THANK YOU PRINCIPALS MESSAGE Dear Families, Using what we have learnt in Term 2 to improve our classroom pracce: As well as experiencing challenges, I have heard many stories of students (and workers) who are thriving in the remote learning environment because of reduced distracons, more individual thinking me and being able to self-pace their learning. Some high-ability, self-directed students have made excellent gains in their knowledge and skills. We have been discussing how to support students when they return to the classroom to ensure the environment enhances producve thinking and learning. Many of our current teaching and learning pracces promote lots of group collaboraon and spontaneous responses that may not support the learning styles of many of our resourceful, creave and deeper thinkers who need me and space to ponder by themselves. If your child has enjoyed some elements of home learning please ensure you give this feedback to his/her teacher; we want to provide a range of learning pracces in the classroom that cater for all students over the school day and both support their preferred way of learning and challenge them to work in other ways. Our drop off and pick up arrangements have worked very well this week. Thank you to everyone for allowing your child the opportunity to use the crossing and walk to the gates independently while you move off quickly to provide parking for other families. Of course if you are in an area further from the school, such as the Scout Hall you will need to walk your child across Howey or other streets and then allow them to walk on the footpath the gates. Please do not cross the road at the ends of Prince Street. Model using the school crossing with your child/ren. By the me the Year 3/4/5/6 students return on the 9 th June, it is hoped we will be doing this even more efficiently to ensure there is drop off and pick up parking for everyone. If you wish to get out of your car please do not park in the bays on the kerbside in Prince or Fisher St as we wish to use these bays as quick drop off and pick up bays. Thank you for not congregang around the school gates. Borrowed netbooks: Students in Prep to Year 2 who borrowed netbooks need to return them to the office immediately. All students should also bring any class materials and staonery back to school. Enjoy the rest of your week, Julie Souer – Principal IT HAS BEEN GREAT TO SEE OUR PREP, GRADE 1 & 2 STUDENTS BACK ONSITE THIS WEEK!

MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Caring Hearts, Caring Minds, Caring Actions

Return to school

On Tuesday, we saw our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students’ return to

face-to-face teaching. It was a fantastic start to the day with our

students demonstrating their independence and saying their

goodbyes at the car or gate. The teachers and staff were extremely

proud of the students who settled in quickly to the school routines

and structures. Our staff did an amazing job of supporting their

students each day which contributed to the smooth transition.

Thank you to the parents who had obviously had conversations with their children regarding the

changes and for following the guidelines with no adult congregation and moving away from the

school quickly. We appreciate your support with this and for continuing with our positive home/

school partnership. I am picturing all of the skills our children will be developing as a result of this

pandemic and can see many children building their resilience, independence,

confidence and personal responsibility. Our students have definitely earnt themselves a

values token this week.

Crossing roads

As smooth as our end of day procedures were, we are mindful that some students are crossing

busy roads without parents to support them with this. Can you please be mindful that even

students with good road sense can find it challenging when they are crossing busy roads. If you

can please assist your children with crossing the road and meeting them on the school side where

possible this would be appreciated.

Attendance/late drop off/early pick up

Please remember to contact the school with any absence information. If you are late to school,

please park at the front of the school and watch your child walk into the office area. A staff

member will then support them to get to their classroom. If you feel you need support with this, call

the office so they can meet your child outside the office doors.

If you need to collect a child from school early, please call the office in advance. Then come to

the office and wait for your child to be brought to you there. Sign your child out before leaving. In

line with the DET guidelines, we are not to have parents walking into the school grounds unless

previously discussed with the principals and it is deemed essential.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards, Lisa Maxwell

THANK YOU PFA!

The PFA have donated reward points they received from Scholastic Books enabling the purchase of more books for the library.

We thank the PFA members for this donation, and also our families who purchased books and items during the Scholastic Fundraising

event.

Our writers club have been at it again, writing about remote learning. Great work! Returning from Remote Learning I’ve learnt that remote learning is hard and that I miss being with my friends. I have learnt patience to wait and see everyone again. I have also learnt that you should take your time with your work because it’s important to still do your best even though your teacher isn’t telling you what to do. Just because the teacher is not there it doesn’t mean that you don’t try your hardest and don’t give up. I have learnt to think for myself and not ask other people what to do that much. I have developed student agency by pushing myself and going back to check my work. I am sad that I am not at school with my friends and teachers so I am feeling excited about going back to school. Even though we don’t see each other in person we still see each other on a screen. We talk to each other on games like we would in person. I’m looking forward to playing with my friends and kicking the ball around. I can’t wait to see my teachers and talk to them like I will with my friends. By Riley Smith Year 4

A child’s perspective of remote learning Online school is so very different. I really can’t wait till everything is back to normal. I meet four times a week with my teacher and three of those are with others. (I also sometimes stay in my pjs!) I really miss all my friends and teachers though, I really am just cruising along with work. I felt very overwhelmed at first but I have gotten used to it. But overall it is very different to what I am used to and really miss just being at school like usual. I am a little scared but then I am just cruising. By Millie Damen Year 5

Remote Learning Ghost cities and abandoned towns, life in lock down has become global… No people in shops, no people in pools and no people at restaurants. This is happening and it's called COVID-19! Do you miss going to school or to people's houses? All across Australia, every child is being kept at home and doing remote learning! Remote learning is when us kids have to do school online. This can be stressful and challenging but we all have to give it a go! Through this, we can still keep in touch with our teachers, classmates, friends and even family. For me I'm never afraid to ask for help and that is a trait that we all should have. Not being afraid to ask for help is being a great role model to not just your classmates but younger kids who are afraid to ask for help or haven’t started school yet! I am actually pretty excited to go back to school once this terrible damage is done because I get to see my friends and family and my AMAZING teacher Mrs ST, at GPS! Are you thrilled and delighted to go back to school or kinder? Remember, we are all going through the same thing and are all in this together. #WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER! Monique Mckibbin 5A

A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL CAPTAINS — LEADERSHIP GROUP

TIPS FOR GETTING BACK TO SCHOOL By Claire Byham

Whether you are already back at school or still at home, some of us might find it hard to adjust back into the normal school routine. Here are a few tips to help: >Stay Positive! Draw a picture about what’s good about school or write down some things you are looking forward to. >Share what you’ve done! List a few things you did while learning from home that you want to share with others. >Suggest Ideas! Did you do something while learning from home you want to do more often? Ask your teacher if you can do it! >Remember the holidays aren’t too far away! You’ll get a break soon. When we are back at school, always remember that if you need a friendly face in the yard, the school captains are here to help. A picture of us is here in case you’ve forgotten what we look like. Have a good week!

Dear Parents, As students begin the transition back to onsite lessons many are keen to start their keyboard lessons again as well. Unfortunately the Department of Education has ruled that instrumental teachers cannot return to onsite face to face lessons until term 3. This means that all students who took up online/Zoom lessons during term 2 will continue to receive their lessons online until the end of term 2. For those who wish to return to their keyboard lessons at school in Term 3, please either call Music Foundations on 0404 469 220 or email [email protected]. We really hope to see you all back at a keyboard very soon. Dianne Trickey Music Foundations
