Innovative software Upgrade launched at the ChamberSince 1996, WebLink® software has helped chambers of commerce and business associations use Internet technology to deliver added value and benefits to members. The Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce recently purchased this new software to better suit your needs. The software allows for easier membership, event and financial management, as wellas a referral tracking component.
The biggest change that you will notice is the look of the Chamber’s website. Two of the most utilized portions, the online membership directory and the events calendar, have undergone changes to make the registration process even easier for you.
The online membership directory is now searchable by business name, category and even by coupons/discounts. Each time the category listing is displayed, it rotates in fairness to all members. There are also a variety of options for members for their individual listings. Each listing currently includes the address, a pinpointed location on a Google map, phone number, fax number and web address. The general public is also able to submit a message directly to a member on that member’s individual page listing.
Every member will receive a username and password, which will allow for control of your information at any point in time. So, for example, if it’s after hours and you remember that you didn’t call in to change your e-mail address so that you receive the Chamber Connections e-blast regularly, you can log in and make that change when it’s convenient for you. This feature will also

The Front Desk feature, or referral tracking system, allows the Chamber staff to track referrals for your benefit. This component has the capability of creating an informative report, which will allow you to see how your membership is working directly for you. The report offers a look at the number of times someone viewed your online listing, clicked through to your website and found your location on the Google map. It even tracks the number of times the Chamber staff referred your company to potential clients.
The Chamber staff is excited to help you make the most of your membership investment with the new software. Be sure to watch for e-mail reminders on the many features and benefits of the software, in addition to updates in future editions of the Chamber Chat.

President’s Message
The Chamber would like to thank the following businesses for continuing their commitment to the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce and the Gettysburg/Adams County community:
Membership renewals
Adams Automotive Service Center Adams County Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. Artillery Ridge Enterprises Avenue Restaurant Brown’s Ranch, Inc. Conewago Valley School District Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Family First Health
Gettysburg Internal Medicine Associates, Inc. Groundwater Sciences Corporation J’s at the Village Land and Sea Services, LLC Links At Gettysburg, LLC Robin’s Nest Aviaries, Inc. Steve Rice, P.C. Smith & Company, CPA Super 8
Continuing in the same vein as last month, I would like to offer you updates on two more key attributes and goals of the Chamber’s Strategic Plan, which focuses on being a
strong community partner and resource center for local businesses. We will serve as a one-stop-shop for local businesses seeking information and resources. In order to fulfill that goal, one of the main objectives of the Marketing Council is a complete redesign of the Chamber’s website.
The new site will provide you with more information on the issues affecting your businesses or organizations. Chamber Teams are providing input to ensure well-rounded content from all aspects. Content will range from links to other organizations and government entities to more comprehensive information on Chamber programs and activities.
We continue to partner with local organizations, such as ACEDC,
Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau, Main Street Gettysburg, Freedom Transit, Commuter Services of South Central PA, government agencies and others to better utilize community resources while delivering quality programs and services. The Environmental Team has worked with HACC Gettysburg Campus and Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve to promote their Earth Day celebrations and activities.
The Chamber was happy to support Senator Alloway, ACEDC and PA CareerLink of Adams County in promoting the job fair held in May, which featured approximately 30 local businesses offering openings to 500 job seekers.
In an internal collaborative effort, the Agriculture and Environmental Teams worked together to develop programming for the February general membership breakfast—which filled the room to capacity—and recognize Gettysburg Eddie’s and the Gettysburg Foundation for their environmental stewardship efforts.
General membership breakfasts have developed into opportunities for the Chamber to promote various industries, such as agriculture and education, offer economic updates and provide a forum to recognize local businesses and individuals for their outstanding contributions to the Chamber and the community.
With the current road construction, transportation issues continue to be a focus of the Chamber. As you may have noticed in recent e-mail communications, we have been providing regular construction updates from the Gettysburg Borough. Additionally, the Chamber is represented on the Adams County Transportation Planning Organization and Susquehanna Regional Transportation Program to stay abreast of regional transportation concerns.
Watch for our new website later this year to stay abreast of all of the activity going on at the Chamber. Don’t just stay informed, get involved!

