Doctor Alison Dawson now serves as Senior Doctor for Princess Cruises. A native of South Africa, she studied medicine in Johannesburg before eventually joining Princess in 2014 to fulfill her love of sea and travel. We caught up with her to get her insights into cruising and what goes into crafting the perfect voyage.

HOW DID YOUR CHILDHOOD INFLUENCE YOUR DECISION TO HAVE A CAREER AT SEA?

“My holidays were spent camping

at a seaside resort with days playing

on the white sandy beaches of South

Africa. I have always loved the sea. I

remember seeing my first cruise ship in

Port Elizabeth and being overwhelmed

with the size and grandeur of cruising. I

was amazed that there was a doctor on

board; so, fantasy became reality.”
