    Harmony Day

In Week 8 our students and staff participated in Harmony Day to cele-

brate and show respect for Australia’s cultural diversity. Students par-

ticipated in lessons which focused on acknowledging the richness of

our multicultural society and the importance of tolerance and working

together which helps create a sense of belonging for everyone. Many

students also chose to wear orange, the official colour of Harmony

    Day.

  • Musica Viva

Yesterday our students and teachers travelled to Exeter Public School to watch a Musica Viva

performance. The performing group were known as ‘Taikoz’ and specialised in the art of taiko- Japanese

drums. We experienced traditional Japanese music and drumming styles with the group performing a

number of interesting compositions. A small number of students received the opportunity to play some of

the traditional drums. The performance was well received by the students.

    High School Taster Day

A number of Year 6 students spent half a day last week at Bowral High School. Students participated in a

tour of the school facilities and then a PE and a Science lesson. Feedback was positive with the students

saying they enjoyed the lessons and the chance to visit their future High School. More of these days will be

    held throughout the year.

ANZAC Day Service – Thursday 25 April

Students from Glenquarry PS are invited to attend the ANZAC Parade and Remembrance Service at

Bowral on ANZAC Day. Those students wishing to participate will need to meet Mr Southwell and Mr

Ryan in the car park adjacent Gloria Jeans Coffee Shop by 10:15am. The parade will move off at 10:35am

and travel to the Bowral War Memorial Park for the service to begin at 11:00am. Participating students are

    required to wear school uniform.

Japanese Drums and were call Taikoz. The Music was ear-deafening but soooooooooooooooo good!

  • K-2 News I am always so proud of the children when we go to events such as yesterday's Musica Viva performance at Exeter. They behaved beautifully and were engaged and participating throughout. Kipling even remembered the name of the Japanese bamboo flute 'shinobue' which greatly impressed the performers!

The K-2 class had a second special treat yesterday, transplanting the natives from the vegetable garden to down near the fence with Mrs Davies. We learnt that they will grow to be about as tall as Levi and twice as wide and will help stop the cows getting through the fence. We also learnt that they are good to eat!

We are nearing the end of the first term for 2019 and the completion of our units of work and so have been doing quite a few assessments. Students, what a fantastic class you have been already, you are going to do great things I can tell! You have been working on using your growth mindset to do the best learning you can do, and the improvement I have seen from the start of the year through to now has been phenomenal, whether it be in your letter/sound relationships or moving on to writing in sentences or paragraphs. Well done everybody!

Don Bradman was the best cricketer in the world. He practised with a stump for a bat and a golf ball for a cricket ball. We tried this and it was very hard. Then we played a game of cricket and it was very good. Don Bradman never gave up. by the K-2 class
