SUGGESTED DATE:week of September 18
LEADER BIBLE STUDY In the previous session, we reviewed God’s creative process for populating the earth
with a variety of living animals. Now we turn to the creation of humanity. Notice
that God made an immeasurable leap in His value of humans relative to the rest of
creation. He created mankind, both male and female, in His image (Genesis 1:27).
This means that humans have characteristics like God Himself. We can communicate
in complex languages and can make moral choices. Most importantly, we have a
spiritual nature and can have a personal relationship with God.
God commanded the man and woman to procreate and be stewards of His
creation. He provided them with food and a perfect environment to live.
Genesis 2 provides details of God’s creation of man, called Adam in chapter 3.
God made the man from the dust of the earth. Unlike the animals created earlier, God
breathed life into the man! God placed him in a beautiful garden. He told the man to
name the animals. No creature, however, was adequate as a companion for the man,
so God put him to sleep and formed a woman from his rib. Today’s study ends with
the biblical definition of marriage.
What does it mean that humans are stewards of God’s earth?

Why is God’s definition of marriage so significant (Genesis 2:24)? (See Jesus’
affirmation: Matthew 19:4-6; Mark 10:6-9.)

GROUP TIME ►Move to music. Play an action song where preschoolers must use their hands or
feet. Then guide each child to find a partner. Play “Wiggle Your Toes” (track 17).
Instruct children during or after the song to touch elbow to elbow (big toe to big toe,
knee to knee, shoulder to shoulder).
►Tell the Bible story. Open your Bible to Genesis 1. Point to the creation time line
and review days 1–6. Introduce the puppet that will listen to the Bible story with the
children. Explain that today’s Bible story tells more of what happened on day 6. As
you tell the story, nod the puppet’s head when something good happens.
GOD MADE PEOPLE—Based on Genesis 1:26-31; 2:2,7,15-24
On the sixth day when God was making the world, He made a man and a woman.
He made the first man from the dust of the ground. He called the man Adam. He
gave life to Adam by breathing into him. He placed Adam in the garden to work in
it and take care of it.
God decided Adam should not be alone, so he made a woman. Adam named
the woman Eve, and she became Adam’s helper. God made Adam and Eve to take
care of the fish in the water, birds in the air, and animals that walk or crawl on land.
He gave them the fruit trees and plants to eat. They lived together in the garden.
He looked at them and saw that it was very good. Evening came, and the sixth day
was done.
On the seventh day, God rested. He created everything in six days!
►Learn the Bible Verses. Using your puppet, say the Unit Verse: “In the beginning
God made the world.” Ask the children to say the verse using the names Adam and
Eve instead of the world. Encourage all the children to say the Weekly and Unit Verses
with the puppet.
►Recall the Bible story. Display the Teaching Picture. Ask questions about the Bible
story. Invite a volunteer to tape the picture of Adam and Eve to the time line.
►Review the Life Point and pray. Lead preschoolers to form a circle and sit.
Demonstrate tapping knees twice and clapping hands twice. Keep tapping and
clapping as children join you. Add this chant after they have the rhythm down: “God
made people. God made people. God made me, and my name is .” Go around the
circle until each child has said his name. Pray, thanking God for making people.
►Wrap it up. Show the “God Made People: Life Action” video. Talk about how the
video relates to the Life Point. Sing “God Made You and Me” (track 1).

BIBLE-LEARNING ACTIVITIES
GUESS THE ITEMFind items in the room or from home with different textures. Consider using felt, a cotton ball, a seashell, a pinecone, a small stone, a twig, and a sponge. Place these items in a small paper bag. Post the Allergy Alert if using nature items.
• Help each child complete a Kids Activity Page.
• Direct a child to reach in the bag to feel an item. Suggest she guess what the item is
before she pulls it out.
• God made people with the ability to touch and feel things. We can touch items with
our hands and feel the difference.
• Talk about things children should not touch. (Nature and Science)
BUILD WITH BLOCKSDisplay the person block pattern in the blocks area.
• Encourage children to make the pattern using similar-size blocks.
• As preschoolers work, recall the Bible story. Mention this week’s Bible Verse.
• To extend play, suggest they use the blocks to outline a child as he lies on the floor.
(Blocks)
PLAY A MATCHING GAME • Invite preschoolers to play the matching game. Place the cards faceup. Guide the
children to take turns finding matches of children’s faces.
• To challenge the children, place the cards facedown. Demonstrate turning over two
cards at a time. If the cards do not match, turn them back over until there is a match.
• Talk about how God made people. He made us different from any of the other
creatures. Remind boys and girls that Jesus loves all children. (Puzzles and Games)
SMELL DIFFERENT FOODSPrint 4 of the “Like/Don’t Like” charts from the CD. Tape the charts next to each food item. Post the allergy sign listing the food items.
• Encourage a child to smell one of the foods. Ask the child if she likes the way the food
smells.
• Point to the faces on the chart; direct the child to place a sticker under the happy face
if she liked the smell or under the sad face if she did not like the smell. Then guide
the child to smell the other foods and place a sticker on each chart.
• As preschoolers smell the food, mention that God made our noses so we can smell.

