A04 Before you begin, make sure the site where you intend to set up and use your AX100i/AX100SCi storage system has the following: Make sure you received the following system components: • AX100i systems include an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in its own packaging. • AX100i/AX100SCi systems include a rail kit box with adjustable slide rails and hardware for mounting the storage system in a standard 19” NEMA cabinet. • AX100i/AX100SCi systems include a storage-system accessory box with power cables, a serial cable you might need for future service, adapter cables, documentation and software CDs, and warranty and reference cards. • CAT 6, CAT 5E, or CAT 5 LAN cables for iSCSI/1-Gbit connections (CAT 6 recommended). • Standard ac power, from an independent source or a cabinet/rack power distribution unit. • An active network with available LAN cables and connections. Install the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that ships with an AX100i. (The UPS is a required component of AX100i systems only.) Refer to your UPS documentation for instructions on installing a UPS in the cabinet. Make sure you attach the UPS batteries and power cord as instructed. Install the storage system in a cabinet: From the front of your cabinet, insert the rail alignment pins into the rear channels as shown. Pull each adjustable rail forward, and attach it to the inside of the front channel in the two center holes. Remove the front bezel (if attached); then remove the four screws that are secured with washers and nuts to the black plastic latch brackets. Discard the nuts and washers. Use the latch bracket screws to secure the storage system; then install the front bezel. The first time you connect the storage system to an active UPS or other ac power source, it will immediately begin powerup: BIOS startup, POST, and operating system boot. Power LEDs on the front and rear of the storage system light and remain on while power is applied. (Refer to your UPS and/or switch documentation for instructions on how to power them up.) Disk activity LEDs on the front of the storage system will light intermittently as the disks spin up and disk I/O begins. The amber System Fault LED on the front will also light while the system performs hardware powerup tests. It may take 5-6 minutes for the SP Boot/Fault LED(s) on the rear of the system to stop flashing, indicating that powerup is complete. If the amber System Fault LED on the front of the AX100i/AX100SCi is lit after the system has completed powerup, it indicates a fault condition somewhere in the storage system. An amber LED specific to a power supply, SP, or disk indicates a fault condition on that component. Getting Started — AX100i/AX100SCi Insert the PowerPath CD in the CD-ROM drive and follow the instructions on the screen. If the CD does not autoplay, double-click the platform-specific .exe icon in the appropriate directory on the CD. The AX100i/AX100SCi storage system supports Microsoft Windows® 2000 or Windows Server™ 2003 servers with: Follow the directions that came with your NIC/HBA to Install the card and its appropriate driver(s). Install any required updates, such as service packs, hot fixes, or patches, and reboot the server when the installation is complete. • A QLogic QLA 4010 iSCSI host bus adapter (HBA) with the latest EMC-supported BIOS and driver, and SANsurfer® software. OR • Any standard 10/100 or 1-Gbit Network Interface Card (NIC) and Microsoft iSCSI Initiator software. (The AX100i/AX100SCi requires 1-Gbit connectivity; if you use a 10/100 NIC, you must connect to the storage system from a 1-Gbit switch.) On servers that use network interface cards for iSCSI storage access, install the latest supported version of Microsoft iSCSI Initiator software. A list of supported versions is in the EMC CLARiiON AX100 Support Matrix located at http://www.emc.com/interoperability/index.jsp. Install PowerPath® software on each server you plan to connect to the AX100i/AX100SCi, as follows: To install additional disks in your AX100-Series storage system, refer to the “Upgrade” section of your documentation CD or AX100 support website. Unpack the system as shown on the shipping carton. Configure network settings for each iSCSI NIC or HBA you will use for data input/output with the storage system. Use the values you recorded in section of your Administration Worksheet. • For standard NICs, configure network parameters through Windows. From the list in the Network Connections window (available from Start > Settings on most servers), select the LAN card you need to configure. Then select Properties> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties to specify the IP address for the network interface card. • For QLogic HBAs, configure the settings with SANsurfer software. With your network administrator, fill out the Administration Worksheet that accompanied the planning guide. Slide the storage system into the rails from the front of the cabinet. OR Install QLogic SANsurfer on servers with a QLA 4010. Connect ac power. Always secure the power cord at the connector with the retention bail (strain relief). The bail prevents the power cord from pulling out of the connection. AX100i storage systems (with two power supplies): Be sure to connect both power supplies, each to a different power source/circuit. DO NOT connect more than one power supply to a UPS. Connect the serial port marked (+ -) on an AX100i to the uninterruptible power supply. This connection allows Navisphere® Express software to monitor the UPS. Be sure to use the unique serial cable that accompanied your UPS; a standard null-modem or other service serial cable may look identical but will not work. • If the provided UPS serial cable has two DB9 connectors, you must attach one of the RJ45-DB9 adapter cables from the AX100-Series accessory box before you can connect the storage system to the UPS. • If the UPS serial cable has one DB9 and one RJ45 connector, you can connect the single cable directly between the UPS and the AX100i. Plan your configuration with your network administrator. Refer to Planning Your AX100-Series iSCSI Storage-System Configuration, that shipped with your storage system. Determine whether you want to • set up a dedicated iSCSI LAN for the storage system and its iSCSI initiators (a recommended, simple configuration) OR • include the storage system in a shared configuration that requires more network expertise and potentially complex Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) security. The server (or workstation) you will use for initializing the AX100i/AX100SCi must have an active LAN connection on the same subnet as the storage-system 10/100 management port(s). Install the Navisphere Server Utility from the AX-Series Server Support CD on each server connected (either directly or through a switch) to the AX100i/AX100SCi. Follow the online instructions to install the utility, and reboot your server when finished. When installing PowerPath, you must install any updates, patches, and hot fixes available under “Register to download software” on the AX100 support website. The documentation CD you received with your AX100-Series storage system contains detailed information about planning, installing, and operating the system. For the latest detailed information about your system and its components, including supported components and configurations, and planning, installing, and troubleshooting, visit the AX100 support website specified in the support documentation that shipped with your storage system. If your environment will include an active iSNS server, you will need the installation instructions for a Windows iSCSI network connection from the AX100 support website. The website also includes installation instructions for other operating systems and configurations not covered in this Getting Started guide. If your system requires Microsoft MPIO-based failover, install PowerPath iSCSI. Before you begin, make sure the site where you intend to set up and use your AX100i/AX100SCi storage system has the following:

