Greetings,

It is difficult to fathom that school will be getting started back up in just a

matter of weeks, but summer is far from over. August is here! This is that time of year in which we be-

gin some of our most serious planning for the new church year. In a short time our Ministry Team Di-

rectors and Committee Chairmen will be submitting their budgets for 2014, committees will be meeting,

and our children will be transitioning into their new Sunday School Classes on August 4th.

July was an awesome month, though, with a record turnout at Freedom Spectacular of about 3000, a

Fantastic Vacation Bible School with about 150 involved, four fabulous mission trips, high attendances

over 400 in worship, and a tremendous influx of over twenty new members for the month. It's been a

good month for Grover.

Wednesday Night Bible Study and Suppers: On August 7, we will resume our Wednesday Night Ser-

vices and Suppers at 5:30 p.m. in the Family Life Cen-

ter. It is always a great time of fellowship for our congrega-

tion during the mid-week time. We will be hearing reports

from our mission team people and on August 14th we will

be kicking off a new Bible Study together in the Book of James, the half brother of our Lord. Begin read-

ing this fantastic epistle now!

Life Recovery Ministry: One of the new ministries that we will be introducing in August will be Life

Recovery. While it won't begin until September 8, you will be hearing a number of

exciting announcements and testimonies about it during the month of Au-

gust. Built upon the concept of Celebrate Recovery developed at Saddleback

Church in California, this ministry will seek to minister to those in our church and

community who want freedom from Life's hurts, hang-ups, and habits. Life Recovery will help individu-

als find God's healing and redemptive power in their lives through 8 Basic

Recovery Principles from God's Word. If you, or someone you know, strug-

gle with guilt, pain, loss of control, grief, fear, abuse, eating disorders, cut-

ting, codependency, pornography, anger and rage, addiction, low self-esteem,

PTSD, or a painful divorce, you will find great value through this minis-

try. Stayed tuned for more to come. Let me know if you are interested.

School Supplies Needed: We are still collecting school supplies for children in the community as a

means of reaching out and helping kids and families. There is a basket in the foyer

for you to bring such things as: Loose-leaf paper, pencils, erasers, tissues, crayons, glue

sticks, and craft paper. This is an easy way to reach out to families in Warrens-

burg. The deadline for turning items into the church is August 9th. We need your

help now!

Attention Ladies! This Thursday night on August 1, we will be launching the Girl Friend's Cafe. This

is going to be a new monthly ministry to women looking for fellowship, Bible

Study, and coffee. If you have been wanting to reach out to your community, you

will not find a better opportunity of touching someone's life. Be thinking now

about someone you might call or invite to this new women's ministry event at

Grover. Plan to attend this Thursday August 1, at 6:00 p.m.

Sunday Messages: We are continuing in August our new series of messages in the Book of First Peter

entitled "Seeing Beyond the Present: Getting Ready for the Best of Your Life". This is proving to be an exciting

book of the New Testament. It is practical and contemporary. As we move now into the heart of the

epistle, you will want to invite people you know who need God's Word. Audio messages are available

online or in the church office. Videos will be available soon. :)

This month, in light of both personal and national events that

leave us wondering “why?”, I would like to share some verses

and research that have been stimulating and also encouraging

to me in trying to make some kind of sense out of (what we might consider) weird, crazy, unjustified, unthink-

able, or just plain unpleasant things that happen to us or around us.

We can be encouraged when reading enough material around these particular verses to gain a contextual under-

standing of their meaning. I would also encourage you to pray before, during, and/or after reading, that the

Holy Spirit guides you in your interpretations. These suggestions help us apply the biblical truths appropriately

to your lives.

Below are some verses to read, reread, and/or use as daily devotionals. Allow yourself to meditate on their

words.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,

who have been called according to his purpose.” - Romans 8:28 (NIV)

“Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us

new life and a hope that lives on. God has something stored up for you in heaven, where it will never decay or be

ruined or disappear. You have faith in God whose power will protect you until the last day. Then he will save you,

just as he has always planned to do. On that day you will be glad, even if you have to go through many hard trials

for a while. Your faith will be like gold that has been tested in a fire. And these trials will prove that your faith

is worth much more than gold that can be destroyed. They will show that you will be given praise and honor and

glory when Jesus Christ returns.” - 1 Peter 1:3-7 (Word in Life Bible – Contemporary English Version)

“In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works

out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.” - Ephesians 1:11 (NIV)

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God:

that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” - 1 John 5:14 (NIV)

“In their hearts human beings plan their course, but he LORD establishes their steps.” - Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)

“All this also comes from the LORD Almighty, whose plan is wonderful,

whose wisdom is magnificent.” (Isaiah 28:29 (NIV)

“Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faith-

fulness.” - Proverbs 14:22 (NIV)

His Word can bring a peace beyond understanding. For this and many other rea-

sons, we move forward, both through and beyond our current circumstances here

on earth, “To Know Christ and To Make Him Known”.

Till next time… In His Service,

- David

Did You Know…

Did you know that people are more likely to respond to an invitation to

church when they are in a time of transition than when they are not?

That is one reason why this ‘back to school’ season is dripping with op-

portunity. Not only is there currently room in all three of our worship services for you to invite a

friend/neighbor to church with you, but our Sunday School classes are filled with members and

teachers who can’t wait to meet those that the Lord has placed in your circle of influence to bring

with you. Even though we are often adding and arranging classes, here is what you will find taking

place in our Sunday School classes on Sunday morning. Keep in mind that our elementary/middle

school/high school students will be transitioning up to their new classes Sunday August 4th, what an

opportunity!

August

No month of the year evokes a larger gap of mood swings in the heart of a teenager like August. A portion of our students (out of sheer boredom) are chomping at the bit to get back to school. Another portion of our stu-dents are savoring every last minute of summer vacation as it quickly fades away. Whatever our feelings regard-ing the coming gauntlet of sporting events, school functions, homework, & responsibilities the reality is that in time it will pass. Our current seniors will graduate and a new group of 6th graders will be ushered in. The ques-tion is, “What will you do to make the most of the time & opportunity that God is giving you this school year?” Every event & gathering we have as a student ministry is both an opportunity for you to reach out and bring a friend as well as an opportunity for you to plug in and use your spiritual gifts to bless our church family. By God’s grace, ‘The Park’ will be a Youth Group rooted in the Gospel and live out the Mission of enjoying God in everything we do. Here are the weekly happenings at The Park you need to be familiar with:

• Big Church: Takes place Sundays @ 9:30 a.m. We like to attend our worship services together. Not only is it a great time of praising our Lord together, but it is a primer for the discussion and chocolate chip pancakes that are to come at Brunch with Jesus.

• Brunch with Jesus: Takes place Sundays @ 11:00 a.m. Our goal isn’t just to teach students the Bible, but to equip them with tools so that they will be prepared for a life of contextual Biblical study as they fall more in love with God & His word.

• Memory Monday: Takes place every Monday that you have school from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. This after school program is awesome. Our High School students ride over after school, while our Middle School students walk less than a quarter of a mile to “The Park”, our youth area. Our students are met by an incredible team of adult leaders (and one Labrador) who will help then to knock out their homework, master new memory techniques, eat delicious free snacks, break down sweet theology, and relax with some hilarious games.

• Huddles: Our Wednesday evenings informally get kicked off with an incredible dinner with the rest of our Grover family at 5:30 p.m. Huddles formally run from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. Huddles are all about the students using their gifts: musical, hospitable, serving, & speaking gifts to bless one another through a time of Biblical teaching, small group discussion, prayer, worship, and video.

• Students Investigating God (SIG) Weekend November 1st-3rd: SIG Weekend is our Huge Fall retreat. This is no ordinary youth retreat. SIG Weekend is about inviting our students to ask hard questions & do hard things. We deal with difficult, but vital subjects that equip our students to handle the doubts and deceptions that false worldviews are already throwing at them on a daily basis.

Here’s What’s up @ The Park in August:

• August 4th: Big Church @ 9:30 a.m., Brunch w/Jesus @ 11:00 a.m., & Reach Out @ 4:00 p.m. • August 7th: Word on the Water from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. • August 11th: Big Church @ 9:30 a.m., Brunch w/Jesus @ 11:00 a.m. • August 14th: Word on the Water from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. • August 18th: Big Church @ 9:30 a.m., Brunch w/Jesus @ 11:00 a.m., & Reach Out @ 4:00 p.m. • August 19th: First Memory Monday from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. • August 21st: Last Word on the Water from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. • August 25th: Big Church @ 9:30 a.m., Brunch w/Jesus @ 11:00 a.m., Back 2 School BBQ BLAST 5-8 p.m.! • August 26th: Memory Monday from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. • August 28th: First Huddles from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. • August 30th: 5th Quarter at the Middle School

Women’s Bible Study

Coming this Fall - Watch for Dates!

