This week in...LodgeThis week the Nursery children have enjoyed learning about India. We have started by making samosas and painting Indian elephants. We had fun learning Indian dancing and colouring rangoli patterns. As the sun has been shining the children loved painting freely and playing with the water in the Nursery garden. A big thank you to Mrs Asad for bringing in onion bhajis for the children to try. They were delicious! Mrs Dhillon also kindly came in to tell us all about India. We looked at a map of the country, clothes worn there and tried some special sweets.

This week Beginners have been reading and writing about Noah’s Ark, They have produced some lovely descriptive writing about the animals in the Ark. In maths the children have been working with 100 grids to consolidate and extend their knowledge of number order and formation.

Kindergarten thoroughly enjoyed their outing to the Oxford Botanical Garden. They were excited to explore the flower and vegetable gardens, orchard and medicinal plant collection, but their favourite discovery was the Rainforest greenhouse.

Transition enjoyed a lovely trip to Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital on Wednesday, as part of their Science topic. They saw some injured hedgehogs and learnt a great deal about how they may become injured and how they are looked after. We also met some other injured animals, including red kites, seagulls, ravens, foxes and deer, and saw some baby birds being fed, something which takes place every 20 minutes from dawn until dusk! We also had fun trying to identify different types of baby animals. Also this week, Transition carried out a survey to find out the most popular fruit juice in the class, out of four different types, ranking their favourites and showing their results on a bar chart.

Mary Berry opens recently refurbished cookery room

Davenies will once again be running their very popular summer camp during the summer holidays - 24th July - 11th August. For more information, click here. For a booking form click here.

Mary Berry officially opened Godstowe’s Food Technology Room on Friday 19th May. “The Chef’s Kitchen”, as it is now known, was completely refurbished in April using funds donated by Friends of Godstowe and now features a brand new, fully equipped kitchen.

Mary Berry, who lives nearby in Penn and whose daughter attended Godstowe, met with eight of our Year 8 school monitors before heading up to the new kitchen and cutting the red ribbon. The television chef was very impressed with the new facility and explained to the girls how her own love for cooking began at school.

Mr Gainer organised a special assembly for the girls in Main School following the opening, where we hosted our very own “Godstowe Bake Off”, judged by Mary Berry. Six volunteers – one from each year group – were asked to cook a Victoria sponge and submit it into the Bake Off. In true Bake Off style, Mary carefully judged each cake on its taste and texture. The winner was Olivia from Form II and the runner up was Poppy from Lowers. Mary presented a Olivia with a signed version of her latest book “Mary Berry Everyday”, and Poppy also received one of Mary’s books.

Following the success of previous photo competitions by the Physical Geography Special Interest Group, the Physical Geography Photo Competition has returned. The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Landscape Story’ and it is open to 11-14 year olds (MIII - IVs).

Girls will need to submit a photo of a physical landscape with a description (maximum of 250 words) that describes

and interprets the physical geography that has created your landscape. The competition entry deadline is Friday 17 September 2017.

WEEK FOUR WEEK FIVEQuiz of the Week ?

You smiled for the picture,But you didn’t know you were smiling me.The glint in your eyes is the same as mine,

Although no-one could yet see.

You did not know what the future held for you,And I do not know what the future holds for me.

You wear the same uniform as I,And the same age we may be.

We are the same in our own ways,A picture of you,Is a picture of me,

Together you,Together me.

The same place, the same age. 30 years apart,Together you, together me,

In picture and always in heart.
