The following charts are the first step in learning about the differences of the new Honda Gold Wing and Gold Wing Tour models. Knowing thedifferences allows you to confidently recommend the perfect bike for each customer’s use and budget. Use this chart as a tool to help get newsalespeople up to speed quickly on the new models or as a quick reference guide for experienced sales associates.

For the Gold Wing and Tour models’ bodywork, Honda applied new nano-technology paint and clear coat that places the paint particles much closer togetherfor a deep, rich finish. This technology results in a finish with extreme depth and shine, and is so new, it’s the first time it has ever been used on a motorcycle.

Electric Windscreen For maximum comfort in cold weather or for

And itfeatures a last-position memory: When theignition is turned off, the windshield returns to thebottom position. Then when the rider starts themotorcycle and travels faster than three MPH, theshield automatically adjusts back to the position itwas at before the ignition switch was turned off.

Thin-Film-Transistor (TFT) LCDInstrument Screen

All 2018 Gold Wings feature a large seven-inch multi-function TFT display. Apple CarPlayintegration enables the TFT display to show thecontents of your compatible iPhone. And for riders with Bluetoothheadsets in their helmets, this allows for voice control for their phone,

1music and maps. The full-color TFT display is positioned in the centralarea of the dash and provides audio and connectivity-relatedinformation for the audio and navigation systems, as well as valueschosen for various systems, such as whether the rider has turned theHonda Selectable Torque Control on or off.

Four Selectable Ride Modes: Tour, Sport, Rain and EconGold Wings now let riders choose from four selectable Ride Modes:

Tour, Sport, Rain and Econ allow riders to select a mode to suit theirpersonal preference or road conditions. Each Mode varies poweroutput and braking character, as well as other factors depending onmodel, such as electronic suspension damping and torque control onTour models, or the DCT shift points on all of the dual-clutch models.The Ride Modes can be changed without stopping, allowing riders tochoose a mode on the fly to match the road ahead as conditionschange from a dry highway to a wet road.

SMART Key Ignition and Bag Lock SystemIn addition to all of the other audio and connectivity benefits, both

the new Gold Wing® and Tour models feature a SMART Key that enableskeyless starting and allows the trunk and saddlebags to be locked andunlocked from a few paces away. It can also automatically lock the frontfork’s mechanism for anti-theft when the handlebar is against the leftstop for convenient locking.

Front-Link SuspensionThe new Front-Link Suspension has many

benefits, including greater ride quality, improvedbump response, less brake dive, and moreconsistent chassis geometry for lighter steering.Also, because the axle moves more vertically, theengine, rider and passenger positions could be moved closer to thefront wheel for more centralized mass and more responsive handling.And with the rider and passenger now sitting closer to the fairing,ergonomics are improved and turbulence within the cockpit is reduced.

Aluminum Wheels with Tire PressureMonitoring System (TPMS)

All 2018 Gold Wings have a new, lightweight hollow-spoke wheel design featuring TPMS.This system verifies each tire’s air pressureand displays the status on the left side of thedash every time the bike is started. WithTPMS, there’s no need to crawl around on hands and knees to checktire pressures. TPMS lets owners know if their tires are underinflatedbefore and during every ride—a nice convenience and safety feature.

Electronically Selectable Spring-Preload Rear Suspension

The rear suspension is adjustable for springpreload on all Gold Wings for 2018, but theGold Wing Tour models have an added touchof luxury in the form of electronic preloadadjustment. The four suspension modes arepreset for varying loads and conditions and are displayed on thedash using graphic symbols for Rider, Rider with loaded bags, Riderand passenger, and Rider and passenger with loaded bags. You canalso think of the four modes as graduating suspension stiffness fromsoft to firm. For example, solo riders might choose one of the stiffersettings to firm up the rear suspension on their favorite twisty road.Gold Wing models have a simple and convenient remote preloadadjuster for manual adjustment to fit different riding needs.

Six-speed Transmission with Slipper Clutch, or Seven-Speed Automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)

For 2018, both the Gold Wing and Gold Wing Tour models have twonew gear-driven transmission options: a traditional Manual with aslipper clutch, or a seamless seven-speed DCT. DCT features anautomatic drive mode that can be overridden with handlebar-mountedshift switches anytime a manual gear-change is desired.

In automatic mode, DCT shifts so smoothly few riders can match itwith a manual clutch, and this dramatically enhances the rider/passenger experience. Riders no longer have to worry about using aclutch, and passengers benefit from perfect shifts every time, whichminimizes back-and-forth body movement and makes for a far morecomfortable, less fatiguing ride.