Community PartnersPositive Approach to ongoing road Construction in gettysburgby Carl Whitehill, Media Relations Manager
The Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau is urging the Adams County community to take a positive approach with our visitors regarding the ongoing road construction in Gettysburg. While the construction has certainly had an effect on
our lives, what’s most important is that we pass solutions along to visitors, rather than share in the complaining.
The CVB encourages all businesses and residents to offeralternative routes or suggest ways to avoid the road construction. Many of our businesses, as badly as it has affected
them, are keeping their heads held high and concentrating on helping their guests.
Because even local news makes its way around the world through the Internet, we must be careful not to make Gettysburg sound impossible to visit. All businesses are open during this construction and reachable, albeit sometimes in a round-about fashion.
Government officials know that there is no good time to do road construction, but we can at least appreciate that the work is being done ahead of what we expect to be a busy 2013 season.
One of the major goals of Main Street Gettysburg in operating the David Wills House(DWH) is to partner with the Gettysburg business community and increase promotional opportunities for everyone.
This summer and fall, the David Wills House is hosting an online Facebook contest. By
using social media tools, this museum hopes to increase itsfollowers on Facebook and Twitter, draw more visitors to themuseum and build awareness about the DWH while simultaneously strengthening community relations with local businesses.
This online competition and partnership with local businesses involves taking photographs of a President Lincoln figurine at various shops, restaurants and hotels each week and posting these photos to the DWH Facebook page. Participants must guess which local site Lincoln was photographed at each week. The first
person to guess correctly will receive a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer to the DWH. There will also be a weekly raffle that offers the opportunity for others to win a prize.
Since the day of the project’s creation, membership on the DWH Facebook page has increased significantly as have its weekly page views. As the DWH is tagging local businesses in our posts, we are reaching more than 10,000 fans from other pages. We hope that a project like “Where’s Abe?” will help to build an online community and ultimately bring together more people with an interest in historic locations, like the David Wills House, so they will visit Gettysburg.
We encourage everyone to visit our local businesses and enjoy high quality goods and services. If you are a business interested in becoming part of the “Where’s Abe?” project, please contact the David Wills House at [email protected] or call 717.337.2499.

Last year, a gentleman walked into the office of Preferred HealthStaff in Fairfield. He explained that his mother needed home care as soon as possible. The man left the office and was greeted at his mother’s
home within the hour by a member of staff, ready to begin home care services for his mother.
“That’s not the first time we’ve set up services for someone so quickly,” said Donna Moyer, one of the owners of Preferred HealthStaff. Moyer, a nurse and health care instructor, has empathy for those who are trying to find quality home care services for themselves or a loved one. “We recognize the unique physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each person. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of client services with courtesy, compassion and respect.”
Preferred HealthStaff is a Pennsylvania-licensed In-Home Care Provider that can provide assistance with things like eating, bathing and personal care. Caregivers can provide transportation, homemaker services, meal preparation, companionship, and respite services. They can offer medication reminders as well as many other services including health care staffing and child care services. Services are available for all ages. The management of the company can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “I believe that effective communication is a key factor in providing quality care,” said Bret Garretson, co-owner. He added, “We are not a franchise; we started from scratch, so that allows us to be more flexible—so we can adjust to fit the individual needs of the clients.”
Clients find no hidden fees or surcharges in their bills, and they have the comfort of knowing that someone will be with them whenever they want or need it.
Preferred HealthStaff upholds a very high standard which involves an extensive screening process for its caregivers. Quality, proficiency, attitude and personality are considerations for employment as well as education, training, experience and recommendations. “We take great pride in the quality of our caregivers,” said Moyer.
Preferred HealthStaff provides a free in-home assessment in Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and York counties. Preferred HealthStaff also matches caregivers with clients based on the caregiver’s skills, personality and travel distance. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and there are no minimum hours required. Adjustments can be made to the days and times at no charge to the client.
During the caregiver’s first visit to the client’s home, someone from Preferred HealthStaff’s management team will orient the caregiver to the client and the client’s individual needs and requests.
“We don’t send anyone in alone for the initial visit,” Moyer said. “This creates an increased level of comfort for the client and the caregiver.” Supervisors will also visit the home after care begins to ensure quality of care and satisfaction for the client. Preferred HealthStaff’s goal is to improve lives, one client at a time.
Preferred HealthStaff is a member of the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce, the Pennsylvania Home Care Association and the Better Business Bureau. They are located at 201 E. Main St., P.O. Box 165, Fairfield. Hours are 9am- 5pm, Monday through Friday, and by appointment any other time, including weekends. Someone is on-call at all times. Adams County Farmers’ Markets
Adams County may be best known for Gettysburg, one of the most popular small towns in America. But just beyond the battlefields of 1863 are rolling hills of abundant fruit farms and orchards. Even though we are tops in Pennsylvania for apples and peaches, there’s more growing here than you may imagine.
Our markets feature fresh fruits and produce, flowers, herbs, artisanal cheeses, alpaca yarns, farm eggs, pumpkins, homemade soaps, wine, bakery items, jams, jellies, kiwi berries and more!
