President’s Report By Ray Lamoureux
The New Year is starting and elections for the board of
director are right around the corner. The letters for intent to run went
out in the mail and must be received by January 1st at the office or in
the mail to the Progressive Management office. You must also have
a resume submitted by January 6th
in the office or the Progressive
Management office. These are very important positions that make
our community run smoothly. The election to the board will be held
on February 10th
at 10:00 in the clubhouse.
We have been improving some of our electrical devices in the
park. We are changing the flag pole lights to LED to save electricity and adding a ceiling fan to
the library for more air circulation. We are upgrading our bathroom exhaust fan systems to better
improve air flow.
The committee for reviewing rules and regulations is being formed. We have two board
members and three residents on the committee, one of the residents must be a former board
member. We have a list of volunteers for this committee in the office. The board members
chairing this committee will be Judy Fitzpatrick and Frank St. Peter. We have some rules and
regulations that need to be addressed to make them easier and clearer to understand.
We have three places for sale as of this writing. The sales are usually slow before the
holidays and pick up after the first of the year. We had two places that were sold before they
reached the office last month. This is not unusual, word of mouth seems to sell the units faster
than listing them in the office.
Inspections of the units in the park will start after the election of board members. We try
to have it completed in a week to give people time during the winter to complete any of the
violations if they receive a letter.
The park when returning from up north this summer looked overgrown. Each owner is
responsible to have their unit taken care of over the summer. You must have someone take care
of your bushes and flower beds if you are not going to be in the park over the summer.
The board hopes everyone had a safe and happy holiday and a safe return to Golden
Acres.

From the Editor’s Desk By Sue Bailey [email protected]
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here's to another year gone and a
new year beginning. May you have a happy, healthy, and
prosperous 2016!
All snowbirds should have joined us by January so let's
bring on the fun. There is so much to do in Golden Acres that no
one should be bored. Although the choosing is up to you whether to
join in some activities, all activities, or no activities. That's the
beauty of living in our park.
Within this newsletter are articles and pictures from some of
our residents; articles from past events such as the Veterans Day / Remembrance Memorial
Service, Thanksgiving dinner at the clubhouse; and announcements for upcoming events in
January.
January (in Latin, Ianuarius) is named after Janus, the god of beginnings and transitions;
the name has its beginnings in Roman mythology, coming from the Latin word for door (ianua)
since January is the door to the year. The birthstone for January is garnet, representing
constancy. The birth flower is the snowdrop representing new beginnings and hope. Besides
January first being the beginning of the new year, the other important date in January is Martin
Luther King Day, celebrated on Monday, January 18th.
Until next time,
May God bless and keep you well and safe…

Welcome New Residents Sheila Blinoff & Ed Treadway (Unit 145) By Jo Ellen Bryant
DNA, French Huguenots, Queens Golden Jubilee
Metal, Bell Canada, and Muskoka, Canada are a
few key words which all apply in some fine way to
one of our newer couples in Golden Acres. Sheila
and Ed purchased unit 145 (Pat Morningstar) last
year and are now becoming fully immersed into our
community.
They were no strangers to Dunedin as they had
rented in Twin Lakes previously and knew they
wanted to be near Dunedin and the Blue Jays, not to
mention our walking and biking trails, and the
beautiful beaches of the west coast.
They live in the “Beach Area” of Lake Ontario.
Their vacation cottage is in the North Country a two
hour drive north of Toronto located on the Canadian
Shield. Spending winters in Florida are a welcome
change.
The melding of two active lifestyles ten years ago has brought happiness to both, when Sheila
cleverly advertised for a social group with an unbalanced number of males: “Wanted a Few
Good Males”. Ed appeared on the scene and they became a couple.
Both have very unique work backgrounds and special interests. Sheila retired after 40 years as
General Manager of a community newspaper serving 30,000 residents every 2 weeks. In the
beginning, she started as a volunteer delivery member and eventually became editor. Sheila had
staff consisting of advertising and editorial support. When home she still helps with distribution.
As a result of her tireless dedication to her community for so many years, she was awarded the
prestigious Queen’s Golden Jubilee Metal in 2002.
Sheila’s hobbies include reading & genealogy where she has pursued the backgrounds of her
and Ed’s families. His origins were the French Huguenots, and go back to the potato famine.
There is also Canadian and Austrian heritage. Sheila has done DNA testing to help determine
her heritage and her ancestry goes back to the 1500’s for 18 generations! The hours of Internet
searching and exploration to track each of their families’ history and origins requires persistence
and tedious work but with satisfying results. Sheila enjoys sewing, walking, and aqua-fit as well.
Ed worked for Bell Canada in telephone and data communications as their manager of Business
Systems for over 37 years. He was an avid sailor and hiker and he still enjoys walking three
miles a day. Both of them enjoy the causeway and Howard Park for their long daily walks.
7
Owning property in Golden Acres is revealed by their bright smiles. They now can enjoy the
relaxing life retirement brings by exploring our State Parks, the Strawberry Festival, and
spending time on the Gulf. Ed loves to visit the historical Civil-War re-enactment at Fort Desoto
in February. We welcome this bright and interesting couple into our midst at Golden Acres!

