CHARLESTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

Challenge: Protecting critical infrastructures and preventing security breaches on both land and water. Solution: Charleston PD selected Getac’s B300 and V200. The Getac devices are mounted and secured inside cruisers and vessels connected to in-vehicle infrared video systems paired with an advanced automated license plate recognition (ALPR) IRSA software.

Benefit: The B300 fully rugged notebook and V200 rugged convertible notebook systems were selected for their ability to perform in extreme environments and consistently deliver the speed and performance required by Charleston’s law enforcement and maritime control. Getac computers connect to the police central database alerting the authorities in-time to thwart criminal activity.

Challenge: Microsoft wanted to improve the effectiveness and streamline the tasks of its security officers operating their fleet of security vehicles.Solution: To simplify vehicle-patrol related tasks, Microsoft implemented an automatic license plate recognition solution based on Microsoft and IRSA software running on sunlight readable rugged Getac notebooks with 4G LTE connectivity linking them to their cloud database. Getac also provided docking stations to secure the computers in the vehicles. Benefit: By using Getac computers to automate their process, Microsoft increased productivity and security. They also gained new analysis and investigative capabilities and reduced their security costs for a quick return on investment.

Challenge: Officers could not remove their aging fix-mounted computers quickly. The permanently mounted computers were failing and hindering the officers the ability to write reports and police patrol. Challenge: Inability of officers to covertly track Illegal criminals trafficking drugs through Mexican border in the nighttime. Arizonian scorching hot desert temperatures reaches upwards of 100˚F (40˚C) and its dusty environment. Patrol officers’ computers often could not survive these extreme environmental conditions. Challenge: The Lima Police needed to find a solution to quickly identify criminals and monitor their police force. Solution: The S400 connects to three security video cameras which feeds to the control room. The video recordings are recorded into a NVR. It is paired with an automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS)Benefit: These patrol cars armed with the S400, automated finger printing system, in-car video solution TETRA radio connection are now intelligent patrol cars. COUNTERTERRORIST SPECIAL FORCES

Challenge: Terrorists and extremists are planting bombs and mines in civilian areas. There are

many unexploded shells in war-torn areas.

Solution: Counterterrorist special forces use Getac A790 to remotely operate bomb disposal tactical

robots to investigate life-threating situations and disarm bombs and improvised explosive devices

(IEDs).

BORDER SECURITY STATE GUARD, US

Challenge: Physical searches of vehicles can take up to eight hours, and a similar time to rebuild the vehicle. Officers spend a long time searching vehicles, causing long waits at border stations. Solution: Getac’s A/M series combined with custom x-ray scanning systems allows security and customs personnel to check inside the most inaccessible parts of a vehicle without taking it apart. Getac computers are installed with sophisticated image processing software.

Benefit: Customs officers and security personnel detect threat items and contraband including ammunition, weapons, IEDs, drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol and stop them from entering the country. Challenge: Collection of data in the outdoors for ski jumpers’ analysis is difficult due to constant extreme variations in temperature, humidity, vibration and intensely bright sunlight.

MOTO LEOPARD EXPEDITION- KHAN TENGRI

Challenge: The round-trip distance between Ireland and Kazakhstan is nearly 16,000 kilometers. The

adventurous and brave motorist needed stable communication systems to stay connected in the harsh

environments of the Tian Shan mountain range, particularly the challenging 7,010-meter Khan Tengri,

which is absent of roads, water and fuel.

Solution: The PS236 fully rugged handheld has an Ingress Protection certification of “67”, meaning the

device can withstand dust and water from harsh environments.

MOTO LEOPARD EXPEDITION, NANGA PARBAT, HIMALAYAS

Challenge: Nanga Parbat is the 9th highest mountain on Earth with a summit elevation of 8,126 meters (26,660 ft), which has never been climbed in winter. Two experienced mountaineers, Marek and Tomek, faced the unprecedented challenge of conquering its height in a challenging climate. They needed a device that can withstand these extreme temperatures while giving them to tools to survive.

NORTH POLE EXPEDITION, NORTH POLE

Challenge: A ground-breaking scientific expedition to research the structure of the sea ice in the Arctic Ocean needed a device to collect data – in some of the most extreme environments. To understand how the algae live in such extreme conditions, the scientists needed to study the microscopic plants that sit inside the bottom of sea ice, having adapted to an extremely dark environment in temperatures below freezing and log in data into a device that would survive the extreme temperatures. CHARLIE PITCHER, ATLANTIC OCEAN

Challenge: A British adventurer set out to break the world record for rowing solo across the Atlantic OceanSolution: Relying on little more than a six meter rowboat and a Getac rugged laptop. Temperatures soared to 40ºC and bad weather caused the boat to overturn more than once, scattering equipment everywhere -but the robust B300 continued to operate efficiently. TDI-PANAMERICANA ENDURANCE CHALLENGE

Challenge: Rainer, the head of the Pan-Americana Endurance Challenge Team needed a device to break the world record driving from Argentina to Alaska on the longest and most dangerous road in the world. They also needed to use off-line mapping software and access the internet in order to navigate and document their epic journey.Solution: Using the V100 and docking station, they were able to install off-line maps and go online.

Benefit: With the offline maps, they were able to safely navigate areas that standard maps did not cover. The V100’s sunlight readable screen enabled them to stay on track. With the use of Getac’s docking station they linked to an high-grade external antenna on top of the vehicle to send live-streaming videos and whereabouts to their family and friends.
