B. SC. (ECONOMICS) PROGRAMME

The undergraduate programme at Gokhale Institute is spread across three

years and encompasses forty-two courses. The course is oriented towards

fulfilling three primary objectives. First, equipping students with a firm grounding

in core economic theory. Second, introducing them to various applications of

economic theory in the real world. Third, developing a quantitative and analytical

bent of mind. Seventy percent of the courses are designed with these objectives in

mind. In addition, there are courses related to marketing, pricing, foreign

languages, and presentation skills. Guided internships, capstone project work, and

placement assistance round off a holistic course that helps a student be ready for

either further studies or to embark on a corporate career.

Upon completion of the programme, students should find themselves

equipped with the ability to pursue higher degrees in economics and related

fields, both in India and abroad. The emphasis on quantitative fields of study,

along with core courses in economics and its applications ensure that a student

will have the requisite skills to pursue a Masters degree. At the same time,

however, the emphasis on courses such as analytics and associated fields also

means that a student is employable in the corporate world from the very outset.

Where do students go after graduating from the Institute?

Students of the Institute are employed in academic research institutions,

international agencies, non-governmental agencies working in developmental

issues, financial institutions, forecasting companies, analytic firms, insurance