Setting up and enabling an encrypted authentication mechanism called CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol) can protect iSCSI systems on a sharedlocal area network from unauthorized users. When CHAP is enabled, the storage systemallows iSCSI initiators with the proper identification to log in, but denies access to unidentified initiators.

Click Start > Programs > EMC > Navisphere > Navisphere Storage System InitializationStart the Navisphere Storage System Initialization Utility.

Follow the instructions on the screen to use the Navisphere Storage System Initialization Utility to set networkparameters for each storage system management (10/100) port identified in section of the AdministrationWorksheet, and to define a user account for the AX100i/AX100SCi.

After the AX100i/AX100SCi is powered up for the first time, use the Navisphere Storage System InitializationUtility on the AX-Series Server Support CD to initialize it.

Follow the online instructions to install the Navisphere Storage System Initialization Utility on the management station.

The AX100i/AX100SCi will reboot automatically after initialization, a process that may take several minutes to complete.

Insert the CD into a workstation connected to the same network subnet as the 10/100 management LANport(s) on the AX100i/AX100SCi.

The utility displays the serial number for each storage system it finds on the network subnet. Select the serialnumber you recorded in section on the Administration Worksheet (from Step 3) for your AX100i/AX100SCi.

Start Navisphere Express: a. Open an Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape.b. In the browser navigation window, enter the management port IP address of either SP in the storage system (from Step 8 and section on the Administration Worksheet).c. When Navisphere Express opens, log in with the username and password you specified with the Initialization Utility (Step 8).

Use Navisphere Express to configure the storage system iSCSI-1000 front-end (data) ports:set the IP address, subnet, and gateway for each data port on your AX100i/AX100SCi system.You recorded these parameters in section of the Administration Worksheet. To reach the configuration page in Navisphere Express, select the Details link from the Attention Required page displayed at login, or go to the iSCSI page. To proceed, clickthe link for each iSCSI front-end port.

After configuring your iSCSI front-end ports, select View all Port Settings.

Verify connectivity.• Select a data port to test.• Click Test.• Enter the host iSCSI port’s IP address (from section in your Administration Worksheet).• Ping the NIC or HBA port; Request Timed Out indicates a faulty configuration; refer to the “Troubleshooting” section on the AX100 support website to resolve the problem before you continue.

Use the instructions on the Server Utility screen to update the server-to-SP connections.

System Management Network Connection: Connect the 10/100 LAN port for each SP (one in an AX100SCi, two in an AX100i) to the network on which you will manage the storage system with Navisphere® Express.For dual-SP systems, both connections must be on the same subnet.

