Glatz has always been conscious of its role as a pioneer. In 1895, Albert Glatz found a lucrative niche that went on to become a success ful business under the leadership of his son, Albert Junior. Later, Dölf Glatz successfully developed technical solutions that found worldwide recognition.

History

Whatever the setting – futuris-tic, neo-classical or contemporary architecture, romantic gardens, spacious or awkwardly shaped terraces and balconies or stylish pool areas – all of the sunshades from GLATZ are both modern and time-less, blending into their surroundings like a chameleon and con-tributing discreetly to the outdoor ambience. With its centre-pole and free-arm sunshades made of aluminium or wood, GLATZ offers supreme comfort in terms of privacy and protection from the sun and rain. The sunshade models are equally impressive when it comes to functionality and handling: all of them can be rotated, tilted and slanted effortlessly, while the large selection of colours and elegant design make them an eye-catching feature of your private outdoor area.

Hotel & Restaurant : This sunshade model is particularly suitable for the everyday demands of hotels and restaurants. It can be com-bined with other models of different colours, shapes and sizes.

Meadow : This functional and robust sunshade model is highly recom-mended for large and small lawns.

Terrace : Whether your terrace is large, small, square or rectangular, this model adapts to its surroundings and sets the perfect tone in your outdoor area.

Balcony : This model puts every last corner of the balcony in the shade and takes up almost no space thanks to its design.

Fastenings

Base : This sunshade type can be attached to a base or a weighted pedestal, so it can be moved at any time without complex installa-tion.

Lawn spike : Thanks to a lawn spike sunk into the ground, this model can be moved very quickly to a new location in the soft ground.

Balcony clamp : Where space is at a premium, this sunshade model can be fastened to the balcony railing with a clamp.

Wall clamp : Walls are no obstacle to us, because this sunshade model can be easily fastened to them with a wall clamp.

Ground socket : If the sunshade model will be fixed in one place, a ground socket set in concrete is the ideal choice.

Our range of models is as individual as our customers. As well as a wide variety of shapes, colours and sunshade types including comprehensive accessories, we produce customised sunshades at the customer’s request and offer a total outdoor solution. This includes extensive advice and a presentation, demonstration and explanation of selected sunshade models at our distribution partners’ showrooms. What’s more, customers can take advantage of a home delivery service: on request, Glatz’s distribution partners will personally deliver the selected sunshade including accessories to the customer, install it in the desired location – thanks to expert staff trained by us – and show how to operate the respective model. Needless to say, the packaging material is taken away, our partners respond promptly and efficiently to queries and will quickly deliver spare parts and carry out repairs should the need arise (some online purchases are excluded from this service package).

Many sunshade models are also available “to go” – in our easy Collection of portable sun-shades. Budget-conscious consumers and impulse buyers seeking sun protection will find everything they need here in terms of functionality and quality – only the selection of colours and materials is limited. ALEXO®

Young or old – everybody knows this sunshade. GLATZ has been producing the gear-jointed Swiss design icon ALEXO® for more than eight decades. Even from a distance, the top of the umbrella signals that fi ne craftsmanship is celebrated here. Other characteristic features include its round frame, with a diameter of either 200 cm or 220 cm as desired, with or without fl ounces as well as a varnished ash wood support pole. With its nickel-plated brass gear joint and long centre pole, the sunshade cover can be tilted in several stages to align with the position of the sun. Balcony clamps, ground sockets and mobile bases are optionally available as anchorage.

This wooden sunshade has something that enchants many people: nostalgic charm! The TEAKWOOD’s characteristics are its fi ne materials, such as natural teak wood, rustproof metal fi ttings and corner mounts reinforced with leather as well a double pulley system. Its new, high-quality patterns and colours mean that the TEAKWOOD will never look old. Opening the TEAKWOOD releases a breeze of freedom. The little FORTINO® goes wherever shade is needed: in the lounge or at the bar – thanks to its dimensions it can be moved to a new location in the blink of an eye. On the terrace, in the garden or by the pool – thanks to its small size, the FORTINO® can accompany you wherever you go! Small, but tough: thanks to its stable construction, the FORTINO® is wind-resistant and can optionally be fi tted with a concrete, steel or granite base. Not too big and not too small, the FORTELLO® is ideal for hotels and restaurants: thanks to its counter-rotating servo opening principle it is easy to handle, can be conveniently trans-ported with its separable pole and light weight and can be cleared away in a fl ash. This functional free-arm sunshade by GLATZ is a big 360° shade provider and has an elegant new look thanks to its subtly redesigned frame. Like the existing model, the SOMBRANO® S+ can be easily opened and closed simultaneously using a self-locking crank mechanism on both sides. Thanks to a new self-locking crank mechanism on both sides, the SOMBRANO® S+ can be simultaneously extended, opened and closed, while the sunshade cover can be tilted 54° on both sides in 18° steps using the tilting rod and rotated through 360° thanks to the turn-able ball bearing base. The PENDALEX® P+ is more than just a shade provider: its technology, handling and high- quality materials such as aluminium, glass fi bre-reinforced TSG synthetic material and galvanised, powder-coated spring steel struts are designed for intensive use. This sunshade is opened and closed using a crank mechanism. Thanks to a gas pressure spring in the pole, the sunshade height can be easily adjusted. The ball-and-socket joint made of hard anodized aluminium allows stepless tilting of the sunshade cover up to 90° in all directions and 360° rotation around the pole. Despite its size, the PENDALEX® P+ takes up virtually no space when closed: it can easily be left outside in winter – for many years to come.

