  • Godwin Pump Family

  • *Three Important factors to initially consider when selecting a Godwin Pump

    FlowHead Distance

    Firstly we look at FLOW

  • How quickly does the customer want to pump the medium away?

    Is the water level constant?

What is it? (Slurry? Dirty Water? Sewage?)

Depending on what it is, will effect the selection

Type of pump i.e. CD / HL / Heidra Solids Handling

Flow & Medium FLOW Determines line size(Based on a maximum velocity of 3.65 m/s)

  • *Three important factors to initially consider when selecting a Godwin pump

    FlowHead Distance

    HEAD

  • Suction Head

From the lowest point that the pump will need to draw from to the centre line of the impeller on the suction side.

    Discharge Head

From the centre line on the pump from the discharge side, to the highest elevated point that the pump has to overcome.

Static Head represented on the curve

    Head

  • TOTAL DYNAMIC HEAD

The sum total of ALL resistance in a pumping application expressed in meters.

i.e. Total Suction Head + Total Discharge Head + Friction losses within pipework = Total Dynamic Head.

Remember Fittings equate to more Friction loss.

    BEST EFFICIENCY POINT B.E.P

The point on a pump's performance curve that corresponds to the highest hydraulic efficiency.

    Terminology

  • *Three important factors to initially consider when selecting a Godwin pump

    FlowHead Distance

    DISTANCE

  • Distance The Total length of suction and discharge pipeline within the customers System.Things to considerIs there existing pipe work on site? How many fittings in the system?Do we need to re-size the pipe?

  • *FlowHead Distance

Once we have understood the impacting factors we can look at the duty points on a curve and understand which pump will best suit the job!

    CURVES

  • Selection on a curve SYSTEM CURVE

A plot of Total Head vs. flow that satisfies the system requirements

Head and flow are directly linked, one cannot change without the other.(i.e. the more flow the greater the frictional loss therefore the system curve is created)

    DUTY POINT

The point which is located at the intersection of the system curve and the performance curve of a pump. It corresponds to the flow and head required for the process

  • When you have the correct information, then we can start to select the pump!Know what type of pump is required for the installation (i.e. Surface Mounted, Submersible, etc.)

Plot the Flow and Head into your selection programme or onto curve These need to be around your B.E.P! or within the recommended operating range. (The pump will last longer!) Pump Curve Information

  • Flow Rate Required.

Suction Type (Suction Lift, Flooded, Syphon)

    Altitude.

    Static discharge head.

    Suction pipe length.

    Discharge pipe length.

Details of Medium being pumped (solids, ph. value, abrasiveness)

    Required pipe fittings in system.