Gideon: Your weakness. God's strength. Women's Bible study by

Priscilla Shirer. When we hear the name Gideon, most of us think

about his 300 soldiers or the fleece he laid out under the evening sky.

But Gideon's story is so much bigger than that - bigger than any one

man and his mark on Israel's history. Like everything else in the Bible, this is a story

about God and His people. His love for them, as well as His strength operating in spite

of their weakness - even through their weakness. And because God's people includes

you and me, Gideon's story is also about us - our lives, our doubts, our struggles, and our possibilities as

believers. From a state of fear, weakness, and insecurity, Gideon emerged as Israel's hero, filled with God's

presence and His passion for deliverance. This study will encourage you to recognize your weakness as the

key that the Lord gives you to unlock the full experience of His strength in your life. In what ways do you

feel insufficient? Those places create the greatest opportunity to experience the sufficiency of God. Instead

of ignoring, neglecting, or trying to escape your weaknesses, see them as the gifts that they are, given

specifically and strategically by God to unlock the door of God's strength.

“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task

the Lord Jesus has given me-the task of testifying the good news of God’s Grace.” - Acts 20:24

Our trip to Pavillon and Mare Rouge, Haiti was a rich blessing to all concerned. Many goals were met and many souls saved. The Medical team saw more precious folks this visit

than they have ever seen before, 1046. We did have enough OTCs (over the counter) meds., to give out but had to cut back on how many vitamins, tums, cold med, muscle rub, etc. A big THANK YOU to those of you that have worked so hard to provide supplies for

us to take, such as baby blankets, baby clothes (THANKS G.A.s) T-Shirts, Pillow Case dresses, beautiful little bags (to carry meds etc. in), and various hygiene items; the list just

goes on. I would be amiss if I didn’t mention all the prayers that have been sent up for us while we ministered to these precious people. I will give a report on John Robert’s house at the end of this article.

This week our young people and a few adults are ministering in Omaha, Nebraska, with the ABIDE Ministry. There will be challenges to be dealt with, but they

will be fine and see how glorious it is to serve our Father.

Kevin Colburn and Chuck Appleton will be leaving July 30th for Surry, British Columbia. They will be traveling with

Missouri Baptist Bikers Fellowship. Please keep them in prayer as they travel and share the TRUTH with those who need to hear it.

On August 14th we will be helping with the International Lunch at the BSU. At this point, we are thinking about serving baked potatoes etc. They are telling me

to expect around 200 students. It will be a great time of fellowship and sharing.

August 24th will be the WMU training for 2013. It will be held at First Baptist Church, Higginsville. We have two missionaries scheduled to speak along with age level training

sessions. We will have New Hope books and World Crafts available for purchase. This will be a great time of fellowship, learning and worship. If you are a leader in any of the areas,

please feel free to attend to enhance your knowledge and ability to present the Gospel.

The House We Are Building in Haiti John’s house in Haiti is under construction. The foundation is being built. The

work will continue as donations continue to come in. John Robert and his wife have a strong foundation in our Lord. The hill side where the house is being built is beautiful, but it is also rocky. The men have to break up the rock by hand using

a pick. The positive thing is that it has given some of the men a job which makes them feel as if they have a purpose. The people are not lazy they just don’t have the work or the tools to work with. I am always amazed to see what they can do with so little. They use the resources they have and make them work for them. We ask you

to pray for John’s health. He has been having trouble with his abdominal area. When we were there we gave him tums and vitamins. To all of you that have helped with

this project Thank You. It is a great thing you are providing for this man and his family, a home to call their own. We are sure our FATHER has a big smile when your names

are mentioned. It is our heartfelt desire to fulfill the Great Commission by telling others about the God who loves them. We are convinced that the only hope in this lost and

dying world is the hope we have when we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior.

Vacation Bible School Highlights

Thank you Grover Park for once again stepping up and supporting our

largest evangelistic effort geared to children. Although Vacation Bible

School's Colossal Coaster World has come and gone for another year, we

rejoice in the 8 decisions made that week and the many seeds that were

planted.!! Praise God!! There was great Bible Study with caring teachers,

songs, missions, crafts and recreation that all reinforced the daily themes.

