Șehrin Renk Skalasi 05

Sehrin renk skalasında ilk olarak Izmir’de kendi gözlemlerimle çektigim fotograflarla bir skala olusturmaktı. Ikinci adım olarak Izmir manzarası fotografı kullanarak Izmir’in renklerini kendi çıkardıgım görsel renk skalasından bulmak oldu.

In my project ‘Color Sheme of Izmir’, I first took some personal photos and made a colour guide system in form of a pantone catalogue. Then I took more general pictures of Izmir and choose the tones from my guide and placed them below the picture.

Izmir’deki önemli sorunlardan birisi sokaklarda çok sayıda sahipsiz kedinin bulunmasıdır. Bu durum da kedileri beslemek isteyen insanların farkında olmadan sokakları kirletmesine yol açıyor. Kedilere verilen yiyecekler ya plastik kase ile yada peçete ile direk sokaga konuluyor. Bu da plastik atıkların sokakta kalmasına hemde sokaklarda yag lekelerinin olusmasına yol acıyor.Bende ürettigim bu projemle bu soruna çözüm üretmeyi amaçladım. One of the important problems in Izmir is that there are lots of wild cats on the streets. There are luckely enough people who wants to feed the cats but they pollute the streets reluctantly. The food is usually given either in a plastic bowl or on a piece of napkin on the streets. This causes remaining of plastic waste on the streets for a long time and also leaving oily spots on them.In my project I tried to find a solution for this problem. I designed a mobile cat home. This project is a prototype,

when applied to real life it will be adapted for each street separately. The first floor of the prototype is designed for food and water supply and the upper floor is designed for resting. According to the numerical system, if the cats need food and water, it will be provided by the Izmir municipality.

Everybody meets therebut nobody eats there!Izmir’s well known meeting place is a point in front of the Sevinç Patisserie. It doesn’t matter if you are old or young. Everybody knows that place and waiting their friends to come there. But sometimes it takes so long time for waiting and here are some pictures of people waiting and meeting.

İzmir’de yolda yürüyen bayanlar erkeklerin kaba davranıșlarına maruz kalabiliyor. Kimi zaman bakıșlar, kimi zaman sözlerle rahatsız ediliyorlar. Halbuki İzmir gibi modern bir șehirde erkekler daha centilmen davranmalılar. Yapılan proje, onları bir bayana nasıl davranabilecekleri konusunda önerilerde bulunan bir broșür tasarımıdır.

In İzmir, woman have to deal with rude behavior from men; they shout at them and behave silly and make the woman mad. But İzmir is more modern then this. This project is about making a guide which shows men how to behave in a more gently way towards woman.

Sebebini bilmiyorum, belki bu eskiden gelen bir tasarımcı tembelliğidir, belki bazı șeyleri abartma ihtiyacımızın sonucudur, belki de giderek büyüyen bir imajın karșısına çıkma korkusudur. Sadece İzmir Saat Kulesi'nin așırı ilgi gördüğünü düșünüyorum. İzmir Türkiye'nin en modern ve en huzurlu ve eğlenceli șehiri / șehirlerinden biri olarak büyüyen șehrin içinde ufacık kalmıș bir saat kulesinden daha iyi bir sunumu hak ediyor.

Bir tasarım öğrencisi olarak durumdan vazife çıkartıp bu halin üzerine gitmeye çalıștım. Yerine koymak için önce devirmek gerekiyor. 100 küsür yıllık bu "devin" tașıdığı anlamların içini boșaltmak için kulenin yerine popüler, absürd ve zaman zaman bilinçli bir șekilde așırıya kaçan șeyler koydum. Bu kadar güçlübir imajın yerine yeni bir șey yaratabilmek için böylesi bir tavır takındım ki, yeni gelecek semboller için uygun ve adil bir ortam olușsun.

Tüm bunları Saat kulesi ile bir problemim olduğu için yapmadım. Her İzmirli gibi onu seviyorum fakat bazen bir yapı sadece yapıdır.

I don’t know why, maybe it’s just the laziness of designers, maybe it’s the result of our need to exaggerate things, or maybe it’s just the fear of facing an ever growing image. I just think that the Izmir Clock Tower draws too much attention. As one of the most modern and entertaining cities of Turkey, Izmir deserves a better presentation than a clock tower that remains tiny in the constantly developing city.

As a design student, I felt myself responsible and dealt with this situation. You must first get rid of something in order to replace it. I put absurd, popular and extreme things in place of the tower just to get rid of the meaning it carries. I took such a position in order to create a fair and proper environment for forthcoming symbols.

I didn’t do all this because I have a problem with the clock tower. I love it like every other İzmir citizen but sometimes a structure is just a structure.

This publication is the outcome of a one week workshop conducted by andrews:degen, a graphic

design studio based in Amsterdam. Students from the graphic design department of the Dokuz Eylűl University in Izmir, Turkey,

were exploring social issues and graphical communication elements in the city of Izmir. Ayșegul Tugan assisted us on this project.

Izmir is a large metropolis in the western extremity of Anatolia and the third most biggest city in Turkey with 2.8 million inhabitants. Students

developed interventions and campaigns referring to topics as traffic, neighborhoods, streelife, the cities’ symbols and other issues who play in the

city. Design thinking as a way to explore, research and support social change and improvement.
