Majors Brad & Anita Caldwell served in the Republic of Georgia. Can you name any others who have served there from the South?

FROM THE MOUNTAIN S TO THE BLACK SEA Brad and Anita Caldwell served in the Eastern Europe Territory which includes Moldova, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and the Republic of Georgia (on which this report is based). They lived in Moldova, Russia and the Republic of Georgia during their twelve years of overseas service as well as eight months at IHQ, London.

Brad mentioned the lack of one Corps building and two corps quarters which are desperately needed; all places are poor, but the officers are resourceful. On a piece of Army property, tents were set up where summer camps are held. They saw the number of Junior Soldiers reach as high as a hundred.

An Advisory Board was established, and they set up the first Thrift Store which is now operating, and two more are in the planning stages.

Spiritual Life development was quite successful. They found their converts eager to learn and grow in the Lord. The Orthodox Church, however, opposes the Army and can sometimes be a problem.

“From the mountains to the Black Sea”, says Brad, “we loved serving in that lovely land.”

He also mentioned how thankful they were for the prayers of folk back home. “We could not have done it without them.”

Majors Caldwell are presently the Regional Coordinators in Waco, Texas

ANSWER TO TRIVIA QUESTION:

Captain Maureen Diffley (2011-14), Curtis Elliott, Major Bobby and Captain Anne Westmoreland (2010).

Ships of Mercy, (published by Mercy Ships, Lindale, TX, 2012) is the story of a visión of Don Stephens come to life in the development of one, then many, hospital ships visiting the poorest countries around the world, offering state-of-the-art facilities and the best of medical and surgical personnel to everyone without cost to the patients.Inspired by the story of the SS Hope and a visit with Mother Teresa, Stephens’ missionary ministry with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) led to the founding and decades of leadership of the movement eventually called Mercy Ships.Countless lives are still being rescued, bodies healed, and social lives improved through the volunteer dedication of the very best doctors, surgeons, dentists, nurses, business administrators, and donors who sponsor the ministry. This type of mission works with local governments, health departments, civic groups, and churches in ports all over the world. The Salvation Army in many third world countries has participated.

PRAYER CONCERNS: After you pray, why not drop the person or persons prayed for a line or send an email of encouragement and blessing.

Please Pray For:

MAJORS DAN & ALBA FORD (BRAZIL) Divisional Leaders in Rio de Janeiro. Health issues that Alba is facing. Pray that the correct treatment will be found for her full recovery. Sports Ministry in the corps during Summer Olympics as well as a campaign against Human Trafficking. Also remember their son Dylan (now 15) and daughter Ariel (20). [email protected]. COLONELS ALLAN & FIONA HOFER (SWITZERLAND, AUSTRIA & HUNGARY TERR) As Chief Secretary and Territorial Sec. for Women’s Ministries. The Army in Switzerland cares for over 2500 refugees and helps to integrate them into society. Another challenge is the issue of euthanasia (letting older people die rather than help them and prolong their lives.) It is already mandated in 2 states where the Army has Homes for the Elderly. Pray for guidance and wisdom in these situations. [email protected] WILLIS & BARBARA HOWELL (NEW ZEALAND, FIJI & TONGA TERR.) As Chief Secretary and Territorial Sec. for Women’s Ministries. Please pray for the ongoing relief efforts in Fiji. More candidates are needed and the officers who serve so faithfully, need encouragement. They would also like for their mothers who are 90+, in good health and live in Florida, to be remembered. [email protected]. COLS. KELLY & DONNA IGLEHEART (SOUTH AFRICA) As Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries. Racism is always close to the surface and is a matter of constant concern. Pray for the Genslers from the USA Eastern Territory who have been waiting for work permits for over 8 months to take up their appointment as Business Administrator. Remember also Candidates and the territory’s leap of faith to begin a 2nd session [email protected]. ASHISH & CAPTAIN SANDRA PAWAR (UK) As Corps Officers at the Southwark Corps in a multicultural community in the London Central Division. Pray for the spiritual growth of their congregation and a greater vision of ministry to include children and youth. Remember Sandra as she endeavors to bring awareness to social evils. Also don’t forget their daughters, Priya Grace (now 5) and Alina Rose (2). [email protected] KEN & NEVA PHIOUTHONG (THAILAND) as Resource and Development Officers, They are working with a law firm to get the Army registered as a foundation. They continue to build relationships through ministry with school children, prisoners, hospital visitation and HIV programs, as well as reaching out to Buddhists. Also remember their son Neville (15) who is doing well in school and learning to speak Thai. [email protected]. CHRISTOPHER & JESSICA WELCH (ITALY & GREECE) as Corps Officers of the Torre Pellice Corps, Italy. Pray that their congregation will be strengthened in their faith and that the corps will grow in number as well as receive the financial support needed. Pray for their new baby on the way and for their soon to be 2 year old son, Lian Matteo (April 14). [email protected] DIETER & BARBARA ZIMMERER (SPAIN) as Corps Officers of the Denia Corps and Directors of Camp Sharon Conference Center. Pray for their financial situation which leaves them overwhelmed with a feeling of helplessness as well as the physical demands of their appointment. More groups are needed to rent the camp. Remember daughter Christina (16). [email protected] PAMM MCKEE (LIBERIA) Pray for her as she returns and that God will continue to bless His work there. Anyone wishing to give financial support please contact her to get details. [email protected]

We would like to recommend also that you pray from time to time for those others who are serving out of the Territory. They are not on “foreign” service but sometimes they can feel like it!
