Operationally
• Open 7 days• Some close golf course and pool Mondays• To cut on overtime • To allow maintenance: apply fert/chem and
chlorine• Open 7am (gym and booking counters)
Golf Department• Control golfers’ activities• Organize tournaments: private or clubs• Marshals and starters• Take bookings and registrations• Caddies and Buggies• Bag drops and pickups• Headed by Golf Manager• High turnover department• Design so able to multi-task
Course Maintenance
• Looks after golf course• Possibly the landscapes too • Biggest department - manpower• Biggest cost centre• Main contributor to club’s success or failure • Headed by Course Superintendent• Remember: Number of staff commensurate
with course difficulty
F & B
• May include kitchen• Includes Banquets, seminars, meetings etc• Food outlets in the club• Second source of income to club. Maybe 1st
• Don’t neglect function and meeting rooms.• Increase flexibility of rooms usage even
lawns!• Even lobbies can be rented out: plug points
Security
• Commonly outsourced• A golf club can be 300 acres• 8,000 customers a month• Customers; middle and upper class• Car park: 100 cars capacity – good cars• All target for crime• Design it so can reduce opportunists.
Engineering/Housekeeping
• Difficult to recruit• High turnover• Do take into consideration when designing
clubhouse• Grand clubhouse lose meaning when
poorly maintained• Do you need a chandelier?
