Music ProgramsGlenview offers a varietyof music programs.Students can choose tocontinue to play theirband or stringsinstruments to fine tunetheir skills acquired fromjunior schools. We alsooffer a beginning bandand a beginning stringprogram for studentswho wish to learn to playan instrument. AGeneral Music programis offered to studentswho do not play aninstrument.  Studentshave a chance todemonstrate theirtalents during ourHoliday and SpringConcerts.  They alsoparticipate in differentmusic festivals and canattend Music Camp inthe spring.

Glenview Senior Public School opened its doors  in 1966 and islocated at Avenue Road and Lawrence Ave.  It is a triple-trackschool (English, French Immersion, Extended French) with 777grade 7 & 8 students. Technology is an integral part of learningand allows our students to acquire the necessary skills to become21st century learners. Glenview offers Special Educationprograms that include Resource Support and Home SchoolProgram.  Students are engaged in a variety of general arts andtechnology programs (Band, Strings, General Music, Visual Arts,Dance, Drama, Family Studies, Design & Technology). We alsoexcel in providing an exceptional physical education program that includes Aquatics and many sports teams.

Technology ProgramsWith student engagement at theforefront of learning, we strive toprovide opportunites for students tobe involved in the learning process atall times. Glenview provides arotation of hands-on programs inwell-equipped facilities. Our school isequiped with mini iPads, wireless laptops, Smartboards and afully functional lab. In addition to Information Technology studentsparticipate in the sewing and cooking activities offered in FamilyStudies (addressing practical skills of everyday life) and learnbasic design and construction techniques in Design andTechnology (wood shop).

Character EducationEvery month, students from each registration class are recognizedby their peers and staff for demonstrating specific attributes relatedto the TDSB's ten Character Traits.  These might include gooddeeds performed in class or around the school.  An assembly isheld to recognize the accomplishments of the students for theirgood character.

Performing Arts FestivalEvery year, students at Glenview are invited to participate inour annual Performing Arts Festival. All students are welcome toshowcase their talent. We have dancing, singing, comedy,acrobatics, magic, instruments, impressions and more! Theauditions start in November. Students have a unique opportunity toshare talents that we would not otherwise know about.

Social JusticeFor many years now, students and staff at Glenview are workinghard to create a society that is based on the principles of equalityand solidarity, a society that understands and values human rights. Glenview has established an environmental club that participates ina variety of community outreach programs to support our neighbors,our global community and our school. 

Transitions from grade 6 to 7 and 8 to 9Glenview works closely with our junior feeder schools and localsecondary schools to ensure a smooth and successful transition forour students.  Our Guidance Counsellor works with studentambassadors to welcome our grade 6 feeder schools.  Grade 8students visit secondary schools prior to making a final decision fortheir grade 9 placement.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Glenview students enjoy a number of interesting, curriculumrelated field trips to reinforce learning. Our numerous sportsopportunities compel students to relate as team membersand compete with good sportsmanship while practicingresponsibility and commitment. Our various student clubsoffer something for everyone from the Animanga and Gamesclub to the Robotics club. Every year our grade 8 studentshave an opportunity to experience overnight field trips. Thisis very rewarding and students gain great insight from thesetrips. They include numerous trips to Quebec City,Huntsman (New Brunswick) and to Haliburton Forest & WildLife Reserve. Students involved in our band and stringsprograms may choose to enjoy a music camp in the fall andin June. The Prefect System is the form of studentgovernment at Glenview. It provides an opportunity for grade8 students to develop positive leadership skills and to showtheir commitment to the school community. Each year,students and staff vote on the prefect applicants. Thosecandidates who receive the most votes and fulfill allrequirements will serve the school in one of the 15 positionsavailable.

Parent and Community Engagement

Glenview’s School Council includes a very supportive group ofparent members. Our parent volunteers work on fundraisingactivities, attend field trips, help to organize Graduation, attend Safeand Caring Schools meetings and help organize our TeacherAppreciation Lunch. Glenview supports parents by providing GuestSpeakers, Secondary School Presentation, Grade 6 Open Houseand Parent Welcome Breakfasts. Glenview also collaborates withcommunity agencies to support our students and their families. Weare very active in a variety of community initiatives such as the TerryFox Run, the Glenview Holiday Adopt a Family Initiative and fooddrives. Our school also participates in global fundraising campaignsto help countries in need. At Glenview we send out an electronicbi-weekly Newsletter, Parentview, that boasts student articles andkeeps parents up-to-date.
