But at the same time- - - - - Indian

• farmers continue committing suicides

• children still die of malnutrition

• villages experience acute water shortage

• rampant power shortages

• cities are becoming garbage dumps

• roads are in utter chaos

And Indian population is estimated to reach close to

170 Cr by the year 2051.

It is a fact that 21st century belongs to Asia. And with It is a fact that 21st century belongs to Asia. And with all the Paradoxes that we saw in previous slides,all the Paradoxes that we saw in previous slides,

Hence, on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of statehood of Maharashtra, Dr Anil Kakodkar, Dr Vasant Gowariker, Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, Dr Vijay Bhatkar, Dr Yeshwant Waghmare and many more eminent scientists co created a movement called Global Indian Scientists & Technocrats Convention GIST.


Socio Economic solutions have limitations in providing sustainable results, however “Science and Technology led solutions can provide sustainable breakthroughs and bring in Paradigm shift.



The Indian Diaspora has done exemplary work at international levels. It is Imperative to leverage this expertise to innovate sustainable solutions tailored for the specific Indian needs.

The coming together of the brightest Indian brains holds the promise for a brighter tomorrow.


Only GIST can provide such opportunity.

GIST is a major initiative planned to provide a platform to the Global Indian Diaspora together with the local Scientists and Technocrats fraternity to contribute to the development of India using Science & Technology route for its sustainable and inclusive growth. The idea is also to capture the untapped potential of NRI scientists of repute for India’s development. GIST will offer a platform for the integration of Indian and global Indian S&T Community.

Established in 1982 as a Swadeshi Science Movement under the leadership of Prof. K I Vasu in Bangalore.

The mission is “Swadeshi Movement with modern sciences adapted to national needs”

Dr. Vijay Bhatkar is National President.

Today Vijnana Bharati has spread its wings in 20 states and has 28 operating units.Maharashtra has four units in Mumbai, Pune & Nagpur & Aurangabad.

Maharashtra Education Society (MES), one of the oldest educational institutes in Maharashtra is completing its 150 years of formation and hence is celebrating the post centenary Golden Jubilee celebrations.

They have 38 schools and colleges in Maharashtra and have more than 40,000 students studying.
