Wichita is the largest city in the U.S. state of Kansas and the 49th-largest city in the United States. Located in south-

central Kansas on the Arkansas River, Wichita is the county seat of Sedgwick County and the principal city of the

Wichita metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city population was 382,368; as of 2012, it was

estimated to have increased to 385,577. In 2012, the estimated population of the Wichita metropolitan area was

636,105, and that of the larger Wichita-Winfield combined statistical area was 672,393. Founded in 1863 and

incorporated in 1870, the city began as a trading post on the Chisholm Trail. It subsequently became a key

destination for cattle drives traveling north from Texas to access railroads. In the 1920s and 1930s, businessmen and

aeronautical engineers established a number of successful aircraft manufacturing companies in Wichita including,

among others, Beechcraft, Cessna, and Stearman Aircraft. The city transformed into a hub of U.S. aircraft production

and became known as "The Air Capital of the World". Beechcraft, Cessna, and other firms including Boeing,

Learjet, and Spirit AeroSystems continue to operate factories in Wichita today, and the city remains a major center

    of the U.S. aircraft industry.

As an industrial hub and the largest city in the state,

Wichita is an area center of culture, media, and trade. It

hosts several large museums, theatres, parks, and

entertainment venues, notably Intrust Bank Arena.

Several universities are located in the city including

Wichita State University, the third largest in the state. The

city's daily newspaper, The Wichita Eagle, has the highest

circulation of any newspaper in Kansas, and the Wichita

broadcast television market includes the western two-

    thirds of the state.

Wichita is also home to two large shopping centers,

Towne East Square and Towne West Square, as well as

the Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center and

Kansas's largest airport, Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.

  • Page 3 – Wichita, Kansas – Air Capital of the World

The city experienced a population explosion during World War II when it became a major manufacturing center for

the Boeing B-29 bombers needed in the war effort. By 1945, an average of 4.2 bombers was being produced daily in

Wichita. For many years Boeing was Wichita's largest employer. Wichita saw some of its fastest population growth

of the 20th century during the peak of the Cold War when Wichita was the headquarters for the Boeing Military

Airplane Company and home to the McConnell Air Force Base. BoMAC produced all Boeing B-47 Stratojet aircraft

and many Boeing B-52 Stratofortresses in Wichita. At various times McConnell Air Force Base hosted the 381st

Strategic Missile Wing that controlled various LGM-25C Titan II missile silos around Wichita, the 388th Tactical

Fighter Wing, 23d Tactical Fighter Wing, 91st Air Refueling Squadron, 384th Air Refueling Wing/Bombardment

Wing, and the Kansas Air National Guard 184th Tactical Fighter Training Group. Wichita's mid-continental location

made it ideal for basing strategic assets, allowing maximum time to react to a Soviet missile attack launched over the

North Pole or from ocean going submarines.

    In 1962, the Lear Jet

    Corporation was established.

    On February 7, 1963,

    assembly of the first Learjet

    aircraft began and In 1990

    Canadian firm Bombardier

    Aerospace purchased Learjet

    Corporation. In the late 1980s

    two Boeing 747s were

    modified at Boeing-Wichita to

serve as Air Force One. In

    2012, Boeing announced plans

    to shut down its Wichita

    facilities in the face of

    Pentagon budget cuts.

    However, the city remains a

    major manufacturing center

    for the aircraft industry today,

    with Beechcraft, Bombardier,

    Cessna, and even Airbus with

    major manufacturing centers

    in town.

A number of famous people are from Wichita. Actress Kirstie Alley is known for her role in the TV show Cheers, in

which she played Rebecca Howe from 1987 to 1993. Actor Don Johnson of Miami Vice and Nash Bridges fame along

with various other television and movie roles, moved to Wichita from Missouri with his family when he was six.

Oscar winning actress and star of Gone with the Wind, Hattie McDaniel, was born in Wichita. Wyatt Earp served as a

lawman in several Western frontier towns, including Wichita. He is most well-known for his part in the Gunfight at

the O.K. Corral during which three outlaw Cowboys were killed. The 30-second gunfight defined the rest of his life.

Earp's modern-day reputation is that of the Old West's "toughest and deadliest gunman of his day." Wichita has also

produced many notable athletes including Pro Football Hall of Fame running backs Gale Sayers and Barry Sanders,

Olympic athlete and Congressman Jim Ryun, and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Lynette Woodard.

