The name comes from a Swahili word for a council of wise or learned people, and is attended every Monday morning by two representatives from each form group, as well as our Ambassador team, members from the Senior Leadership Team of the academy, and myself. This round-table council is an opportunity for our students to raise any concerns which they may have about any aspect of the academy, be it the canteen, uniform, rules, rewards or sanctions. Early Transition

Outstanding TeachingThe most critical role of Victory is to provide quality teaching and learning. A clear understanding by teachers of how this can be achieved for our AG&T students is critical to their future success.

As part of Victory’s drive to be outstanding in all that we do we have begun to implement a rigorous programme of lesson observations and continuing professional development to support teachers to this end. A key element of this programme is ensuring that all students have a personalised learning experience in their lessons.

Appeal to studentsIn future editions I would like to include a section by AG&T students. I would like it to be written from the perspective of an AG&T student at Victory perhaps ‘A Day in the Life of a Victory AG&T student’ or ‘Dreams and Fears of an AG&T student’.

Following a successful pilot of our Year 6 Early Transition Programme last year, we are excited to be able to repeat this for any Year 6 students who are intending to join us at Ormiston Victory Academy in September 2015.The aim of this early transition is to allow students to become familiar with the academy buildings, to get to know their Form

about academy procedures, and begin to settle into secondary school life, reducing any potential anxieties which often build up over the summer holidays ahead of the usual September transition.Last year we held a separate Transition Day, then a week later students joined us for the last two and a half weeks of term. Thursday 12th February -

Tuesday 24th March -

Thursday 23rd April -

Victory Academy took a team of students to

competition against other schools in Norfolk ( including private schools) called ‘Top of the Bench’. The competition took place at ‘Briar Chemicals’ on Sweet Briar

enthusiastic team of scientists: Maddison Musset, Freddie Neil and Chelsea Hale who were selected to represent our academy.

The competition invloved the students working really closely solving unusual chemistry problems and under-taking

under time pressure. It also introduced them to some high quality laboratory resources and an industrial set up for conducting experiments.

This year’s competition involved an experiment looking at making a crystal garden. There was also an experiment looking at reactions which became both colder and hotter when mixing chemicals. Finally, there was an experiment investigating testing the hardness of water.

During the day there was also an interactive chemistry quiz in which our team of three managed to achieve a creditable sixth out of the eleven schools represented, not bad considering we were one member down.

Our students conducted themselves superbly and industrial chemists commented to me as to how they were impressed with their teamwork, enthusiasm and their willingness to attempt the challenging experiments. The students all enjoyed the day immensely and had learnt a great deal from the experience. They represented our academy extremely well and all of them made outstanding ambassadors.

The fun continued when our students joined the party, enjoying all that the fete

The celebrations wouldn’t have been complete without our extended family and continued well into the afternoon when we opened up our gates to Victory’s friends, families and local community, all of whom thoroughly enjoyed playing, dancing, laughing and celebrating with us. The sun shone beautifully and we could not have dreamt of a more perfect day.

Thursday 14th August was a day for celebration at the academy as students returned the best set of A-level results ever achieved. The average point score per student had increased for the third year in

in 2014. Even more impressively, nearly sixty percent of students left the academy with at least one grade A*/A, and just under half left with at least two. In fact, over forty percent of all entries resulted in the A* or A grade.

Students’ academic achievement in biology, chemistry and health & social care was outstanding. Good results were also obtained in English literature, geography, history, ICT and mathematics. Vocationally, students achieved well across the board; applied science, business studies, beauty, child care, travel & tourism and performing arts were all included under this measure.

More importantly were the successes of individual students. All students achieved the grades they needed to take the next step of their choice; with seventy percent of students moving on to university and the remaining thirty percent gaining places on apprenticeships or moving into full time employment.
