Rationale
Homework is a useful bridge between home and school. Homework offers an insight into the child’s learning at school and their skills and abilities.
Aims
The aims of setting homework are:- To reinforce what children have been learning at school
and improve confidence. - To provide extra practice for skills learned in school e.g.
reading, spelling, timetables. - To encourage children to take responsibility for their
learning.- To promote good study habits, allowing children to
organise and manage their time. -
Approach
Homework will involve a variety of tasks throughout the school year. These tasks may include: - Spelling - Reading- Numeracy tasks - Topic challenges

Homework diaries
Homework diaries are used to communicate homework and are a useful tool for communication between home and school. Homework diaries should be brought to school daily.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
We offer an after school homework club every Monday and Wednesday to provide further support and opportunities to complete homework. This allows children access to laptops and internet.
Additional Support Needs
All homework tasks will be set appropriate to the ability of the child.

Choose a time that suits both the child and other family members.
Make sure your child is clear what homework has been set, when it has to be completed and how long it should take.
Chunk homework into manageable bits.
Use encouragement and reward activities for good attempts.

Marking Policy January 2020
Marking- Keep the learning intention as the focus when
marking work- Praise effort as well as attainment and mark positively
orally or through short comments, ensuring feedback is specific
- Try to give pupils areas for improvement or constructive feedback privately
- Make use of AIFL self/peer marking approaches- Try to use colour codes or highlighters when marking
to allow the learner to see feedback visually - Don’t overcorrect spelling, be selective, only focus on
words which have been taught- Minimise the number of errors you highlight, perhaps
only one of each type- Encourage emailing word processed written work