1833cc Six-Cylinder EngineNew and more powerful, the

six-cylinder engine is morecompact in every dimension. Thisliquid-cooled powerplant featuresan all-new, four-valve combustionchamber for more power. Theengine is slimmer and morecompact, saving considerable weight, yet it produces significantlymore torque and horsepower than the previous Gold Wing engine.Plus, the horizontally opposed configuration inherently lowers thecenter of gravity for agile handling.

Aluminum SwingarmThe single-sided Pro Arm® swingarm on the right side has been

completely redesigned. As before, the swingarm houses themaintenance-free shaft drive, and the open side simplifies wheelremoval. The new frame features a whole new and patent-pendingswingarm-pivot structure that increases stiffness and reducesweight for more responsive handling and a smoother ride. And thePro-Link® single rear shock is now mounted in special sphericalbushings that prevent binding in the shock mounts, making the rideeven smoother.

Forward and Reverse Walking Speed (DCT models)DCT models for 2018 offer riders an extra measure of slow-speed

maneuverability. In addition to the slow-speed Reverse feature—standard on DCT models and all of the Gold Wing Tour models—there’san additional feature to help the rider maneuver the bike forward atwalking speed, a real benefit to riders when negotiating tight parkingspots—especially with a passenger.

Aluminum FrameAll the 2018 Gold

Wings share a new,next-gen aluminumframe. Die-castaluminum sections areused throughout theframe, and they vary inthickness for tunedflex or additional stiffness for optimal handling.

Thanks in part to the new, more compact horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, the chassis is significantly smaller than previous GoldWings in every dimension—lower, lighter, much narrower, and mucheasier to handle in the city or mountain highway. The fuel tank is stilllocated under the seat for a low center of gravity and agile handling,but it’s been redesigned like every single component of the Gold Wingand Gold Wing Tour to contribute to the overall narrowness and agilityof the new bikes.

Shaft-DriveLike every Gold Wing since the beginning, all 2018 models feature

an integrated maintenance-free driveshaft for clean, easy and hassle-free long-distance riding.

Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC)Just like the VFR1200X, VFR800F and CRF1000L Africa Twin™

models, the 2018 Gold Wing and Tour models use HSTC with settingsthat ensure a sense of security in wide-ranging riding situations. Thesystem’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) calculates the rear-wheel slipratio based on signals provided by each ABS wheel speed sensorinstalled on the front and rear wheels. When the slip ratio exceeds apreset value, the ECU reduces fuel injection pitches throughfeedback control and reduces the engine torque generated, thusrestraining rear tire slip. HSTC can also be manually switched offbased on rider preference.

rear tire wraps around the newaluminum rear wheel, providing a bigger footprint that helps put all the increased power to the ground.

Combined Anti-Lock Braking System (C-ABS) and Hill Start Assist (HSA)

Gold Wings and Tour models come with the same Combined Anti-LockBraking System (C-ABS). On all models, changing the Ride Modes alsochanges braking characteristics to provide the optimum braking

performance for eachmode. Additionally, thefront brakes are radiallymounted for maximumperformance and feel, andthey feature six-pistoncalipers that deliver allthat performance withminimal lever effort.

LED LightingPowerful LED headlights,

turn signals and rear lightsgive these machines anultra-modern lightingsignature and take up lessspace than conventionallights, allowing engineers to narrow the front portion of the fairing. Themultiple-lens LED front lights include five carefully polished opticallow-beam lenses on the right and left side, creating sparklingexpressions of light. To give the high-beam a distinctive characteristic,its reflector is positioned farther inside, which contributes to an almostthree-dimensional look.

In back, the LED taillight surrounds thearea below the brake light and the rearturn signal, creating a wing-like designand high visibility on the road. Front turnsignals are neatly integrated into therearview mirrors and use three LEDlights each. The self-canceling turnsignals differentiate between a freewaypass or turning a corner and know whento switch off the LED signals. Whencornering, speed sensors determinewhen to automatically turn off the signallights. When changing lanes, the turn signals stay on for 390 feet atspeeds of 30 mph or less. Above 30, they stay on for seven seconds,giving riders more time to execute a lane change. This is smarttechnology that increases convenience. For owners wanting to addmore lighting, there are accessory LED lights for fog lamps, anadditional brake light that integrates into the upper portion of theTour model trunk, and lights for inside the luggage compartmentsthat automatically come on when the lids are opened.
