Capital--------------- Go Green in Addis Making environmentally friendly choices Initiative Africa, a local non- governmental organization (NGO), in collaboration with theprivate,public, international, NGOs, and academia is to hold the first international Go Green Afrique-Africa fair and conference at Addis Ababa Exhibition Center from June 23 to 26. Arinouncing to the press at Jupiter Hotel, the Executive Director of Initiative Africa, Kebour Ghenna, stressed the need to be fast if we want to tackle pressing issues as varied as energy security and efficiency, and at the same time keep climate change on agenda He said "Our life is totally connected in one way or the other with the consumption of energy. If the present source of energy for transportation and various use runs out, think for a while what would happen to our daily life. We may not face an energy drought right away but we should begin to think about alternative means today." "We need to bring such issues to the forefront of the public's attention and work toward solutions so that we can hand over a safe and healthy environment for" the next generation just like our ancestors did for us. We must find alternative technologies to sustain economic and social wellbeing, he added, explaining the reason behind this event. "The concept of Go Green is to try and bring about answers as to how to tackle the current energy crisis. The fair will offer visitors an in-depth look at the growing green revolution and what is available in terms of renewable energy sources, products, services, but also academicians to discuss and . leam a better organized way of life. n.us is all about being and going green. Over 30 workshops and presentations are planned while about 100 exhibiting organizations from Ethiopiaand Africa, working on advancing environmental responsibility will participate. "The Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), aspires to reach an emission rate of zero by 2025. That is why 47 institutions are participating in this initiative," added Negash Tekle (Phd), head of PRE (population Health Environment Integration in Ethiopia), "our economic endeavor needs an integrated approach." "Our country, second in Africa in population size, sees its cities polluted, and less and less green space, we hope this event will help educate people and answer soDie questions," he said, pointing that our economic growth must be environment friendly. Humans create pollution wherever they go. In order to mitigate the impact of human action against the environment, there must be an initiative" to safeguard the planet. In the face of increasing world population, now at seven billion, the concern for the environment has become a hot issue. "Today the only way for Africa to develop is to go green given the experience of other nations and the challenges they are facing. Green technologies can ensure sustainable development," said Dr. Araya Asfaw, Head of Horn of Africa Regional Environment Center and Network, "It is a timely and relevant issue and many emerging businesses shall be promoted during the Go Green fair." In reply to questions related to the objectives and sustainability of the Fair, Kebour Ghenna explained that the 'Go Green' event is a journey and not a destination. He said the Fair is designed to help us revolutionize the knowledge and facts available for climate vulnerable communities. The Fair will demonstrate products and services that are ecologically friendly, as well as practices that will save lives, prevent disasters and make agriculture, health and water services more robust. The event is a collaborative effort between Initiative Africa and Population Health and Environment (PRE), Horn 01 Africa Regional Environment Center and Network, Cordaid, Henrich Boll Stiftung Ethiopia AREA, and World Futur( Council, ECOPIA, Ethiopiar Chamber of Commerce, ane the Pan African Youth Union.
