Statement of Teaching Interests and Philosophy

Teachers provide a catalyst for learning by making information understandableand applicable to students. A teacher must have an intense passion forteaching. An effective teacher also has the will and the ability to show emotion,

realizing that genuine emotions not only reveal his or her character, but are alsoan effective and personal means of communication. And not least, a teachermust know the importance of being humble (F.P.H. Chan).

Philosophy: Throughout my life as a student, I have always admired my excellent schoolteachers and university professors. I especially enjoyed the enthusiasm that emanated fromsome professors as they were vividly explaining a subject. One could easily tell that theyhad such a passion and love for what they were teaching. They have all inspired me to lovea teaching and an academic career. I also want to be able to inspire and educate young andfresh minds. There is nothing comparable to sharing the knowledge you love becauseknowledge can only be valuable if it is shared. My experience as a Lecturer in School ofBusiness Studies, Orasoft Training Institute and PIPS, Karachi, Pakistan, has deepenedfurther my passion for teaching.

Teaching is an activity that I enjoy for many reasons. There is a simple satisfaction ofexplaining a difficult and complicated but interesting topic to students, showing them how itworks and why it is important. I grew up to think and believe that the best way to help aperson to successfully model and shape his/her future is to help him/her succeed. Thissuccess involves developing an excellent rapport with him/her through effective teaching. This philosophy has, in fact, dominated my personality such that I view teaching more as mylife-style rather than just a job. I understand teaching as a touch of the future. I have verygreat interest in teaching because I view teaching as an investment for the benefit ofhumankind.

Educating the next generation of researchers is an important goal for my future academiccareer, both to guide students and to enrich my own knowledge. My teaching experiences

have demonstrated to me that the process of refining and explaining complex concepts toan audience is personally rewarding and greatly increases my own understanding of thoseconcepts. My experiences have emphasized my desire to teach and advise undergraduateand graduate students in a manner that will prepare them for interdisciplinary research.

I have greatly enjoyed the teaching opportunities I have had and I look forward to teachingas part of my academic career. I want to teach because I like the opportunity to share myknowledge with my students and love the satisfaction that results from making themunderstand a difficult but interesting concept. Discussions with students have also enhancedmy understanding of Management Science.

One of the characteristics of a good teacher is that he or she is fair minded in their dealingswith students. I have always been guided by this principle and am always open to studentschallenging the marks I have given them on tests and assignments. I have alwaysendeavored to give students as much feedback as possible on tests and assignments. Sincethis is difficult to do with written assignments in large classes, I give each student a

feedback which gives them information on their writing style, spelling, accuracy ofinformation etc. The students not only appreciate such feedback but also use thesefeedbacks as guide for writing assignments in other courses they take subsequently.

Past Teaching Experience: I grew up in a teaching family, my brother, my sisterswere/are teachers. I started teaching English, Business Communication and FinancialAccounting voluntarily to classmates, friends, family friends and neighbors. I continuedteaching voluntarily for many years until I completed my education. I found the experienceenjoyable and gratifying. I started my professional teaching career as a Lecturer Isra HigherSecondary School Hyderabad, Pakistan in 2003, where I taught English using modernteaching aids and techniques for two years

Today, I feel so blessed and gratified at the mere thought that many of my former studentsare not only dispersed all over Pakistan but are also very successful in their individual waysand they still maintain good rapport with me.

Future Teaching Interests: I have worked in academia. Throughout my teaching career Ihave always looked for better ways of teaching. I establish academic links with other facultymembers.

I believe teaching is an integral part of an academic career and I have a keen interest inteaching graduate and under graduate Management Science courses including BusinessCommunication and Business Law. As a teacher, I hope to advance the intellectualdevelopment of my students to the best of my abilities. I am confident that my past teachingexperience, strong academic background and communication skills coupled with thoroughpreparation and enthusiasm for the subject will make me an excellent teacher.
