AgendaWhat is Hot Spot Analysis?
• The “subjectivity” of maps
• Why do Hot Spot Analysis?
• How does Hot Spot Analysis work?
• Optimized Hot Spot Analysis / Types of Hot Spot Analysis in ArcGIS Online
***New Tools*** - Space Time Pattern Mining Tools
• The new toolsets available (ArcGIS Desktop – ArcMap & ArcGIS Pro)…
What are Web Based Analytics (ArcGIS 10.4)?
• The new capabilities available…

Why do Hot Spot Analysis?
1) Exploration: To reveal and quantify patterns that you may not see
2) Regression workflows: Determining if you have spatial dependence
in your residuals (one of the “6 checks of OLS regression”)
3) Interpolation workflows: Spatially dependent data is the foundation
of Geostatistical Analysis methods
Hot Spot Analysis(Getis-Ord Gi*)
given a set of weighted features, identifies statistically significant hot spots and cold
spots using the Getis-Ord Gi* statistic

*New Tools*
Space Time Pattern Mining Tools(Create Space Time Cube & Emerging Hot Spot Analysis)
Contains statistical tools for analyzing data distributions and patterns in the context of
both space and time.
Create Space Time Cube…
Summarizes a set of points
into a netCDF data
structure by aggregating
them into space-time bins.
Emerging Hot Spot Analysis…
Identifies trends in the clustering of point
densities (counts) or summary fields in a space
time cube created using Create Space Time
Cube. Categories include new, consecutive,
intensifying, persistent, diminishing, sporadic,
oscillating and historical hot and cold spots.

What do the PA Tools
accomplish?
ArcGIS Predictive Analysis Tools
Predicting Drug Trafficking Locations and Movements
• Where will they likely have a farm site?
• How quickly can they transport their product?
• Use doctrinal knowledge to set movement constraints
• Use past data to optimize searching for farms
• Auto-generate search criteria
• Find likely travel routes from the farms to the ocean
