SCHOOL NEWSLETTER TERM 2 WEEK 6

We are currently halfway through Term 2 and the school has been busy with many different activities being held. We apology if sometimes the results from these events are not published. It is very hard to ensure all events are commented upon. We endeavour to advertise our students fantastic efforts as we are very proud of all of our students' achievements. Athletics Carnival On Thursday we held our Annual Athletics carnival, it was great to see the event being held once again. The weather was beautiful and it was great to see so many community members joining us to observe the students participate in the events and witness the great sportsmanship shown by all students and the leadership by our house captains and leadership team was fantastic. I had a great time watching the students run, throw and jump. All students who participated should be proud of their efforts! Thank you to all staff who assisted on the day and a special thanks to Ms Rossington for all her coordination & organisation leading up to and on the day. The day could not have been so successful without all the effort she puts into it. Special thanks also to our local council, Mr Taylor and Mr Elliott for their line marking and getting the field ready for the event. More details about the day to follow in our next newsletter. School Upgrade We currently have some construction happening onsite. This is for our new building which will be used as a multi-purpose room for our students with disabilities. It will be a space designed to cater for all their needs. We look forward to this new room being completed early next term. NAPLAN Year 7 & 9 students are to be commended for their efforts throughout our first year of online NAPLAN testing that took place this week. Students absent on the assessment day/s were provided with the opportunity to do the assessment Week 5.

Mobile Phones A reminder to all students and parents of our mobile phone policy at Glen Innes High. Before school, recess, lunchtime and after school students should be using their phone responsibility. During class time (even between classes) phones should be placed in bags on silent. Year 11 & 12 can use their phone for educational purposes during class time with teachers permission. If a student uses or has a phone in their possession during class time, they will be placed on Level 2 of our Wellbeing system and their phones will be placed in the front office. After five completed Level 2 cards students will not be permitted to have a phone at school. Phones must be turned into the office upon arrival at school and a level 2 card provided. Students must complete and return the card for five school days and without further incidents before their mobile phone privileges are restored.

Uniforms With the cold upon us, we would like to remind all students and families that wearing the correct school uniform is required. We understand that with the cold weather there may be occasions where uniforms may still be drying or students need to add an extra layer. If this is the case, please send your student to school with a note to explain why they are out of uniform. If you require to add an extra layer, it is requested that you still do so using the current uniform guidelines. No Hoodies are allowed to be worn even if they are the correct colour. Tracksuit pants are only for sports day and they need to be blue with no logo. All other days, students are required to wear trousers, or skirts with black stockings underneath. If you need assistance with uniforms, please contact the school office for assistance. All inquiries are kept strictly confidential.

HSIE News

Year 9 History have been studying what conditions were like for soldiers in the trenches during World War 1. As a part of an immersive experience, Miss Clarke and Mrs Gaden’s classes had the pleasure of tasting food that the ANZACs used to eat: Bully Beef and Hard Tack. Whilst most students were somewhat apprehensive before trying these delicacies, all students took on the new experience with gusto. Especially Will Yarnold who managed to eat most of a can of SPAM to himself! What a champion!! Special thanks to Miss Clarke for organising this experience for the students.

Volleyball On Tuesday 11 May and Wednesday 12 May, our opens boys and girls volleyball teams competed in consecutive days of the NW knockout competition gala days. Both teams performed to their best and produced some great volleyball. Sadly, the boys lost a crucial game in the pool games after 2 wins to put them out of the finals. The girls got through to the NW final without loss, however lost in the final against ASC in a closely fought game. However, they have qualified for the top 20 finals in Sydney first week of Term 3. Great work girls and best of luck
