Girlfriends Getaway, Chicago 4 Days and 3 Nights! Sunday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 14, 2019

Day 1, Sunday August 11th (D)

Our deluxe motor coach will take us to the great city

of Chicago, Illinois. Upon our arrival we will delight in

a classic Chicago dining experience at one of Chicago’s

most iconic pizzerias before checking in to the Historic

Millennium Knickerbocker hotel, formerly known as

the Playboy Towers (Hugh Hefner owned the hotel in

the 1970s), the rumor was that when prohibition

reigned, Al Capone’s brother operated a casino and

speak-easy on the Penthouse (14th) Floor of this 1927

Chicago landmark. Today, the hotel is a member of the

Historic Hotels of America and is located just a half

block off Magnificent Mile, where all the best shops

and dining venues are located.

Day 2, Monday August 12th (B,D)

We will head to Millennium Park this morning to enjoy

the sights, relax with a meditation session and enjoy

lunch on your own before returning to the Magnificent

Mile to enjoy the afternoon on your own to do what

girls do best….. SHOP! This evening we will make our

way to the iconic Navy Pier and board the beautiful

Odyssey ship for our dinner cruise where we will mar-

vel at the magnitude of the Chicago skyline, enjoy din-

ner, drinks and entertainment.

Day 3, Tuesday August 13th (B, light lunch)

Let’s play Cinderella! Our horse drawn carriages will

pick us up at the Knickerbocker, tour us past the beau-

tiful sights of Downtown Chicago before ending our

tour at the Drake Hotel where we will experience a tra-

ditional afternoon tea in the famous Palm Court room.

Tea is served in individual tea pots accompanied by the

traditional three tiered tea tray filled with an arrange-

ment of gourmet finger sandwiches; delicious breads

and scones; and dainty petit fours with complements

of house made preserves, lemon curd and English dou-

ble Devon cream. After our event at the Palm Court,

the day is all yours to enjoy along Magnificent Mile.

Day 4, Wednesday, August 14th (B)

We can’t leave Chicago without experiencing a tradi-

tional Chicago hot dog! We will depart our hotel late

morning and grab hotdogs to go on our way out of

town. The first Chicago hot dogs, produced by Vienna

Beef, were served at the World's Columbian Exposition

in Chicago in 1893 and have been a huge success ever

since. The Chicago style hot dog is clothed in many

distinct ingredients: yellow mustard, neon green relish,

chopped onions, tomato wedges, a pickle spear, two

sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt. Many Chica-

goans say that the Chicago dog has been "dragged

through the garden" due to its notable amount of veg-

gies. However, one ingredient often identified with hot

dogs is left off: ketchup. To any true Chicagoan, put-

ting ketchup on a hot dog is to commit the 8th Deadly

Sin. At the 2015 Chicago Hot Dog Fest, Bill Savage, a

professor at Northwestern, said that leaving ketchup

off the hot dog has "become this kind of Chicago iden-

tity — like if you put ketchup on your hot dog you’re

not really a Chicagoan." With shopping bags in tow,

new friendships to cherish, tummies full of hot dogs

and memories that will last a lifetime we are on our

way home.