We started with 68 kids and ended with 71. It takes many hands to put on

a week long VBS from teachers for 2 year olds to 5th grade, youth

helpers, missions, crafts & recreation leaders, registration and clerical help, photographers, time

keepers, runners, meal and snack preparers, worship leaders. Each day we had between 65 and 70

workers which is just amazing. And then there was all of the "parkies" who donated supplies and lifted

us up in prayer! During our Penny March we collected $612.84 which would purchase 61 Bibles for

Haiti. Jeannie and Odes Campbell graciously made up the difference so we will be able to purchase a

total of 100 Bibles in their native Haitian language!

Pictures are on Grover Park's Facebook and website for all to enjoy.

Remember our theme verse,

“For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power, love and sound judgment.” - 2 Timothy 1:7

“Stepping In, Lifting Up”

While one of our teachers has been taking a much-

deserved break, it has been a privilege and an honor to

see Linda Barnes step into our 4 year old class,

during second service. My favorite memory was

walking by her class and seeing all the kids sitting around the chalkboard and

Miss Linda leading them all in a special time of instruction. Way to go Miss

Linda! Not only did she step in, but she lifted up. Miss Linda lifted up our

entire program by reading Bible stories, providing for the children, and

faithfully praying for those God gave her to minister to. Like Miss Linda,

could you step into a class and lift up some of God’s precious young ones?

A Word From Our Sponsors

Prayer. It’s powerful stuff man. It’s dangerous stuff. When the satraps

wanted to get Daniel killed, they waited until he was praying to arrest

him. When the Pharisees wanted to get Jesus killed, they couldn’t get to

him, until he was alone—praying in the garden! Why is prayer such an

offense to satan? Because it is our ultimate refusal of him, and our

complete dependence upon Jesus. I am in special prayer for some

additional nursery and preschool workers. With some of our very best

taking an “off season” we are in need of individuals, just like you, who

would be willing to commit at least one service, once a month, to

ministering to our young ones. Would you be willing to love on some of

God’s precious ones, please let us know!

Sincerely,

Mark Wigginton

Sometimes doing the things God wants us to do can be tough! It can be

tough to be nice to people when they hurt us, it can be tough to obey our

parents when we are tired, and it can be tough to invite our friends to

church. This month we will be learning about a tough thing Jesus did,

because He loves us!

• August 4th—Peter Denies Jesus

• August 11th - “Let Him be crucified!”

• August 18th - “King of the Jews”

• August 25th - Jesus’ last words

Spidey Says... Hi there, Spidey here. Did you know that August 3rd is a very special

day, it’s National Mustard Day! What a noble holiday indeed. Need a

little something to spice up those delicious chocolate cakes—

mustard! Need something to revitalize that fruit cake—mustard!

Want a little extra kick with your deviled eggs—mustard! Short on

cash but need a tank of gas—mustard! It’s truly the answer to all of

life’s problems. Okay, not all of them, even mustard can’t take away

our sins, Jesus (who unfortunately did not taste the delicacy known

as mustard since it was invented in 1814) died for our sins on the cross. We can talk to God and say sorry

for hurting his feelings! And He loves us! And He forgives us! And that’s even better than mustard.

Fruit of the Month

This last month Mark was looking for someone being very faithful. At VBS,

Ryker Vaughn was a faithful friend. He always kept on trying. Hanging out

for much of the week with his good friend, Christian (a high school helper),

Ryker would keep on trying. Ryker kept on trying to use his words, and he

kept on trying to stay on task. It was not always easy, but being

faithful means not giving up, even when it’s tough. Way to go Ryker! This

month, Mark will be looking for someone with giant gentleness in their

lives. God is not a harsh and mean God, He says His desire is that

everyone would come to repentance and none perish. Sometimes when we are with our friends,

it can be tough to remember to be gentle. We can push them away, we can ignore them, we can

use grabbing hands; all of these things we can do that can hurt feelings. God loves it when we

are gentle friends. Gentle friends say please! Gentle friends say thank-

you! Gentle friends take turns! Gentle friends are the best kind of

friends. Are you a gentle friend? Let us make the commitment to be

gentle friends and to encourage those around us to be gentle as well,

because God is gentle with us—and we can be gentle too.

*Would you like some more toys for your class? Mark has all

the excess toys from our Preschool classes in his office.

Feel free to schedule a time to peruse our resources :)
