Fact Families Fact families are numbers that are like families- they are all related. When you know the answer to an addition question, you can make it into a subtraction question because addition and subtraction are inverse operations. They do the opposite of each other!
4+7=11 and 11-7=4 There are even more related facts!
7+4=11 and 11-4=7
Try putting the largest number, the ‘whole’ in the top window, and two numbers that are ‘part’ of the ‘whole’ in
the smaller windows. The numbers in the smaller windows, add up to make the
‘big’ number.
You can create 4 equations using those 3 related
numbers:
