and said, "You too were with Jesus the Galilean." [70] But he denied it before

out to the gateway, another servant-girl saw him and said to those who were there,
"This man was with Jesus of Nazareth." …”
40
Matthew 26:69-75
“…[72] And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man." [73] A little later the bystanders came up and said to

running together; …”

46
Peter’s Failures and Recovery
•Denial of Christ•Allowed himself to be influenced by Jews & became a poor example to Barnabas–Rebuked by Paul
•Galatians 2:11-14
47
Galatians 2:11-14
“But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood
condemned. [12] For prior to the coming of certain men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, fearing the party of the circumcision. [13] The rest
of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, …”
48
Galatians 2:11-14
“… with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. [14] But
when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the
gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, "If you, being a Jew, live like the
Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like
Jews?”

What Can We Learn?
•Look at our mistakes …Learn from them …
AND MOVE ON!
51
Matthew 18:8-9
“If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it
is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into the eternal fire. [9] "If
your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it from you. It is better for you to
enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be cast into the fiery hell.”
52
What Can We Learn?
•What ways can I do more so that my life can be more fulfilling?
•Then Forget about them!–Philippians 3:7-11
53
Philippians 3:7-11
“But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. [8] More than that, I count
all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus
my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so
that I may gain Christ, …”
54
Philippians 3:7-11
“…[9] and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which
comes from God on the basis of faith, [10] that I may know Him and the power of His
resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
[11] in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.”
55
Philippians 3:12
“Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I
press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by
Christ Jesus.”
56
Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us, [2] fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and
perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the
shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
57
“press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward
call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14
