GSBF President’s Message, Ted E. Matson

It’s hard to believe that this ismy last chance to address youall as GSBF President. Onone hand, it feels like I juststepped into the position; on

the other, it feels like I’ve been doing this for over 25 yearsĪKPPP««WKDW¶VDERXWZKHQ,¿UVWEHFDPHLQYROYHGZLWK*6%)ī

But, I think circumstances forced us to build a more solid, balanced business model for GSBF. Not only  will this help make some of those programs viable again,it will open the door to many new opportunities in the

Seiji Shiba, Bob Gould and Andrea Burhoe are the three most visible leaders and thetrue champions here as it was their vision to create thislegacy, and their perseverance that brought it to fruition. However, I would like to extend a more personal thanksto Chuck Nold, our attorney who, in crafting the trustdocument, had a bonsai master’s patience to research

and answer what probably seemed like an endless andsometimes wandering line of questions from a variety of angles, and then rework draft after draft until we got itdown right. Next, we’ve noticed that our organization hasbeen evolving in some interesting ways. Two years agoGolden Statements was described to me as the primary communication vehicle between GSBF and individualclubs and their members, period. That sentence gave

The real ex ĥciting story we have to tell is the complete makeover the website has gone through in the past few months. Thesite has gone from what can best be described as the³&UDLJ¶V/LVW´RIERQVDLVLWHVPHDQLQJWKDWORWVRILQIRUĥmation was there, but the look was text heavy and dull,to the state of the art graphics look it has today.  Taking the Golden Statements RQOLQHKDVEHHQD¿QDQĥcial boon to the Federation by increasing the circulationof the magazine to readers around the world. The online version has allowed us to monetize our tremendous ZHEVLWHWUDɷFEXLOWXSRYHUWKH\HDUVE\VHOOLQJDGVLQthe magazine and online as well. One of the biggest advantages of the website is thatthe Federation has this great communications tool thatcan keep us informed about what is going on within theFederation and within the member Clubs. For example,