Wichita has developed a positive reputation in U.S. media as an

affordable and pleasant place to live. In July 2006, CNN/Money

and Money magazine ranked Wichita 9th on its list of the 10 best

U.S. big cities in which to live. In 2008, MSN Real Estate ranked

Wichita 1st on its list of most affordable cities. Wichita was also

named most "Uniquely American" city by Newsmax Magazine.

Wichita is mentioned in the songs "Wichita Skyline" by Shawn

Colvin, and Glen Campbell's Wichita Lineman which peaked at #1

on Billboard's country singles chart and at #3 on the pop chart in

    1968.

The award-winning stage play Hospitality Suite written by Roger

Rueff takes place in Wichita. The film adaptation of the play, titled

The Big Kahuna, is also set in the city. The 2005 movie The Ice

Harvest is set in Wichita. In the 1987 movie Planes Trains and

Automobiles, a Chicago bound flight is diverted to Wichita because

of bad weather. AMD planned to release a new processor, code

named Wichita, in 2012, but the project was cancelled in favor of a

    newer design.

  • Page 5 – Caracas, Venezuela – City of Red-Tiled Roofs

Caracas, officially Santiago de León de Caracas, is the capital and largest city of Venezuela; natives or residents are

known as Caraquenians in English. Caracas is located in the northern part of the country, following the contours of

the narrow Caracas Valley on the Venezuelan coastal mountain range (Cordillera de la Costa). Terrain suitable for

building lies between 2,490 and 2,990 ft. above sea level. The valley is close to the Caribbean Sea, separated from the

coast by a steep 7,200 ft. high mountain range, Cerro El Ávila; to the south there are more hills and mountains. El

Distrito Metropolitano de Caracas (Metropolitan District of Caracas) includes the Distrito Capital and four other

municipalities in Miranda State: Chacao, Baruta, Sucre, and El Hatillo. The Distrito Capital had a population of

1,943,901 as of 2011, while that of Area Metropolitana de Caracas was estimated at 3,055,000 as of (2013).

At the time of the founding of the city, more

than four hundred years ago, the valley of

Caracas was populated by indigenous peoples.

On 25 July 1567, Captain Diego de Losada laid

the foundations of the city of Santiago de León

de Caracas. The foundation −1567 – “I take

possession of this land in the name of God and

the King” These were the words of Don Diego

de Losada in founding the city of Caracas on 25

July 1567. In 1577 Caracas became the capital of

the Spanish Empire's Venezuela Province under

Governor Juan de Pimentel (1576–1583). During

the 17th century, the coast of Venezuela was

frequently raided by pirates. With the coastal

mountains as a barrier, Caracas was relatively

immune to such attacks – one of the reasons it

    became the principal city.

  • Page 6 – Caracas, Venezuela – City of Red-Tiled Roofs

Under the Köppen climate classification, Caracas has a Tropical savanna climate. Caracas is also intertropical, with

precipitation that varies between 35–51 in annual, in the city proper, and up to 79 in in some parts of the Mountain

range. While Caracas is within the tropics, due to its altitude temperatures are generally not nearly as high as other

tropical locations at sea level. The annual average temperature is approximately 75 °F, with the average of the coldest

month (January) 73 °F and the average of the warmest month (July) 77 °F, which gives a small annual thermal

amplitude of 4.0 °F. In the months of December and January abundant fog may appear, in addition to a sudden nightly

drop in temperature, until reaching 46 °F. This peculiar weather is known by the natives of Caracas as the Pacheco. In

addition, nightly temperatures at any time of the year are much lower than daytime highs and usually do not remain

above 75 °F, resulting in very pleasant evening temperatures. Hail storms appear in Caracas, although only on rare

occasions. Electrical storms are much more frequent, especially between June and October, due to the city being in a

closed valley and the orographic action of Cerro El Ávila.

Venezuela and its capital, Caracas, are

reported to both have among the highest per

capita murder rates in the world. Most

murders and other violent crimes go

    unsolved. The poor neighborhoods that

cover the hills around Caracas are

dangerous at all times. More recent

    research, however, has called these

    purportedly astronomic crime rates into

    question. For years, the government

    misreported the actual population of

    Caracas, consistently skewing crime figures

higher. In 2012, Caracas was considered

the 3rd most dangerous city in the world by

the Citizen Security Council, Justice and

Peace, with a murder rate of 119 homicides

per 100.000 people and the situation,

especially in its capital is getting worse.

