TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 20, 2020
A MESSAGE FROM FR. TIM

Clergy Health and Retirement Trust Support our Priests in September This week’s special collection supports the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust (CHRT) which cares for the health and well-being of our active and senior priests in good standing. Whether it is within our parish communities, or in the community at large, our peiests are making a difference every day. By supporting the special collection this weekend, you are helping to ensure that our priests receive the care they need to continue their important work.
The readings for this weekend, in my prayer, call to mind the Our Father. In the Our Father we say; “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespassed against us.” My reaction to that is; I hope God is more forgiving than I am. In today’s gospel we hear the king has compassion for the servant who owes him a huge amount and forgives him. Yet the same servant cannot forgive someone who owes him a less amount In my own prayer I have pondered the person of St. Paul. Paul, known as Saul at the time, was basically a terrorist, a mass murderer. If we lived in that time, we would have looked as his actions as being horrific. I suspect, as misguided as he was, he was doing what he felt was right. It was his experience of a compassionate, forgiving God that was a defining moment in his life. As we know Saul went from a terrorist to become St. Paul, an evangelist for Christ. We recall Pope John Paul II, now Pope St. John Paul, went to visit the person in jail, who shot him, to forgive him. I once was stationed with a priest from Rwanda who lost his entire family, shortly before his ordination, in the Genocide. Yet he often talked about forgiveness and how difficult we as humans make it. Obviously none of these people forgave on their own but with the help of God; for with God all things are possible. Certainly we look to the scriptures and we recognize forgiveness. Jesus forgave his persecutors. Jesus forgave Peter. I believe Jesus forgave Jundas. The Blessed Mother forgave those who hurt and killed her son. In recent times occasionally you hear on the news or read an article of someone who forgives those who have hurt, even killed their loved ones. They did not do that on their own either. Why does he ask this of us? It is so hard. My favorite example is the older son in the parable of the prodigal son. The older son is missing out on the joy of the party because he cannot let go of his anger, he cannot forgive. Negative emotions weigh us down, become a burden and eventually become the glasses through which we see life. He calls us to be whole, to be free, to be who we are; love. A few years back someone gave me this quote which I love and have come to deeply appreciate. It is from the book Return to Love by Marianne Williamson. “When Michelangelo was asked how he created a piece of sculpture, he answered that the statue already existed within the marble. God Himself had created the Pieta, David, Moses. Michelangelo’s job, as he saw it, was to get rid of the excess marble that surrounded God’s creation. So it is with you. The perfect you isn’t something you need to create, because God already created it. The perfect you is the love within you. Your job is to allow the Holy Spirit to remove the fearful thinking that surrounds your perfect self, just as excess marble surrounded Michelangelo’s perfect statue.” Fr. Tim

9:00 AM Mass Live Streaming
From the Desk of Fr. Tim,
Blessings Fr. Tim
A Gentle Reminder As this unprecedented time goes, we
may be apt to forget some of the safety precautions that we needed to put in place so that we could resume live
Masses. When you make a reservation, you are agreeing to:
Wear a mask at all times when in the church.
Bring hand sanitizer with you. Follow the usher to your assigned seat and remain in that seat at all times until
Mass is finished Leave the church immediately after
receiving Holy Communion by the door on the side of the church where you
were sitting.
We ask every one to understand that these commitments are to ensure the
safety of both priests and parishioners during this difficult time.
Blessings, Fr. Tim
This column originated during my recovery from surgery to let you know how I was doing. It was a way of communicating with you and keeping you abreast with my progress. It has become a column that people look at on a weekly basis. The column is meant to be the informal observations, and concerns of the pastor. With that being said I am pleased with the response to the live streaming Mass and to the opportunity provided for people to receive communion in the parking lot of Blessed Sacrament Church. The two live Masses are going well. I understand the hesitancy of people to participate in the live Masses due to Covid-19. With people’s safety being the major concern we are adhering to the guidelines of the State and the Archdiocese. Be well and stay safe.

CATHOLIC WOMEN'S GUILD
With the help of Jesus and our Blessed Mother Mary, the Women's Guild will begin it's new
year in a most unusual way. This year we will be "virtual" until we can meet again safely.
Those without a computer will receive a letter in the mail. We will try to keep it
interesting for all our members with a monthly newsletter, information, and some "fun" things thrown in too! We know it is unusual to do it this way but we want to keep our sisterhood
alive and well the best we can for now. Hopefully, this will soon pass and we
canall get back to a normal life and be able to meet again.
Please contact Kathie Lanney @ (781) 231-0629 or [email protected]
All Women are welcome!! We would love to have new members to join our guild and carry on to honor our Blessed Mother.
In our outrage at injustice, may we come to an awareness of how we too must resist complicity in this world’s broken systems. May our anger be redeemed and transformed
from bitterness to grounded action. In Christ’s name, amen.

Our priests are often at the center of efforts that build
strong support systems for all of us. In addition to
their daily pastoral responsibilities, they help establish
social service organizations, offer spiritual support for first
responders, operate parish food pantries, and recently, in
response to the pandemic, put their lives at risk to provide
comfort and peace to those suffering with COVID-19.
Healthier priests build stronger communities. And the
Clergy Health and Retirement Trust (CHRT) is dedicated to
keeping our priests healthy.
This September, you can support the CHRT’s mission
by giving to the special collection at Masses on
September 19/20. Every gift makes a difference and is
a symbol of gratitude for all our priests who don’t just
observe need in our communities; they seek it out so
they can respond.
