WELCOME TO gLION
The World Travel and Tourism Council estimates that by
the year 2020, the hotel and tourism industry will generate
303 million jobs, which will account for approximately one
in every eleven jobs worldwide. In light of such encouraging
forecasts, education in the hotel, tourism, event, sport, and
entertainment industries must concentrate on providing
management training of the highest standards of quality.
But it must also provide an essential added value – the subtle
combination of expertise, style, and confidence that comes
with professional and personal development.
This is what glion Institute of Higher Education has been
doing since 1962 with all the vigor, excellence, and capacity
for hospitality that have characterized Switzerland for
generations. Our success has spread the reputation of our
institute around the world. To attract the very best students,
who will become the top-performing professionals of the
future, requires flexibility, independence, and a constant
focus on innovation in education, as well as the ability to
anticipate and adapt to this constantly changing industry.
This explains why future leaders and decision makers are
often educated at glion Institute of Higher Education.
By choosing glion, you will join an institution led by a
team of passionate educators committed to developing
the leaders of tomorrow. You will also join a team of
enthusiastic students dedicated to becoming successful

“I chose glion for the diversity and multicultural
environment. The class sizes are small enough
to ensure a close working relationship with both
teachers and students. Lessons are engaging and the
teachers have great knowledge of the industry from
good education and relevant working experience.
Through my internship at Hotel Arts in Barcelona,
I was not only exposed to all the aspects of hotel
operations but made contacts and friends for life.”

Operational practice
glion builds your management and leadership skills. An
important part of our approach is craft-based learning in
hospitality or in event, sport and entertainment-related classes.
Craft-based learning primary objectives:
• give the flavor of the industry through short
practice times.
• Help students develop a broad range of skills
including communication, working under pressure,
organization, leadership and work ethos.
All of this is achieved under the direct supervision of
highly experienced professional instructors. Students in
the hospitality program will prepare meals in kitchens on
the glion campus, and serve in the five restaurants: the
fast- and efficient-service Café viennois and Restaurant
Bellevue; the brasserie-style La Résidence; the beautiful
formal dining room at Hôtel des Alpes; and The Club,
serving light food, drinks, and snacks. Students in the event,
sport and entertainment program will be involved in the
supervision of the fitness center, sports hall, and sports
clubs, as well as the organization of a range of entertainment,
sport, and cultural events. The technical aspects will be
taught in the specially designed entertainment studies
classroom, the fitness center, and sports hall.

glion is the school of life. glion gave me the high-level foundations of operational,
analytical, and management skills and knowledge that are needed, relied upon, and further
enhanced in the professional career. Moreover, by going to glion I have learned how to
approach and how to learn and adapt to the ongoing evolutions in today’s ever-changing
work environment, giving me a high-end competitive advantage in comparison to other
working professionals in the industry. By enjoying the multicultural diversity of glion,
not only have I learned about other cultures and traditions, but also made great friends
and connections throughout the globe. There is barely anywhere in the world where
I could not meet a familiar face or get to know someone through the glion network I
have developed. glion is the place to go, in order to gain experience!
LAURA NATAL VILLAzALA – SpAIN – MbA GRADUATE 2006
Human Resources Manager, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Europe, Africa, and Middle East
Some of the reasons why I chose glion to study for my MBA were its complete program
and its faculty. In line with my expectations, the school proved that the lecturers really
do know the hospitality industry. The classes were a combination of real case studies,
active discussions, and theory, which has allowed me to be more resourceful in my
professional life. Additionally, being part of a very international group enriched every
group research project and presentation. Overall, life at glion was a fantastic experience
not only professionally but also personally.

and hands-on learning, which takes place in an

succeeding in the world of hospitality.”