2Material and technology : The profiled telescopic pole and free arm are made of naturally anodised or anthracite powder-coated aluminium, with shells made of fibreglass-reinforced TSG synthetic material. Teflon-modified high-performance synthetic material has been used for the guides. The struts are made of tempered spring steel, galvanized and powder-coated. The GLATZ ball-and-socket joint consists of forge-pressed hard anodized aluminium.

3How to operate : Open and close the sunshade with the crank on the free arm. The sunshade height can be easily adjusted using the gas pressure spring (50 cm lift) in the pole. The free arm runs on roller guides and can be progressively extended. The GLATZ ball-and-socket joint allows the sunshade roof to tilt steplessly in all directions up to 90°. The sunshade can be easily and steplessly rotated 360° around the pole.

3How to operate : The sunshade is particularly convenient to open and close with the optional crank handle set. A gas pressure spring (lift 70 cm) makes it easy to adjust the height. Many of our distribution partners are authorised to sell our XXL range: they survey the location, work hand in hand with the architects and make allowance for the architectural style as well as space, wind and soil conditions in their planning. We are not just aware of our responsibility; we actively take charge of the delivery, installation and setup of our giant sunshades including original accessories by staff trained by GLATZ in the prede-fined location. Needless to say, our distribution partners always strive to solve problems on the spot. They arrange a personal conversation with the customer, quickly providing replace-ments if the worst comes to the worst and carrying out repairs as fast as possible.

For a pleasant atmosphere and comfort in the shade, you can rely on the AMBIENTE with its XXL design and span width of up to 5 metres. This special class of free-arm sunshade is impressive due to its dimensions and stable construction. The supporting elements and frame are made of pressed aluminium, while the mechanism consists of cable wires and a rustproof threaded spindle. The shade roof can be opened and closed by crank or an optional motor. Meanwhile, the furniture underneath the shade roof stays put. Depending on the size of the sunshade, the AMBIENTE can easily withstand wind speeds of up to 40 km/h when fi xed to the ground.

With its majestic lightness, the large space sunshade entices you to linger. Its handling is also in line with its pleasing appearance: The CASTELLO® M4 features a counter-rotating tele-scopic opening principle, allowing the sunshade roof to be raised and lowered using a slide and tensioning lever. One thing you certainly won’t fi nd under this sunshade at the height of summer is heat! An opening under the top ensures a constant supply of fresh air. This also makes the CASTELLO® M4 ideal as a smokers’ lounge. Another plus: the CASTELLO® M4’s tensioning lever can be secured with a padlock. Round, rectangular or square, the CASTELLO® M4 is available in material class 5 and offers UV protection of UPF 50+.

2Material and technology : The frame is made of seamless naturally anodised or white powder-coated aluminium profiles and the slide and the crown are made of Rilsan-coated aluminium. The steel parts are corrosion-resistant and the tautening lever can be secured by means of a padlock.

The younger of its two brothers carries the big family name with pride. And rightly so. It combines both comfort and strength at the same time – in the face of wind speeds of up to 100 km/h, it protects you from both the sun and the rain and wins you over with a multitude of additional functions. The PALAZZO® STYLE is available in 15 standard models as crank or motorised variants and can optionally be supplemented with heating and LED or conventional lighting. High performance and easy operation are what makes this large space sunshade impressive. Depending on the size of the sunshade, the PALAZZO® NOBLESSE can withstand wind speeds of up to 90 km/h, as proven by numerous wind tunnel tests. It opens and closes with just 12 manual turns of the crank or optionally via the integrated remote-controlled motor. The attractive details of the PALAZZO® ROYAL are captivating and visually emphasise its functionality. Naturally anodised aluminium combined with a graphite grey fi nish emphasises the design. Its ease of use is unbeatable: the PALAZZO® ROYAL opens and closes with a maximum of 19 manual turns of the crank or optionally via the remote-controlled motor. This leaves the seating below undisturbed, as the shut height is higher than 70 cm for all models. The innovative fastening technology ensures optimum fabric tensioning. Important: all control components and cables are integrated into the mast and frame and operated by remote control. UPF: Stamp of qualityfor excellentprotection againstdirect UV rays.

Every sunshade offers protection from the sun, but not all protect you from dangerous UV rays. Ultraviolet radiation is divided into UVA, UVB and UVC wave ranges. The shorter the wave range, the more harmful it is for your skin. Although UV radiation is in the longest wave range, it is the most dangerous for humans. As well as giving a quick, short-lived tan, it more significantly increases the risk of skin aging and skin cancer. In this respect, GLATZ is a step ahead of other manufacturers and uses thickly woven sun covers that filter UV rays and are rated UPF 50+ in line with the Australian standard.

UV protection

Lightfastness

Not only skin, but also sunshade covers must be protected from strong UV rays. If a sunshade is permanently exposed to the sun, the material will fade over time. How quickly and to what extent depends on the quality of the fabric. GLATZ offers material classes 2 (only available in the easy collection), 4 and 5. The higher the

UPF stands for “Ultraviolet Protection Factor” and is a programme of the Australian government. In this country, solar shading manufacturers can apply to the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency to have their products tested – Glatz AG has done exactly that. All materials from the Swiss sunshade manu-facturing company carry the worldwide trademark-protected UPF stamp. The sun protection scale ranges between 15 and 50, with 50 being the best and providing the highest level of protection from UV radiation. Products above this are labelled with the UPF 50+ seal.

Important: all GLATZ fabrics offer sun protection of UPF 50+.

material class, the better the lightfastness and, consequently, the longer the fading period – for example material class 2 with an open-air light resistance of 40 – 80 days after direct solar radiation. Material class 4 shows initial colour changes after 350 – 700 days and material class 5 after 700 days.
