6

Workforce Information Database (WID 2.7)

• The largest repository of workforce information, federal labor reporting, and

economic data for the United States

• Developed by the Analyst Resource Center (ARC), a cooperative effort

between the US Department of Labor (DOL), the National Crosswalk Service

Center (NCSC), the Employment and Training Administration (ETS), and

several states

Workforce Information Database

7

Workforce Information Database (WID 2.7)

• A highly normalized, relational database structure with more than 200 look-

up, data, crosswalk, and administrative tables

• Designed for storing, manipulating, and displaying workforce, economic,

demographic and related information

• Common, standardized structure

• Allows for greater uniformity across multiple, dynamic datasets

States may populate data by several geographic classifications, from federally-

defined regions to local, state-defined areas, crucial to representation in GIS:

• National• State• Metropolitan statistical

areas• Workforce investment

regions• Service delivery areas• Counties• Minor civil divisions• BLS regions• Broad geographic

regions• Planning regions

• Labor market areas• Cities• Towns• Townships• Municipality/suburbs• One-stop areas• Workforce development

areas• Job center areas• Congressional districts• Census places
