Going Beyond the Basics on a Limited Budget
What is SWPBS?
•Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support
• The schoolwide discipline plan is established to provide a positive school climate, and to create a supportive environment for personal, social, and academic growth for students and staff. (Colvin, 2007)
•It’s a component of RTI (Response to Intervention).
Attention is focused on creating and sustaining:Tier1: Intervention strategies for all students(70-90%)Tier 2: Intervention strategies for those at risk of problem behavior ( 10-30% of students).Tier 3: Intervention strategies for individual students ( 1-10% of students).
•For every 1 negative comment…you give 4 positive comments.
7 Components of PBS

2. Common behavior purpose & approach to discipline lead by a building SW-PBS Leadership team
3. Clear set of positive expectations & behaviors (Matrix)
4. Procedures for teaching expected behavior schoolwide & classroom-wide (Lessons)

Classes can earn flames for positive behavior as a class. Example: The whole class is walking in a straight line, hands are behind their backs, they are all facing forward, and no one is talking.The school nurse observes the class walking by her office and tells the teacher that they are doing a nice job of being safe, respectful, and responsible and deserve a flame.

When your class earns 10 flames they can earn any one of the following:

Recognition Celebrations!1st Semester 2011-2012
•The students at Chaffee Elementary have earned more than 25,000 bracelets since August. That means teachers and staff have handed out more than 500 bags of bracelets.
•We had 223 students from grades kindergarten through 6 earn a Positive Behavior Award in the second quarter. That means 77 percent of our students had zero trips to the office second quarter.
•Every class from kindergarten through 6th grade has earned at least 2 Fired Up award and one classroom has earned 6!
