Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar

Dear Reader

We are witnessing the transition phase of education, and riding on the wave of

e-learning, we forget to dig deeper into the depths of ancient texts & scriptures for the

sacred pearls of education. We got carried away by the e-learning but forgot to explore

our roots. We should rise above our narrow thinking of understanding the ancient texts

like Vedas, Puranas and Upanishadas from religious sectarian outlook but treat these as

repository of age old wisdom above our narrow religious Coloring. If we care about our

cultural roots, in the long run we can savour rich modern fruits. Our Vedas and Puranas

are not only sacred scriptures to chant and recite in religious or social ceremonies but

they are spiritual wisdom and scientic knowledge in its most rened and crystallized

form. It is high time we should pay rich tribute to our forefathers by exploring and

researching our ancient texts in the light of the latest technological & scientic

advancements and make the best use of our ancient treasures to restore the lost glory of

our nation in the eyes of the modern world. These sacred scriptures are not only

Shalokas and Sutras but also provide knowledge of science, musicology and codes of

thinking & living. We undervalue the spiritual insights of our forefathers and overvalue

the western hollow scientic achievements. Our university is taking initiatives and baby

steps in this unexplored eld of ancient oriental knowledge.

Where whole world is looking with hope and faith towards India the cradle of civilization

to become the torchbearer of knowledge, we look elsewhere for guidance. We ought to

be proud of our national heritage and spiritual roots.

We hope India will soon restore its rightful status as 'Vishawa Guru'.
