It is one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites. It is famous forthe mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier kept inside theBasilica. Built on Baroque architecture, it was the firstbasilica to be built in India. Located in Old Goa region, itwas built in 1594 with marbled floor and valuable stones.

An Interesting Fact: The body of St. Francis Xavier is keptinside a casket which goes on exhibition every 10 years.

Also known as the Sea of Milk, the waterfall is a beautiful spectacle onMandovi river and is 60 kms from the capital of Goa, Panaji. Surrounded by athick cover of daciduous forests, the waterfall divides the Goan and Karnatakastates. The best time to visit this spot is Monsoons when the water is flowing atfull gush.

An Interesting Tip: You can take a train from the Castle Rock station to gethere. The train stops at Dudhsagar station for a minute. The station is anunscheduled stop so don’t expect a platform here. Just descend the steep trainstairs and get going.

Standing on Sinquerium Beach overlooking the ArabianSea, Fort Aguada is a 17th century Portuguese wonder. One ofthe main attractions here is its four-storied lighthouse. It wasconstructed in 1613 and used for guarding the area from theDutch and Maratha armies coming by sea.

An Interesting Fact: A freshwater spring located inside thefort premises was used by the passing Portuguese ships toreplenish their water storage, hence the name Aguada.

Located in the Colva village of south of Goa, Colva beach is famousfor its powder white sand and lines of coconut trees extending alongthe shore. During the Portuguese rule of the state, Colva wasconsidered to be a retreat, where officials would come for leisurelyholidays. The area has many villas and a number of old Portugueseruins.

An Interesting Tip: It is the perfect stop for tourists as the beachoffers cheap hotel stays, beach shacks, food stalls and many clubs andbars.

#5 Anjuna Beach

Anjuna beach is situated in the village of Anjuna, one of the 12Brahmin communities of this area of Bardez. It also has the famous St.Michael’s Church located here where feasts take place on every 29thSeptember in the memory of St. Michael.

An Interesting Tip: For all you party animals- It is famous for hostingtrance parties. It is also a shopper’s heaven as a flee market is in fullswing every Wednesday from morning till evening.

Calangute Beach

The beach attracts peak rush in NewYears and Christmas seasons. Apart fromthat, it also offers water sports like skiing,parasailing etc.

Cabo De Rama

A Goan beach fort named after Lord Rama, it is located in Canacona, Goawhich is merely 25 kms from Margao. It is the oldest fort in Goa, constructedeven before the Portuguese came here. As per the Hindu mythology, LordRama took refuge here with his wife Sita when they were on a 14 years exilefrom Ayodhaya.

An Important Fact: The Portuguese renovated the place and installed 21guns and constructed their barracks inside. The present ruin of the fort is alsoa reminiscence of the old Portuguese construction

Baga Beach

Thousands of tourists come here every year to visit theBaga Beach and the Baga Creek. One can see rows ofshacks and fishermen boats at the beach everyday. Onecan come here to enjoy water sports like parasailing,dolphin cruises and more.

An Interesting Fact: The beach derives its name fromBaga Creek that feeds into Arabian sea at the beach’snorthern end.

Sunburn FestivalWelcome to Asia’s largest Music Festival at the shoresof Goa. Sunburn is the largest EDM (Electronic DanceMusic) fest that is held every year in Vagator, Goa. In2009, CNN ranked it as the 9th best festival across theworld. Artists from all over the world performsimultaneously on different stages.

An Interesting Fact: Sunburn is a 3-day continuousfestival that, apart from music, also offers loads of foodand shopping to its patrons.
