METHODOLOGY All ancestral lineage in the Miller and Cavendar bloodlines have been followed in individual threads to the point at which an ancestor came to North America from Europe. All of the Miller ancestral lineage in the Miller and Cavendar bloodlines are Northern European. The Glenn Miller Genealogy includes 467 people in the Miller and Cavendar bloodlines. Note: Connecticut records show a large number of names with births in Connecticut before the 1631 Grant by the Earl of Warwick and the founding of Windsor in 1633, Wethersford in 1634 and Harford in 1636. Although these historic records are left unedited in this document, it is probable such pre-1633 entries are for family members from England or perhaps Massachusetts. At some point a “batch” entry of all pre-1633 “Connecticut” names appear to have been made.

This report has been prepared to answer the many questions about Glenn Miller’s ancestry, which has been misunderstood or misrepresented from time to time.

Glenn Miller’s ancestry can be positively identified to back to 7/8 of his forbearers’ arrival in North America from Europe. Miller’s ancestry is completely “pre-1800” and pre-American Revolution in origin. Of note, Miller is a direct descendant of the legendary Hon. Capt. Myles Standish of Mayflower and Plymouth Colony fame. 1/4 of his ancestry cannot be confirmed but this missing piece is a surname of English origin. Therefore, there is a 1/4 estimate included in the conclusions. The Cavendar line is of more recent origin than the Miller line and includes larger non-British representation. Further research finds a larger original German ancestry than previously known. Mattie Lou Cavendar’s mother, Pauline Bruner, was of 100% German origin. This was previously unknown. Points of entry are heavily Massachusetts and Connecticut on the Miller line. The Miller line has been in North America for 12 generations. The Cavendar line has been in North America for 6 generations. Approximately 72% of Miller’s heritage is from the British Isles.
