Foot Defensible Space

The goal is to identify and remove any large accumulation(s) of debris outside the 30 foot defensible space you have created. The most common example of this type of debris, is a diseased or already downed tree. Any type of downed tree is fuel for fire.

Downed / Diseased Trees

Often, the large areas of downed or diseased tree accumulation are located on steep slopes and rough terrain. THIS IS PRIME FUEL FOR A WILDFIRE. REMOVAL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

In situations where the homeowner has the time, equipment and skill level they may wish to do much of the removal activity themselves. But, if this does not apply, removing the built up fuel levels could require the help of a tree professional who will have both the equipment and expertise to handle the problem.

The WHOA Firewise Committee can be of assistance to homeowners with ideas and recommendations. We have researched local experts and have experience working with these professionals. Please contact any representative of the Firewise Committee for this information.