Click Start > Programs > EMC > Navisphere > Navisphere Server Utility (AX)

Start Navisphere Express. a. Open an Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape.b. In the browser navigation window, enter the IP address of either SP in the storage system (from Step 8 and section on the Administration Worksheet).c. When Navisphere Express opens, log in with the username and password you specified with the Initialization Utility (Step 8). Use the online help to configure storage on the AX100i/AX100SCi as follows:a. Create a hot spare.b. Create disk pools and virtual disks.c. Assign virtual disks to a server.d. Configure the Event Notification page (System > Settings > Event Notification) to send you e-mail notification when the storage system encounters a problem.

b. Follow your operating system's instructions to prepare the virtual disks to receive data by formatting and then adding drive letters to the disks. (For more details, refer to the Navisphere Express online help and the installation instructions on the documentation CD or the AX100 support website.)c. Rerun the Navisphere Server Utility (described in Step 12) and follow the screen instructions to update connections; this allows the server to recognize disk partitions and any other changes in file system information.

Prepare the server’s operating system to recognize the new storage.a. Reboot your server.

Refer to the Navisphere Express online help by selecting Managing your storage environment > Managing iSCSI storage systems > Setting CHAP securityor the installation instructions on the AX100 support website to• Set up initiator CHAP security, mutual CHAP security, or both.• Use Microsoft iSCSI Initiator (iSCSI NIC) or QLogic SANsurfer® software to set up CHAP security on the server.• Use Navisphere Express to enable Initiator Authentication on the storage system.

Set up CHAP security (optional)

If you elect to use CHAP security (Step 14), you should set up and enable CHAP before you begin processing data.

Start the Navisphere Server Utility on each server attached to the storage system.

You must install and run the Navisphere Server Utility on every serverthat connects to the AX100i/AX100SCi storage system.

Be sure to connect your management network to the 10/100 LAN port(s) on the storage system.The serial and UPS ports use the same connectortype but are not LAN ports. You cannot manage the storage system from the iSCSI-1000 front-end data ports.

Connect the storage system directly to a server:Connect each front-end (data) port, labeled iSCSI-1000, to an iSCSI HBAor a 1-Gbit network interface card (NIC) in the server.

For highest availability with a multiple-HBA/NIC server, connect the data port on SP A to one HBA/NIC and the data port on SP B to another HBA/NIC.

Connect the storage system to a switch:The AX100i/AX100SCi 1-Gbit front-end (data) port MUST connect to a 1-Gbit port on a switch or router, even if your serveruses a 10/100 network interface card (NIC) as an iSCSI initiator.

We recommend CAT 6 LAN cables.

If your server is using a network interface card (NIC) for iSCSI traffic, open the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator. If your server is using a QLogic host bus adapter (iSCSI HBA), start the QLogic SANsurfer® utility.For each iSCSI front-end data port (target) to which the NIC or HBA has access:

Repeat for each additional connection to your AX100i/AX100SCi.

Microsoft iSCSI Initiator: Select Discovery. Under Target Portals, click Add, and then enter the iSCSI dataport IP address. Click the Advanced option, then select Microsoft iSCSI Initiator from the Local Adapterpulldown. Select the desired NIC from the Source IP pulldown, then click OK. Click OK again in the Add Target Portal dialog box.

Add a target portal. Use the IP address of the 1-Gbit iSCSI data port from Section on the Administration Worksheet.

Log On to each port to which you can connect (depending on your configuration, you might be able to see ports to which you cannot connect).

Do not configure CHAP security at this time; you can implement CHAP later, in Step 14.

The data port and the server port to which it connects must be on the same subnet.

If the Attention Required page indicates a hardware error, refer to the “Troubleshooting” section on the AX100 support website to resolve the problem before you continue.

If your data ports connect directly to a server, or if every server on the LAN to which they are connected requires equal access to the AX100i/AX100SCi, you do not need to set up CHAP security.

• Be sure to check Automatically restore this connection when the system reboots.• DO NOT check Enable multi-path even if multiple paths are present.• Click the Advanced option, then select Microsoft iSCSI Initiator from the Local Adapter pulldown. Select the NIC from the Source IP pulldown, and click OK. Click OK again in the Log On to Target dialog box.

SANsurfer: Select Target Settings then the + symbol. Follow the online instructions.

Microsoft iSCSI Initiator: From the iSCSI Initiator Properties window, select Targets. Select the target (storage processor iSCSI) port, then click Log On.

SANsurfer: Perform a discovery, and then• Enable timestamps.• Set the execution throttle to 256.• Uncheck immediate data.
