the effect you’re looking for.

The Beastie Bar was created to overcome these limitations. Instead of the smooth plastic rollers of a conventional stick massager, it uses a pair of Beasties with firm, high-profile bumps. It’s the first and only stick-type massager to enable true deep-tissue massage.

It’s also the only stick-type massager that can be used totally hands-free. It comes with a pair of detachable stands that securely hold the Beastie Bar so that you don’t have to. As you can imagine, this allows you to use this massage tool in many new ways and on virtually every part of your body.

The Beastie Hook was created to conveniently massage your upper back, shoulders, neck and other difficult-to-reach body parts. It allows you to massage these areas while you’re in a comfortable and relaxed upright position – e.g. even while sitting on the couch in front of your TV. Instead of a fixed contact point, the all-steel Beastie Hook uses a Beastie, which easily snaps into the Beastie Hook’s end loop.

One of the best features of the Beastie line is the DVD that is available

for more advanced and detailed instruction, entitled Jeff Alexander’s SMR Tips for RumbleRoller and RR Beastie, which can be purchased through RumbleRoller retailers or directly from SMRtips.com. This very detailed DVD is excellent for home instruction or in a gym setting and gives you all the tools necessary to use each of the RumbleRoller products to their full capacity. It is the perfect live instruction for anyone who has muscle issues that they are trying to understand and cure.

For most golfers there is no better treat during the winter holidays than getting to play golf, and a pioneer in the online reservation space—EZLinks Golf, Inc. has expanded its course offering and

services to provide one of the industry’s leading booking services that works equally well on-line or by using the tried-and-true phone method of book-ing tee times.

The company has discount pricing availability with over 1,000 golf courses nationally and some of the best software for those that want to book using just a click or two. EZLinks currently operates the world’s larg-est golf reservations network as well as the industry’s highest-volume tee time call center.

“Many golfers still prefer to book by phone,” said Gary Cohen, chief executive officer of EZLinks Golf. “Now with a single call, golfers can find out about course conditions, amenities and tee time availability at multiple courses in a single area. The EZLinks.com team of Reservation Agents is available 24/7 to help golfers find and book great deals on golf at more than 1,000 courses nationwide.”

According to Jeffrey Wright of EZLinks, the company’s background of more than 18 years in working with golf courses nationally has enabled them to develop the relationships in conjunction with their member cours-es and to refine the services that resonate with the golfing consumer—such as top-drawer phone service in addition to the ability to book on-line.

Statistically, seven of 10 rounds are booked by phone according to the National Golf Foundation, while 14 percent are booked on-line, according to statistics compiled by EZLinks, which shows a 25 percent increase from the prior year.

At EZLinks.com, golfers have access to dis-counted tee times, up to 50 percent off the stan-dard course rate, at more than 1,000 courses across the U.S. and in ten inter-national markets including popular travel destinations like Mexico and the Dominican Republic. EZLinks.com has a generous return policy and can assist with information on course conditions and amenities.

“Can you imagine being able to pick up the phone and make a reserva-tion at any restaurant you wanted, anywhere? One number, 24/7 access,” added Cohen. “That would be a great service. EZLinks.com is providing that service to the golf industry: Giving golfers one number to call 24/7 to find great deals on golf virtually anywhere.”

EZLinks is also offering a 25 percent discount to Golf Vacations Magazine readers who book on-line or call by using the following code: GOLFTRVL2.
