PU-2422 is a 46% concentrate for use with polar materials. PU-1160 is a 66% concentrate. APPLICATIONS It is an anhydrous formulation. Claimed to be the first polymer composite wheel on the road, the Fiberide wheel, developed by Lancing in the US for Chrysler, is compression moulded from vinyl ester sheet moulding compounds. The material is based upon Derakane 790 vinyl ester polymer from Dow Chemical. The main advantage is a saving in weight - some lo-15% reduction over a cast aluminium wheel. Balance of the wheel is also said to be improved. Correct fibre alignment in the moulding process is essential. Glass fibre nylons have been used for some time in the cooling circuit of cars since they have the required resistance to cooling agents, the dynamic load-bearing capacity, processability, and the possible integration of fuing elements. Although the requirements of this end use have become more demanding in terms of heat ageing resistance and other advancements, these are still satisfied by this material.
