1. Increase online license renewals.

2. Improve customer satisfaction by increasing the adoption of MyCitrix.com by international users.

3. Lower the costs for international operations—by reducing the number of calls to the international customer care centers and by improving the turnaround time for translations.

To achieve these goals, the Citrix IT department updated the back-end application code and the user-facing "look and feel" of MyCitrix.com, using Microsoft's .Net architecture. The update provided the means to deliver more information and services to partners. It also provided a better structure for efficient updates to the site.

Once the update was completed, the direction and landscape was set to expand beyond English into multiple languages. The final piece of the vision involved delivering these enhancements around the globe, in localized versions, to each of Citrix's international markets.

Citrix conducted an extensive search for a vendor that could internationalize its recent .NET enhancements and support the ongoing creation, translation, and publishing of its content into numerous languages. After identifying a variety of vendors, Citrix began researching each, and eventually narrowed the field to a handful. Throughout this process, Citrix focused on the following selection criteria:

provided the most extensive functionality for each member of the globalization team, including developers, authors, reviewers, translators, and the various operations and IT managers that would be involved with the project. And finally, Citrix felt that WorldServercould be easily integrated into the existing environment, which would enable them to reuse all of their existing content.

Leveraging an open J2EE-based architecture, WorldServer is a globalization management solution that can be easily integrated into any customer environment. It interfaces with content management systems, file systems, databases, version control solutions, and popular authoring tools. Once connected to existing content sources, WorldServer provides the workflow capabilities needed to share content with members of a globalization team. WorldServer also provides the automated translation technologies needed to localize content without having to remove it from its existing source.

After deciding to standardize on WorldServer, Citrix began its globalization initiative with an extensive requirements-gathering session at the world headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Idiom professional services team joined Citrix resources from North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Asia Pacific to determine the initial features and languages to be included in stage one of the MyCitrix.com globalization effort.

The vendor would need an experienced professional services group, and should have an extensive track record delivering multilingual Web services. Citrix also wanted to work with a vendor that could provide a detailed blueprint for implementing internationalized .NET components for an effective multilingual Web application, as this would provide the jumpstart needed to complete the project in the shortest amount of time. The solution would need to provide the capability to deliver fully localized versions of MyCitrix to various regions around the world simultaneously. And finally, the technology must enable international users to achieve a balance between corporate-contributed content and locally contributed content.

After completing an extensive evaluation, Citrix believed that Idiom's professional services organization possessed the skills and experience necessary to deliver an effective solution within a tight timeline. Citrix felt the Idiom WorldServer solution

taneously published in English, French, German, and Spanish. The key items to be translated included all of the corporate information on the home page, the corresponding navigation and menu systems of the site, and the applications supporting Citrix's software license activation, user registration, lead management, and fulfillment activities.

Once the scope of the project was determined, the Director of Web and Business Intelligence for Citrix, Trenton Cycholl, focused his attention on leveraging and extending Citrix's existing source control system, which was Microsoft's Visual Source Safe. According to Cycholl, "For the project to be successful, we needed to seamlessly connect WorldServer with Visual Source Safe, to access our existing content and create an automated process to localize it."

Using a standard set of out-of-the-box adaptors, and the SDK that ships withWorldServer, Idiom's professional services organization addressed the integration requirement in a simple and straightforward manner. This integration was significant for several reasons:

• First, it established the workflow that would enable content to move from creation, to translation, to publishing stages efficiently.

• Next, it enabled Citrix to keep its existing version control and its proprietary tools that developers use to move content among test, QA, and production servers. This was critical because the content in question was not just text files, but code and content for software applications that enable users to complete business transactions over the web.

• Finally, it enabled Citrix to reuse its existing content in a variety of print and Web-based formats, while also establishing a process where future content could be created once and published simultaneously in different languages around the globe.

According to Cycholl, "The integration between WorldServer and Visual Source Safe enabled users to leverage VSS' version control capabilities right from the WorldServer interface. WorldServer provides a workflow to check newly translated files in and out of source control, move them to QA, reconcile changes, and move translated content to production servers when appropriate. This has helped us dramatically reduce the amount of time it takes to create, translate, and deploy localized versions of MyCitrix applications.“

Citrix completed WorldServer implementation in just over 90 days. During that time, Idiom implemented a test and production instance of WorldServer, created a variety of workflows to meet Citrix requirements, and

populated a centralized Translation Memory (TM) database. The TM enables translators to reuse previous translations, focus on new or edited content, and dramatically shorten the translation process. As part of this process, Idiom consolidated a variety of individual TM databases, once used by disconnected, in-country translators, into a larger shared database that enabled everyone to leverage historical and cross-product translation matches.

Finally, Idiom trained the remote users: developers, engineers, authors, editors, project managers, and translators who would access the system remotely to perform their respective tasks. After the initial training by Idiom, Citrix's own WorldServer administrators have been able to deliver training to all new members using the WorldServer software.

To date, Citrix has rolled out localized versions of MyCitrix.com into German, Spanish, and French.

Again quoting Cycholl, "Automating our translation and localization processes with WorldServer has enabled us to improve the quality and quantity of the MyCitrix content, which has directly increased the adoption of our online licensing applications. In the first week, more than 15% of our new users selected locales other than English, and since then, we've continued to see significant increases in local language registrations."
