GIVING A SPEECH

First you should come up with a good idea (your topic).

CAREFUL PLANNING:

• Create a mind map in the centre of which you write the main idea of your speech.

• Choose a couple of different points that you can make within your main point. You should have at least five different points to talk about.

CAREFUL PLANNING:

•Write a few key details of each of the main points/ideas of your speech.

A speech consists of three major parts:

1. The opening2. The body3. The closing

Use linking words and phrases to link one idea or argument to another:

–You see..., the thing is...–Firstly, secondly, thirdly–As a consequence, therefore, due to,

etc.

While preparing your speech, make notes on separate cards. Remember to practise your speech.

While giving your speech,–Speak clearly and slowly.–Make eye contact with the

audience.–Pay attention to your body
