I Wish I Could Disprove

Extremist MathematiciansBy admin on May 28th, 2009

Sometimes I wish that 1 + 1 =

so that I could disprove extremis

mathematicians.

Extremism isn’t always “wrong”. Particularly when it comes knowledge arising from objective criteria.

Careful when your info is subjective. Extremism is a lot hardto justify.

To Learn From Your Mistakes, You Must

Acknowledge Your Mistakes.

Every one makes mistakes. There is value in each mistake wemake, as long as we learn from them. In the same vein, thereis value in each mistake others make — as long as we can

learn from them, too. Let’s all help each other learn more, theref ore, by remaining as transparent as possible. Exposingour mistakes as they’re made. Constructively addressing themistakes others are making as they ’re made. Imagine how much more learned we’d all be!

Procrastination Complements

ProductivityBy admin on May 19th, 2009

Since the cost of doing something wrong can be 10x+ thecost of doing something right, a little slower, I believe that

procrastination complements productivity.

A quick story from my teenage years. My brother and I werehiking around Point Sal for a few days. We hit a road afterhiking over rough terrain and followed it for about a half hour. We were ravenous and exhausted, but had to keep going.

We needed to get back home. We could have kept going (or just looked from atop a nearby hill) to find a fantastic localsteakhouse and used their payphone to call friends to pick us up. Instead, we traversed cowfieilds on steep, windy hills.

We ended up walking for several more hours than we needed, offcourse. W e still found our way (and have great memories of

the event), but it we quite literally took the hard road when wdidn’t need to.

Procrastination Complement

Productivity

Imagine you hit a fork in the road while walking, and youdestination is 5 miles in one direction. You just don’t kno

which direction to take. You could take a left or right. Ymake the wrong choice and end up walking 15 miles insteaof 5. Don’t just go when you hit that crossroads. Look aroun

in the grass, you may just find a sign. Look around in the sk

you may find a signal. Wait. You’ll save time.

The Rur al South Loves Mothers Day. Th

Urban North Loves Labor Day.

So Does the Urban West Coast.

Interesting. Could these trends relate to work/life balancPopulation density? Perhaps people who live in mo

expensive regions search for federal holidays (days off fro  work) more frequently than familial holidays because turban lifestyle requires more “money-generating workPerhaps people in Southern centers just keep their moms andads closer to their hearts (and fingertips)?
