Important Message for Parents and Carers
Dear Parents and Carers,
The teachers of Globe Academy believe that Home Learning is an integral part of developing
every student and ensuring that they reach their academic potential.
Home Learning is important because it is point where school and home come together. It serves
as a window through which you can observe your children’s education and express positive
attitudes towards your children about their education and progress. As children grow older,
homework and the amount of time engaged in homework, increases in importance. For Globe
Academy staff, homework is an opportunity to provide additional academic instruction and further
extend your child’s learning.
The benefits of Home Learning for you and your child are as follows:
(1) Practice and participation in home learning tasks can improve your child’s achievement.
(2) When homework is completed accurately and to a good standard, not only will your child’s
general knowledge and grades improve but your child will also increase their mastery of
basic academic skills, such as reading, writing, spelling and mathematics, something
Globe Academy is committed to.
(3) Your child’s ability to bring an assignment home, gather and organise necessary materials
to complete the assignment, return the assignment and receive a level/grade, strengthens
his or her sense of personal responsibility for their learning.
(4) Time management skills are learned and developed.
(5) Further, when homework proceeds smoothly it can become (4) a positive aspect of your
relationship with your child.
(6) Home Learning offers schools an opportunity to let parents know what their children are
learning and keeps parents informed about work being studied and completed in class
time.
(7) Home Learning helps the Academy achieve their overall mission of improving your child’s
achievement.
(8) Homework is the bridge that joins schools and parents. For parents there is the potential to
gain a greater appreciation of your child’s education and achievement.
Globe Academy Home Learning Booklet “Climbing the Mountain to Success”
For these valid reasons we are asking that parents/carers work with us to ensure that your child
completes their homework.
Your child will receive a homework booklet for each subject and we ask that all parents/carers
ensure that the tasks in this booklet are completed on time and to a high standard. Together we
can improve your child’s progress and attainment.
Please sign below to confirm your agreement to support Globe Academy by checking and
ensuring your child completes their Home Learning Tasks each week. In addition please sign and
comment if necessary, the Homework Record sheets also in this booklet.
Thank you in advance for your support. Do not hesitate to contact me with any queries or
comments about Home Learning at Globe Academy.
Kind Regards
Ms. C. Fernandes

Teacher Top Tips for Home Learning
Success
1. Know the teachers — and what they're looking for. Ask questions
when the homework is set so you know exactly what is expected of you.. If
you need to use a computer ask the teacher and they will set up a time to
use the Mac Suite. Don’t be afraid to ask for extra help if you’re confused.
2. Set up a homework-friendly area. Make sure you have a well-lit place to
complete homework. Keep supplies — paper, pencils, glue, scissors —
within reach.
3. Schedule a regular study time. Some students work best in the
afternoon, following a snack and play period; others may prefer to wait until
after dinner.
4. Make a plan. On heavy homework nights or when there's an especially
hefty assignment to tackle, break up the work into manageable chunks.
Create a work schedule for the night if necessary — and take time for a 15-
minute break every hour, if possible.
5. Keep distractions to a minimum. This means no TV, loud music, or
phone calls. (Occasionally, though, a phone call to a classmate about an
assignment can be helpful.)
6. Make sure you do your own work. You won't learn if you don't think for
yourselves and make your own mistakes. Parents can make suggestions
and help with directions. But it's a kid's job to do the learning.
7. Share what you’ve learnt. When you’ve completed a challenging subject
or worked hard to produce the best work possible make sure you show it
someone you care about. You deserve to be proud of your hard work.
8. Set a good example. Help those around you learn by telling them what
time you’re planning to work and when you will complete all tasks. Don’t
listen to students who say they aren’t going to complete the work; this is
often what students say to try and impress others. Often the students
saying this have already completed the homework!

image they prefer to watch. Try to ask a wide range of people from different
age groups, backgrounds and if possible location.
Name of Audience Member
Demographics of Audience Member (Age/
Gender/ Location/ Occupation)
What types of moving images do they like to
watch?
Jack James
Jack is 18 years old, he lives in the City and works part-time at MacDonalds.
Jack enjoys watching Breaking Bad, Misfits, Music Videos (especially 50 Cent) and Eastenders.

Home Learning Task Two
Choose two adverts for different water products and one energy drink
product. Conduct research into how the advert is constructed.
The first one has been started for you.
1.
Evian Water
Character
Babies are used, this may be
because babies connote purity
and innocence. The director
wants to the water also to
appear pure.

Home Learning Task Three
Pick out five products of your choice and explain which
audience member you think it would appeal to in terms of
psychographic appeal.
Example.
I have chosen the product of Nike trainers. The product is clearly
aimed at aspirers as it is often endorsed by popular celebrities
such as Wayne Rooney and Ronaldo. These celebrities are
known for being football players and football is a very popular
sport. Aspirers follow trends like football and celebrities so they
are likely to want to be wearing something they see as popular.

Home Learning Task Five
Your teacher will give you a storyboard in class. You must plan every shot
for the advertisement you are producing.

Home Learning Task Six
Write a letter to Mr Jones asking permission to film your production in
Globe Academy.
You must explain to Mr Jones why/ when/ how you will be using the site
and assure him that it will not cause any problems to the running of the
school. Remember you must gain his permission or you can’t make the
film. So be persuasive!
Layout of a letter:
Your address must be on the top right hand side of the letter.
Then you must put Mr Jones address on the left hand side (use the
Globe address).
This is a professional letter so you must begin with ‘Dear Mr M.
Jones’ and end with ‘Regards’.
There is an example provided on the next page.
