Gobak Sodor

Gobak Sodor is one of traditional game Indonesia. This game had many name in

different places. In west java it called Galah asin or Galasin, in riau this game known as

Galah Panjang or Main Belon.

To play this game you need rectangular field with the size of the adjusted number

of players then divided into 6 sections to be three adjacent sections. This game is a

game group that consists of two groups, where each team consists of 3-5 people. But if

you want more people to play you need a larger area for play areas. One team is the

breaker and the other is the guard. You can decide to which team by using Rock Paper

Scissors.

Breaker team started the game from outside the forefront. Breaker team must be

nimble to pass guard to go to rear line and returned to the front lines. Team guards must

prevent an opposing player (breaker team) toward the rear and back again to the front

line. Guards catch by touching the body of Breaker team with open arms and legs still

stepping on the line position. Guard team keep field by maintaining the vertical and

horizontal lines, each line is maintained by one person. To determine who is the

champion all team members must complete the process back and forth in a rectangular

field.

Breaker team otherwise die and turn to change if:

1. boot feet out of the side lines

2. returned to the plot that have been passed

3. guards catch or touch the breaker

4. meet the player towards the back line with player who headed to the front lines

in one plot

5. one group consist of 3 people then in one plot should not be more than 2

people, but if one group consist of 5 people then in one plot should not be more

3 or 4 people (this rule maybe different in other place)

The rules above can be different in other places but the basic rule is always same that is

preventing your opponent down to the front lines.

When all team members had complete the process back and forth in a rectangular

field, the game starts all over again.

This game is very interesting, exciting and extremely difficult because each

person must be on guard and ran as fast as possible if necessary to achieve victory.
