Year 6 Farewell
Tonight is the night of the Year 6 2016
Farewell. All Year 6 students need to arrive at
6.15pm and assemble outside the library.
Year 6 parents leave once the students are
seated and return at approximately 7.30pm to
watch the dance, power point photos, Year 6
song and presentation of honour rolls.
The evening concludes at 9.00pm.
All the best Year 6 – have a wonderful night
and remember this will be one of the highlights
of your years in primary school.
We would like to thank all the Year 5 parents
who have helped in any way to make this night
such a success. Without your enthusiasm,
dedication, skills and hard work, this event
would not go ahead. Thank you for being so
reliable, considerate and cooperative - a true
team!
Rod Maggs Stage 3 Supervisor
Thank you - We would like to say a big thank you to Gloucester Public School staff, especially all the teachers we have had over the last seven years. We will really miss all of the staff and fellow students! We have so many great memories from the past years and we hope to meet again another day. From all of the students in Year 6!
Gloucester Public School Farewells
Come and share in the special time that is the
last day of primary schooling for our Year 6
students.
At 2.40pm on Friday, students of GPS will form
a guard of honour to farewell our Year 6
students as they head off to high school life
and beyond. Family and friends are welcome to
join in this memorable occasion as they finish
primary school.
Best of luck, Year 6! You are an amazing group
of fantastic people. Thank you for all you have
contributed to our school over the last seven
years. We will miss you!

Sporting Schools
Our 2016 Sporting Schools Program has been
lots of fun and we would like to thank everyone
who attended this year. It was great to see so
many familiar faces as well as so many new
ones. It has been a busy year and we enjoyed
the following sports activities:
Term 1: Orienteering and Table Tennis
Term 2: Squash and Touch Football
Term 3: Netball and Softball
Term 4: Golf and Hockey
We trust that you all enjoyed the program,
learnt new skills and developed a love of sport
and being active. Our Sporting Schools
Program will commence again in Term 1, 2017.
Congratulations to Luke Williams who received
the Premier’s Sporting Award at our
presentation evening last week. Luke attended
numerous AASC and Sporting Schools sessions
at Gloucester Public School and he always
played fair and tried his best. Good luck to
Luke and all our Year 6 students who are
venturing off to High School. We hope that
you will continue to enjoy sport and being
active!
Finally, we hope you have a wonderful
Christmas and an enjoyable holiday and we look
forward to seeing you all again next year.

After many years at GPS, it’s time for us to say farewell! We would like to send a big, sincere thank you to all the past and present families and staff for the zillion memories we have from our 26 years at Gloucester Public School. We have seen a lot of changes along the way but the essence and core of our school has never changed. We have an amazing caring and supportive school community here at GPS – and maybe that’s why after saying we’d only be in Gloucester for five years, it has turned out to be 26 years! We are excited and look forward to our retirement but it’s also a little sad to be leaving something that has consumed so much of our life. As cliché as it sounds, you would have to search high and low to find a better school than Gloucester Public School anywhere. We know that we have been very lucky to have taught here. Our best wishes to everyone for a great Christmas and a wonderful holiday break. We hope that you stop and say hi to us if we pass each other down the street … or on the golf course … because we will miss you all very much! Cheerio from Mark and Debbie Howland. I have many treasured memorises of my teaching career. I have been very privileged with the fact that most of my time teaching has been at Gloucester Public School, a wonderful school. How fortunate am I! The students and staff may come and go, but the families all have a common belief and support for an excellent education for their children. Thank you staff, parents, carers and especially students, for helping to make my career as enjoyable as it has been.
I leave you with these words:
As children we thirst for knowledge,
We try to correct things that are wrong,
We shut out pain,
And we yearn for acceptance.
As teachers, we should educate with enthusiasm,
We should explain the rights from wrongs,
We should protect and sympathise,
We should praise and not condemn.
Find something special in each child
And nurture their learning
As if they were your own.
Not goodbye, but I’ll be seeing you. Margaret Wilson.
It’s been a privilege and a great pleasure for me to have the role of Learning and Support Teacher at our wonderful school. I was new to the role way back in 2009 and it was a steep learning curve for me at first. However, I’ve grown to love working with students who find it that bit more challenging to learn and have shared their joy and feelings of success when they’ve made a breakthrough- those special moments both big and small, when you can see a student taking off with their reading or maths or even being able to write a letter ‘w’ for the very first time. My job has been made so much easier and enjoyable by having such a quality group of dedicated executive staff, teachers, administration staff and SLSOs who always do their utmost to support the students. I want to thank you wholeheartedly for all that you do. Thank you also to the parents who have been happy to take time out of their busy lives to meet with me and talk about how we can support their children. That support and involvement has really made a difference. Last of all, thank you to all of the students of Gloucester Public School. You’re fantastic! I will really miss teaching you.

Canteen Update
Thank you to everyone who has supported the canteen this year.
The canteen will be open as normal for the first day of school next year – Monday 30 January.
Our current summer menu will carry on into Term 1. We have a shortage of lunch bags due to
Townsend Electrical changing their name to Laser Electrical. Hopefully new bags will be printed and
ready for the new school year.
A special thank you must go to all of our fantastic canteen volunteers. Without you we couldn’t
operate. If anyone else would like to join our fun bunch of helpers, you can call me on 0447 727 388.
Have a safe and happy holiday.
Lisa Norrie Canteen Supervisor
School Banking
Ho, Ho, Ho, it’s the last week of school banking. Thank you again, parents, carers and students who
have participated this year.
Congratulations to our most consistent savers: Christopher Bolton, Kate Bradbury, Ruby Bradbury,
Heidi Brenton and Tyler Hobbins. Please remember to collect your certificates this week in the
library.
We look forward to seeing you all in 2017.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.
Jane Richardson & Julie Clarke School Banking Coordinators.
