This is Mr. Go Digital with yet another practical tutorial leveraging technology to make everyday life easier. In this example we will be integrating the micro-blogging phenomenon known as Twitter into our day-to-day communications through our BlackBerry Smart Phone device.

What is Twitter?

Twitter is a social networking service that allows users/members to send text-based messages up to 140 characters in length. This is known as micro-blogging.

Updates are displayed via the user's profile page and delivered to users who elect to “follow” the sender’s updates. The sender has the option to enable a public-facing account (open to everyone) or restrict the delivery to his or her circle of friends Users can opt to receive routine updates via SMS, RSS, the Twitter site, Facebook, or via email.

What is BlackBerry technology?

BlackBerry is a handheld Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) introduced to the market in 1997 known primarily for its wireless email capabilities. BlackBerry can also provide the user with access to the Internet, as well as maintain an internal address book, Advanced configurations include utilization as a pager device, serve as a modem for a laptop, and Global Positioning System (GPS). BlackBerry has infiltrated the commercial and government sectors largely due to integrate with Microsoft Exchange Server and its ability to store and forward internal Outlook accounts. This trend has solidified the rise of the telecommuter/mobile working sector of the world’s population. BlackBerry is designed by a company known as Research In Motion.

What benefits would integrating Twitter into my BlackBerry messages deliver?

Provides “Passive Invite to Your Twitter Page”For many BlackBerry users, it is their primary means of communicating messages. Integrating Twitter into those messages will provide a “point-of-entry” for your friends and contactsto access your account “passively”. Consider it a friendly reminder with each message that is sent via BlackBerry.

Increase Memberships/Sales targetsTwitter can be used for many purposes from “announcing” breaking news for media outlets to Black Friday sales after Thanksgiving for Retail businesses. If you are armed with a solid email collection system, proper usage of Twitter will increase sales due to its ability to utilize SMS to reach users on their cell phones.

Eliminates “Annoying” Invite Messages Due to the rampant mis-use of email marketing, many people are beginning to ignore emails that they didn’t necessarily opt to receive. Consider email blasts to be the new door-to-door salesman of the modern era.

Step-by-Step ConfigurationLog-in to your cell phone carrier.

After logging in, scroll down to select Set Up BlackBerry E-mail

Select Edit next to the Email account.

Highlight the text in your Signature text box titled Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile



In this example I added a brief statement and the link to my twitter page. Join the Digital Technology Revolution on Twitter at: http://www.twitter.com/mrshadeed

Final Testing When I send a loopback test (email myself), it will display my new signature at the bottom.
