Friday, September 22 • 8:00pm34660 Woodward Ave, Birmingham
Village Players perform the famous Cole Porter musical. As the SS American heads out to sea, two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love, proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help – from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail. Peppering this hilarious cruise are
some memorable tunes: “I Get a Kick out of You,” “It’s Delovely,” and of course, “Anything Goes.”
We have reserved a prime block of 16 seats. Purchase your own ticket by calling 248-644-2075 and specify GM Ski Club seating. Unsold reserved seats will be returned to theater after
Sept 11. Ticket Cost: $21 plus $1 processing fee. Meet early for dinner at Rojo’s Mexican in

Hello once again GMSC Members. Sadly, the summer is drawing to a close – but we’ll go out with a bang. We are closing out our outdoor meetings with a last hurrah at River Woods Park – Mexican-style. So wear your finest sombreros, ponchos, huipils, and churros. Come on out and enjoy great food and friends.
Starting with our October meeting, we’ll be returning to last year’s haunt, Bahama Breeze. So please plan on attending and help us to show our hosts how happy we are to be back.
Along with the close of summer, comes the close of one of the most active periods for our club in recent history. So I’d like to give a shout of thanks to everyone who has hosted an event, or helped bring an event together. There is a lot of thought and planning in most of the events and the organizers deserve our thanks. I hope you’ve been able to attend several of these.
Believe it or not, I’m already planning my annual Christmas party and I could use your help. If you took any pictures on any of our ventures this year please send them to me. I am preparing a slide show which I will play throughout the night. It will be a great way for you to re-live those great times.
Of course just because summer is closing out, doesn’t mean activities are ending. We have some of the best coming up. In October we will be returning to Hawk Woods. This gorgeous venue is perfect for our weekend of “indoor camping” as well as an afternoon excursion. We will also feature another euchre tournament in the lodge. Please sign up early if you plan to attend any part of this weekend.
That’s it for now. Have a great rest of summer.
– Darrell Ahlberg, President, GM Ski Club

It was a nice August day for our annual GM Ski Club Picnic. Thanks to our experienced kayaker Ken Phillips leading the way, some of us started the day paddling around Stony Creek Lake. Ken did a good job, because nobody capsized or made a wrong turn on the calm lake. Later, at the very nice picnic shelter (with electricity!) people started arriving to partake in the abundant food and games. We had some new games this year. One of them was Jenga, which is like building a skyscraper with the least amount of wooden block supports. It gets exciting towards the end of the game. Another game was trip wire volley-ball where you did not want to go out of bounds while playing. You can ask Joe Yoblonski and a couple of other people how it works. Some of the people led by ace navigator Danny Boyd bicycled the circular path around the park. Later in the afternoon, Chef Paul arrived and served his usual delicious food topped off by an ice cream desert. With full stomachs, everybody seem satisfied with another pleasant GM summer picnic.
Annual Picnic
Annual Picnic
This year’s campout featured about the finest weather we’ve had all summer. Temps were in the low 80’s and it was sunny. Our campsites were well tree shaded and very picturesque. The fun started Friday night with pizza delivered from a local pizzeria. This was followed by continental breakfasts both Saturday and Sunday mornings. The continental breakfast featured bottomless coffee cups. I.E. we never ran out. We took our time rolling out of bed and started the day whenever we felt like it. Saturday afternoon, we had BBQ hot dogs, and for Saturday dinner, we had hamburgers and chicken. People spent their days visiting the beach, going for bike rides and hikes, and simply playing a few games of cards. Best of all, it was close to home. After breaking camp, some were home within an hour. Others chose to spend the day at the beach and head home later. It was an extremely relaxing weekend enjoyed by all. If you missed it, we hope that you can join us next year.
Camping Weekend
The night started with a tailgate party outside the Freedom Hill theater. After about an hour of that, we headed inside to steak out a great piece of grass for the best lawn seats in the house. We had a great turnout of about 15 people and the concert was fantastic. If you’ve never seen Santana in concert, you are missing something truly amazing. Big thanks to Sharon Rose and Amy Skotzke for putting the whole thing together.
Santana Concert
GM Ski Club’s good weather fortune continued with Colleen Karalis’s party on her lakefront property. Well almost – we had some question-able weather early on, but everything cleared up just in time for our party. The BBQ was great and the most fun, once again, were all the paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes which were available all afternoon for people to play with. And of course, Colleen took us on a guided pontoon tour of the lake. A huge thanks to Colleen for lending us her home and putting the afternoon together.