Veterans' Day / Remembrance Day Memorial Service By Sue Bailey
The Memorial Service in our clubhouse was attended by residents of both Golden Acres
and Golden Crest. Many thanks to Kent Wood for organizing and coordinating the service with
Golden Crest. Joe Lemon, in his Navy uniform, led the service. The bell tolled eleven times at
the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month to begin the service honoring all
those courageous men and women who have served, fought, and those who have paid the
supreme sacrifice for our countries.
Bill Erickson, Bob Eckland, Ann Stewart, Marlene Scott, and a man and a woman from
Golden Crest (but I didn't catch their names) participated in the service. Recognition and a show
of appreciation from all was given to our veteran residents and Golden Crest veteran residents
who were present at the service. Two past veterans whom are no longer with us (Mel Hearns and
Jim Thompson) were mentioned along with two WWII veterans Edna Hearns (former resident)
and Frasier Muir (current resident) whom were unable to attend.
The service concluded with the singing of both National Anthems accompanied by
Belinda Sezbenski on the piano, followed by the playing of taps.
Everyone enjoyed conversations over coffee and baked goods (provided by our guests
from Golden Crest).
Although it wasn't on the November calendar, it was decided that going forward Golden
Acres will always host the service at our clubhouse on November 11th at 11:00 am and Golden
Crest will provide the refreshments. This will eliminate any confusion.
Ann Stewart read this beautiful poem and she agreed that I could put it in the newsletter.

With Gratitude By Kurt Nova
Having come to Golden Acres in October to renovate
lot #177, we have found kindness throughout the
park. The renovation work has been very steady and
intense. I jacked up the ceiling and reinforced the
trusses with plywood then drywalled the ceiling and
walls, then ripped out the kitchen floor and replaced
the particle board with plywood, covered it with
concrete board and I am now setting tile. It's going to
be very nice and solid.
My wife Gail is diagnosed with lung cancer and aside from all the grief that is involved, we both
thank Pat and Brenda Neafsey for taking us to the airport as we traveled to Cleveland Clinic to
receive some care. Peg Slapak offered us her home in Cleveland had we been required to spend a
long stay for care. Thank you, Jo Ellen, for your help in faxing info to Cleveland.
Pat Ellis touched our hearts with the prayer shawl which she had made for Gail.
Judy Fitzpatrick, Peg Slapak and Brenda Neafsey have invited us to dinner on many evenings as
we don't have a functional kitchen yet, and should we need or want, Judy offered the use of her
home while away on holiday.
Robert has been awesome in his support during our emergency exit to Cleveland. He stepped in
and removed our renovation trash and picked up our carport. He has also been very helpful
lending some equipment.
We are grateful to Don and Mary Lou Webb for inviting us to Thanksgiving dinner as Gail
should not be in large crowds as her immune system is chemo depleted. We loved the evening
and the food and company was fantastic.
Roz Frabotta and Paula Bunevith inspired Gail with their friendship and discussion of Hope.
This Community has a kind heart as we are new here and many residents have stepped forward
to say hello. We are very Happy to have come to Golden Acres.
