1. The aim of the project

The goal of our project is to promote the rules of good manners and savoir-vivre among students in our school.

First of all we prepared and conducted the survey in classes I-III gimnazjum. The questionnaire included 26 questions related to some situations that are very worrying. It appeared that most students in our school don’t know simple rules how to behave properly. What’s more, we also checked that this problem concerns adults, too. During our winter holiday we did the street proble in Kielce and Starachowice and it appeared that lots of people don’t know the answers on simple questions we asked. It’s almost the some in a big city (Kielce) and in town (Starachowice). People generally don’t really know how to behave correctly at the table, in a restaurant, in a bus, etc. Every day we can see that our school friends make many mistakes for example: boys are rude to girls, they don’t know that girls should come in first to the class or to the bus. We would like to change this situation and teach people some good manners (Attachment No 3).

Most of our actions we prepared and conducted at school because we want to help our school friends to become well-mannered people in the future.

2. Actions

In December we organized the art competition in different age groups. The subject of art works was also connected with good manners in different situations. We announced the competition for the best poster and we prepared some prizes.

Secondly, we prepared two lessons in classes 3 and 4 in our primary school. The aim of these lessons was to teach children how to behave at the table. We prepared some desserts for them. They had to eat them and also observe each other how they behave while eating. Next we asked them if they noticed some bad manners. We also helped them to point something they didn’t notice. Pupils also had to properly lay the table, because we wanted to teach them some table manners.

Finally, we asked them how to dress properly to school, the church, the opera, the theatre and the restaurant, etc. We gave them the pictures presenting people dressed correctly and incorrectly to the situation. The students had to decide to choose the correct pictures.

The children were very happy and pleased after the lesson. They told as that they have learned a lot and that they want to have more lessons like that one (Attachment No1).

We also prepared lesson in nursery school. We dressed up as dwarfs and we presented children a fairy tale `The Snow White and the dwarfs`. We changed in a bit showing some bad manners because we wanted to know if the kids recognize them. After the fairy tale we asked children some questions andwe were surprised that they know a lot about got manners. We also taught them so called `Three magic words`: ‘Please’, ‘Sorry’ and ‘Thank you’ in English and a song with this words.

They were also very happy and played willingly.We gave them sweets as a prize.

We also prepared some Polish/English labels and captions and we put them on door. For example: The Staffroom, the library, the canteen, the cloakroom, etc. We decided to do that to learn students some English words (Attachment No2).

In January we prepared some posters in Polish and English presenting some general rules about good manners and we put them in our school canteen, in the library, the toilets, the cloakroom and the school bus.

We decided to do that because every day we can see some bad behaviors in this places a lot of students are very rude, they often use but language and swear words, the sometimes bully weak students too.

Our group also prepared some posters presenting rules how to behave in the shop and we put them in our local shop.

We are very happy with our project. We are sure that it was very helpful and worth doing.

We learned many useful things and we know more about savoir-vivre in different and the teacher were very happy and grateful that we prepared this project, especially in primary school.