  • Page 7 – Caracas, Venezuela – City of Red-Tiled Roofs

Businesses that are located here include service companies, banks, and malls, among others. Most economic activity

is in services, except some industries established in its metropolitan area. The Caracas Stock Exchange and Petróleos

de Venezuela (PDVSA) are headquartered here. The PDVSA is the largest company in Venezuela, and negotiates all

the international agreements for the distribution and export of petroleum. When the company existed, the airline

Viasa had its headquarters in the Torre Viasa. Caracas' central business district is Milla de Oro, which is located in

the north of the Baruta municipality and the south of the Chacao municipality, it is one of largest financial districts of

Latin America, it is home to many companies and is dominated by numerous high-rises. Other important business

districts include Plaza Venezuela, Parque Central Complex and El Recreo. Small and medium-size industry

contributes to the Caracas economy. The city provides communication and transportation infrastructure between the

metropolitan area and the rest of the country. Important industries in Caracas include chemicals, textiles, leather,

food, iron and wood products. There are also rubber and cement factories. Its GDP (Nominal) is 69 billion $ and the

GDP (PPP) per Capita is 24.000$

A 2009 United Nations survey reported that the cost

of living in Caracas was 89% of that of its baseline

city: New York. However, this statistic is based upon

a fixed currency-exchange-rate of 2003 and might not

be completely realistic, due to the elevated inflation

rates of the last several years.

Caracas has five municipalities: Baruta, El Hatillo,

Chacao, Libertador and Sucre. The constitution of

Venezuela specifies that municipal governments be

divided into executive and legislative branches. The

executive government of the municipality is governed

by the mayor, while the legislative government is

managed by the Municipal council. In 8 March 2000,

the year after a new constitution was introduced in

    Venezuela,

Big News/Announcement – Global Lines is pleased to announce that we are now in the final stages of a contract to

buy the Airbus A350-900 to add to our fleet. “We can look forward to seeing a new bird in the family within the next

month or two” was announced by our CEO James “Mick” Taylor together with Chief Pilot Bill Dawson who has

been test flying the aircraft in France where the aircraft is put together. We are close to a deal to acquire 20 brand

new A350-900 XWB aircraft with an option on another 50. These extra wide body aircraft will be used for long haul

international flights in our system and offer some of the newest and coolest technologies offered today.

Recently heard on a Global Express Airways Flight from San Francisco to Seattle while showing the use of the

oxygen mask: "If you are seated next to a child or someone acting like one, please assist them in putting on the

    breathing apparatus.

A flight attendant said this as the door was opened: "OK, now I'm going to tell you exactly what my Mama told me

on my 18th birthday. GET OUTTA HERE."

"Hello everyone, we have a first time flyer on board today - and it is also their 50th birthday!" After everybody

cheers, the flight attendant continues, "Will everyone please wish the captain a Happy Birthday!?"

The pilot dropped out of the fog at Spokane Washington and discovered he was half way down the runway and

slammed the plane down onto the ground. The flight attendant announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, we just dropped

    into Spokane."

"Welcome to Las Vegas, Nevada. We'd like to thank you for flying with us, and on behalf of the flight deck we'd also

like to extend a very special and very happy 101st Birthday to a gentleman seated near the front of the aircraft."

*scattered applause* "So, if you happen to see the Captain on the way out, mind his walker, shake his hand, and wish

him well with another 100 years working here at Global Air International."

"If you smoke, please wait until you arrive at a designated smoking area to light up, which here in California would

    be outside."

"Please use caution when opening the overhead compartments as shift happens!"

From another employee: "There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane."

After landing: "Thank you for flying Global Express.” We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we

enjoyed taking you for a ride."

As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Washington National, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker:

    "Whoa, big fella. Whoa!"

After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant announced: "Please take care

when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted."

From a Global Air employee: "Welcome aboard. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and

pull tight. It works just like every other seatbelt and if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be

out in public unsupervised. In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will descend from the

ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child traveling with you, secure

your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with two small children, decide now which one you love

    more."

"Your seat cushions can be used for flotation. In the event of an emergency water landing, please take them with our

compliments and as you exit the plane, please make sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will

be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses."

  • Page 9 – Introducing the Boeing B737-900ER

The Boeing 737 Next Generation, commonly abbreviated as Boeing 737NG, is the name given to the −600/-700/-

800/-900 series of the Boeing 737 aircraft. It is the third generation derivative of the 737, and follows the 737 Classic

(−300/-400/-500) series, which began production in the 1980s. They are short- to medium-range, narrow-body jet

airliners. Produced since 1996 by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the 737NG series includes 4 variations and can seat

between 110 to 210 passengers. A total of 4,472 737NG aircraft have been delivered by the end of May 2013, with

more than 6,300 ordered. Currently, only the -700, -800, and -900ER are produced, as the -600 was not popular. Its

primary competition is with the Airbus A320 family. Upgraded and re-engined models in development as the 737

MAX series will eventually supplant the 737NG.

In terms of the passenger cabin, the interior on the 737 Next Generation improved on the previous style interior used

on the Boeing 757-200 and the Boeing 737 Classic by incorporating select features of the 777-style interior, most

noticeably larger, more rounded overhead bins and curved ceiling panels. The interior of the 737 Next Generation

also became the standard interior on the Boeing 757-300, and subsequently became optional on the 757-200. In 2010,

the interior of the 737 Next Generation was updated to look similar to that of the Boeing 787. Known as the Boeing

Sky Interior, it introduces new pivoting overhead bins (a first for a Boeing narrow body aircraft), new sidewalls, new

    passenger service units, and LED mood lighting. The Sky Interior cannot be retrofitted onto existing aircraft;

however, similar aftermarket packages to simulate the look of the Sky Interior, including similar pivoting overhead

bins for existing 737 and 757 aircraft are available from components provider Heath Tecna.

Since 2006, Boeing has discussed replacing the 737 with a "clean sheet" design (internally named "Boeing Y1") that

could follow the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. A decision on this replacement was postponed, and delayed into 2011.

On July 20, 2011, Boeing announced plans for a new 737 version to be powered by the CFM International LEAP-X

engine, with Global Lines intending to order 100 of these aircraft. Internally, a minimum change version of the Leap-

X is the probable final configuration for the proposed re-engined 737, and is expected to give a 10–12% improvement

in fuel burn. A service entry in 2016 or 2017 is expected, with the new models probably being designated 737-7/-8/-

9, being based on the 737-700/-800/-900ER respectively.

On August 30, 2011, Boeing confirmed the launch of the 737 new engine variant, called the 737 MAX, with 496

order commitments from five airlines. Its new CFM International LEAP-1B engines are expected to provide a 16%

lower fuel burn than the current Airbus A320. The 737 MAX is to compete with the Airbus A320neo

  • Page 10 – Introducing the Boeing B737-900ER

Boeing later introduced the 737-900, the longest variant to date. Because the −900 retains the same exit configuration

of the −800, seating capacity is limited to 177 seats in two classes, or 189 in a single-class layout. Alaska Airlines

launched the 737-900 in 1997 and accepted delivery on May 15, 2001. The 737-900 also retains the MTOW and fuel

capacity of the −800, trading range for payload. These shortcomings until recently prevented the 737-900 from

effectively competing with the Airbus A321.

The 737-900ER (ER for extended range), which was called the 737-900X prior to launch, is the newest addition and

the largest variant of the Boeing 737 line and was introduced to meet the range and passenger capacity of the

discontinued 757-200 and to directly compete with the Airbus A321. An additional pair of exit doors and a flat rear

pressure bulkhead increase seating capacity to 180 passengers in a 2-class configuration or 215 passengers in a single-

class layout. Additional fuel capacity and standard winglets improve range to that of other 737NG variants.

The first 737-900ER was rolled out of the Renton, Washington factory on August 8, 2006 for its launch customer,

Global Express Airways who received this aircraft on April 27, 2007. Global Express and Global Air has orders for

    166 737-900ERs as of August 2011.

On August 22, 2011, it was reported that Delta Air Lines had placed an order for 100 737-900Ers and a total of 52 -

900s, 162 -900ERs, and 6 -900 BBJs have been delivered with 366 unfilled orders for the -900ER and one unfilled

order for the -900 BBJ as of March 2013.

In July 2008, Boeing offered Messier-Bugatti-Dowty's new carbon brakes for the Next-Gen 737s, which are intended

to replace steel brakes and will reduce the weight of the brake package by 550–700 pounds (250–320 kg) depending

on whether standard or high-capacity steel brakes were fitted. A weight reduction of 700 pounds (320 kg) on a

Boeing 737-800 results in 0.5% reduction in fuel burn. Global Air International received the first Next-Gen 737

model with this brake package, a 737-700, at the end of July 2008.