OUTLINE A CHILDCut a long piece of paper as long as or longer than the tallest child in your class.
• Choose a volunteer to lie down on the paper so the other children can make an
outline of the child. Once the outline is complete, instruct the preschoolers to draw
clothes and facial features on the outline.
• As the children work, remind them that in the beginning God made a man and
woman on day 6. Their names were Adam and Eve. Show children the Teaching
Picture. (Art)
BONUS ACTIVITIES
MISSIONS ACTIVITYRemark that the missionary, Kimberly Cain, tells children in West Africa that God made
people—that He made them. Display the Missions Pictures. Point to the storytelling
cloth picture. Say that Kimberly tells the children about God creating the world and
that He sent His Son, Jesus, to make a way for us to follow God’s plan. Talk about
different Bible stories the children could tell others.
REVIEW THE BIBLE STORYProvide for each child the Coloring Page “God Made People.” As the children color,
remind them that God planned for and made people. Invite them to talk about all
kinds of people—how they look, how they talk, where they live. Comment that God
wants all people to learn about Him. Play the music “Creation of God” (track 13).
CLEAN UPMake children aware that it is time to clean up and straighten the room. Remind them
that we work together. Refrain from asking the children if they want to clean up the
room. Simply state that all our friends are working together to help put things back
where they belong.

Explain that the song they learned is actually a Bible
Verse. Practice singing the song with hand motions
several times.
PRAYThank God for making people different from the
other things He made.
BIBLE-LEARNING ACTIVITIESEmphasize during the activities: God made
people.
A. Make fingerprint designs. Provide paper,
washable ink pads, and markers. Suggest the
children make shapes or designs with their
fingerprints. Guide them to add details to
their designs with the markers. Briefly review
the Bible story as the children work. State
that when God made people He made them
different from any other thing He made.
B. Work puzzles. Provide puzzles about people
such as community workers, Adam and Eve,
and Jesus loving the children. As preschoolers
work the puzzles, talk about the amazing way
God made people. Consider the five senses
God gave people. Lead children to pray,
thanking God for our wonderful bodies.
C. Make “me” puppets. Provide paper lunch
bags, markers, yarn, googly eyes, and glue.
Direct preschoolers to make puppets of
themselves. As they work, emphasize that in
the beginning God made people —a man and
a woman. Mention that God placed them in a
garden to care for it.
D. Play a listening game. Direct preschoolers to
be quiet and listen. After a few seconds allow
them to tell you what they heard. Play several
times. Include your own sounds such as
snapping your fingers, clicking your tongue, or
tapping your toes. After children have listened
for a while, comment that God gave us ears
to help us hear. He made us so we can love
our mother and father by listening to them.
Remark that when God made people He
made them different from any other creation.
CLEAN UPMention to the children that God gave them eyes
to see, legs to move around the room, and hands to
pick up toys. Direct children to help clean the room.
PLAY A GUESSING GAMELead the children to form a circle, then sit down. Tell
them you will describe a person in the room. The
children should guess who the person is. Continue
until all children have been described. Include
other teachers in the room. Comment that when
God made people He made them different from
any other things He made. He made the first man
and woman. Say or sing the Bible Verse: “Love your
father and mother.”
DISMISSHelp children gather their papers and belongings.
Thank them for coming. Remind parents to use
the Bible and Me verses on the One Conversation™
page.

Missions in West Africa
Missionary: Kimberly Cain
Jesus loves all children everywhere and wants them
to learn about Him. Kimberly Cain in West Africa loves
children and tells them about Jesus.
Sometimes Kimberly teaches children as they sit on mats
on the dusty ground. Sometimes she teaches children
at a local church where the roof is made of woven grass.
That church building might not look like yours, but the
children in West Africa are learning the same stories from
the Bible that you are!
Kimberly uses a storytelling cloth to tell stories from the
Bible. Each picture on the cloth is about a different Bible
story. Kimberly tells children the Bible stories so they can
grow up knowing Jesus and telling others about Him.
Pray
• For missionaries to learn the new language
• For missionaries to adjust to a new culture and year-
round hot temperatures
• For the children of West Africa to learn to follow Jesus
and tell others