In 2004, Boeing offered a Short Field Performance package in response to the needs of Gol Transportes Aéreos, who

frequently operate from restricted airports. The enhancements improve takeoff and landing performance. The optional

package is available for the 737NG models and standard equipment for the 737-900ER.

Kelly Brianne Clarkson is an American singer, songwriter,

and occasional actress. In 2002, she came to prominence after

winning the first season of American Idol, and has since been

established as "The Original American Idol". Her debut

single, "A Moment Like This", topped the US Billboard Hot

100 and broke the record for the biggest jump to number one

in the chart's history. Clarkson's debut studio album has been

certified 2x platinum and sold over 4.5 million copies. Its

lead single, "Miss Independent", became an international hit,

earning Clarkson her first Grammy nomination. Her second

album, Breakaway was certified 6x platinum and sold over

12 million copies worldwide, earning Clarkson two Grammy

Awards, including one for the hit single, "Since U Been

Gone". Her third album, My December became a top ten hit

and her fourth album became a critical and commercial

success. Her fifth album, Stronger (2011), generated

international chart-topping singles "Mr. Know It All" and

"Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)", with the latter being the

second-best selling American Idol single to date with over

four million downloads in the U.S. The album won the

Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album, making Clarkson

the first and only artist to win the award twice. In 2012,

Clarkson released Greatest Hits: Chapter One; its lead single,

"Catch My Breath", is her twenty-fourth entry on the Hot 100

    and her eleventh million-selling single.

formed with his brothers Joe and Kevin. The Jonas Brothers

originally started as an attempted solo singing career for

Nick, but the record producer liked the sound when his

brothers sang backup for him. Nick previously starred in the

Disney Channel original series JONAS L.A. as Nick Lucas,

alongside his brothers. He also starred in the Disney Channel

original movie Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.

He formed the band Nick Jonas & The Administration, which

released its first album in 2010. Jonas embarked on the Who I

Am Tour with the Administration. The tour consisted of 22

dates that began on January 2, 2010, in Dallas, Texas and

concluded on January 30, 2010, in Berkeley, California.

Jonas also toured with his brothers again in 2010. In

September 2011 and October 2011, Nick Jonas & The

Administration began touring through South America in

support of their debut album, Who I Am. On June 21, 2010,

Jonas made his West End debut performing in Les Misérables

for the second time, but this time as the role of Marius

Pontmercy. Jonas was originally supposed to play the role for

only three weeks, but was able to extend his run until July 24,

2010, because of changes in the Jonas Brothers tour schedule.

He also appeared in the 25th Anniversary Concert at The O2

Arena on October 3, 2010, again playing the role of Marius

Pontmercy. From August 5–7, 2011, Jonas performed in the

musical Hairspray as Link Larkin at the Hollywood Bowl.

    FROM THE FRONT DESK

    October, 2013

Greetings again from the front desk.

After several long months of trial flights in both FS9 and FSX, we are pleased to announce that within the next month,

or so, we will be adding a new aircraft to the Global Air International fleet! Chief Pilot Bill Dawson has been flying

the FS9 version while yours truly has been test flying the FSX version of the Airbus 350-900 XWB aircraft.

Unfortunately, the author or the aircraft model decided that he could not do a single version that would work on both

FSX and FS9 so we got both versions and both will be available for download in the Global Air International’s Pilot’s

lounge soon. An announcement will be made when it is available and soon after that you will also start to see it show

up on the flight schedules. This new model includes ground animations so make sure and look at the readme file

before installing so that you can take advantage of all of the cool new features of this aircraft.

We are also pleased to announce that the local on-line newspaper version of the Kenyan press newspaper used one of

our pictures from the Global Express Airways web site and gave us photo cre4dits for it as well as a link to our web

site. The web masters report increased interest from that African nation on our web site due to the link so who knows,

we may soon have some new Pilots from the area as well.

This month we also start in to some of the final stages of designing the next 2X event for Global Line’s Pilots so we

can all look forward to more information on the event which is tentatively scheduled for mid-November through mid-

December. We look forward to some exciting new destinations and the opportunity to earn double flight hour credit

    for our Pilots.

September marked the third year of this magazines publication! My how time flies when you are flying in the clouds

huh? As always, our editors are always looking forward to hearing from you and are willing to include articles written

by you on almost any subject as long as it is flying and/or company related. If you have any ideas just drop them and

email at editor @ the respective airline.com thanks!

Until the next time……… Safe Flight Always!

    Sincerely,

James “Mick” Taylor James “Mick” Taylor - GL-0004
